Good luck, when I see that perfect tandem, I'll let you know, I've developed an eye for them, since I owned a couple already. Always on the lookout.

It won't be cheap, but get your hands on this. Think of how evenly matched the tandem drag races will be. If it is smaller then mine, I will trade you, mind you, we crashed mine the other night.
This is exactly like mine, it is stock, how it came off the show room floor, same tires and seats. Shifters, derailers, bars and wheel set
everything is the same, down to the reflector

The girls at CICLE may have a tandem they want to get rid of. I'm not sure they grown to love the bike or not. It's a loooooooooog tandem recumbent.

Bought New in 2003. Clean and well maintained. Model RT 1000, Fairly low milage. Shimano 105 Drive Train (27 Spd, Mavic 519 Tandem rims with Shimano Tandem hubs. Suspension Seat Post for Stoker. Size S/XL.
A lillte to large for me and I'm 5'10 1/2. Better for 6'+. Worked well for my wife, she is 5'5 1/2. Mike 714-225-5081

For a while I was seeing all kinds of lovely Schwinn Paramount tandems for cheap. I just couldn't justify buying one, where the hell would I even put it?

Was also thinking about creating a tandem co-op, where he all go in together on buying tandems and then pay a monthly membership to pay for a storage place.

just got back from riding with pops right now, he was able to do about 3 miles. The situation with Uncle Nick is instructions on when to stop, when to start getting off and on. I can only ride with him when there is nobody on the streets or in the residential streets. Traffic lights create havoc for the ride.

-That there tandem-recumbent has all the equipment needed for a fast ride.
26"/700c rear-wheel, UnderSeatSteering, lower-to-the-ground.
This thing is definitely what I need for my "Swift Assault Cycle".
Plenty of room up front for the spud-gun, more than enough elbow-room for dual-mount, auto-cocker equipped, Spyder Xtra's.
Perfect platform for my daily needs.

There's a very nice Santana tandem at the American Way Thrift Store on Magnolia. It's overpriced as marked at $1500 so you'd have to bargain them down. It is in really good shape.

I need a Tandem partner for a few rides that my usual partner can't make it to. Anyone who wants to give it a shot is welcome. Good way to see if you like it or not. Its much easier riding with someone you have practiced with but much more interesting with a new person. Its a single speed huffy tandem. Not fancy.

I did see a tandem on CL in OC. The guy said $225 firm and it was like new and kept in a garage. Not sure about the size, I know it wasn't a tall size.

The Kuwahara Tandem does look clean, but that looks like a drum brake to me. Also if I was to ride a touring tandem, I would want to have a fail safe brake on the front rather than the back.

manny's (low rider) bike shop on lincoln b/w rose and venice has a yellow schwinn 5 speed tandem...looked to be all original for $300.
they also have a blue schwinn tandem frame for $125 and assorted vintage schwinn tandems anywhere from $450-$800 or so. all colors. the higher priced bikes have the drum brakes (i think)...something to do with the rims being very expensive.

I have a schwinn deluxe twinn, that's the one with the 5spd drum brake. Brown original paint, every bolt and part is the original piece. It's never been taken apart. I have a correct period large basket on the front. Needs to be cleaned up. I'll take $400 for it, nothing less.

This tandem just came up on CL in OC. Sounds good. The guy said it just needs tires. He said the brakes ain't that hot, but I bet it's cause they're old.
santana tandem 80's 26" wheels - $400 (huntington beach)
we have a santana tandem in the garage and will let the first bike nerd
with 400.bucks take it away....yes it is from the late 80's and is
a 26" wheel bike. the frame is steel but light steel.

So I picked up a Tandem from a Rida. 1980 Schwinn 10 speed. it's got the drum brake in the back. anyone know any experts on working on the drum brake? Bikerowave?

Chances are it just needs to be cleaned. There isn't that many pieces in a drum brake, so it shouldn't be too hard to rebuild.

How would you transport that thing? Like you do every bike. RIDE IT!
Make it a ride. The Wolfpack tandem five. You and four other wolfpackers get a ride up to Goleta. You each put in $50 for the bike, some money for gas and lunch for the person who drives the vehicle.
You get the bike. Fix up anything that needs to be done on it and you bomb back to LA at speeds of 27 -55mph with the driver behind you as support.
Spoke card idea: the picture of the 5 seater on the front and a map of Goleta to Tangs on the back. with a little picture of a wolf growling on the corner of the card somewhere.
