Hey all- I'm new to the board (and looking to start riding with you all soon when I'm not busy w/ roller derby). Anyways, I'm writing a information piece on fixed gear bikes/riders for my friends zine, and I want a few different people to talk to for an story I am penning. I would love all feedback, so this can be a new or experienced rider. We can do this over email/phone/in person (I'm in Rosemead), whathave you. I'm flexible, but it needs to be early next week. Please email me at nicole@killshaman.com.
Cheers- Nicole

how much and how big?
After seeing almost everyone using those up in (why do I not stop talking about/referring to) PDX, that good 'ole inferiority complex has come into play.

So....basically that article is saying that the only reason you should ever do ANYTHING is:
1) If it's a completely original idea, it'd be trite to copy a good idea from someone else, no matter how practical it may be.
2) If you were an early adopter of said idea. After a while they run out of membership cards, and if you're not a card carrier--well, you lack all credibility.
Other observations:
1) The more people who participate in the same activity (in this case it's riding a fixed gear bicycle or single speed), the less "cool" said activity is. Here there is a negative correlation between the number of participants, and the "cool" factor. I don't know....I'm not sold, I'd have to speak with this guy to make sure he got a truly random sample.
2) The author of this article is better than the rest of us, because he has a blog on the internet.

Kyber, according to that, I've been a hipster for years, I've been a "reefer" smoking pothead jazz fan for years....

One gear = Cool
Pushing on your crank = Awesome
Thus if you ride a fixie you use your Awesome to push yourself around with your Cool. There is also a lot to do with Stun Guns and bad knees...
Awesome + Cool = Rad

whats a hipster?........ LOL...READ ON:
Definition of a Hipster:
Hipster - One who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool. (Note: it is no longer recommended that one use the term "cool"; a Hipster would instead say "deck.") The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream. A Hipster ideally possesses no more than 2% body fat.<-------LOL.
