i want to thank all the people who helped me on yesterdays ride especially david and i want to apologize for being a burden on the ride and for being the cause of a fellow bikers loss, the bike that is, well heres my excuse or story whatever you wantto call it, i bought two bottles of soco so that i would share with the riders it was never my intent to drink that much but nobody wanted any with the exception of two or three guys, andwell my drunken logic told me you cant let all this booze go to waste and i started to consume like crazy and next thing i know its 11:30 and im on my living room floor i guess i kind of blacked out and as of david thank you and ill start a fundraiser so you can get a new bike, maybe we can do a fundraiser ride?
reply
Well you get major props for at least posting this elijah. But why should we do a fund raiser for your dumb actions? To reinforce this behavior? Man up and take responsibility for your actions. Work something out for the person that helped you out.
Just my two cents.

We SHOULD do a fundraiser for the accidental and fucked up theft of a fellow ridazz bike that was jacked...who took a drunker than fuck rider and got him home safely. His bike was locked...
maybe the next M.R. ride, everyone can pitch in a buck in exchange for their spoke card. M.R. rides usually get around 200 - 300 + ridazz.
maybe Sins and Sprockets or C.R.A.N.K. mob can do the same....

I'm with barleye...we don't want to encourage fernando's behavior, but I think we DEFINITELY want to take care of david for taking care of a rida when they needed it...

i am getting some money together for david, so i am manning up but the idea of a fundraiser on a ride is just that an idea and i agree do not support this kind of behavior i assure you it ismy last time getting hammered on a ride

Hey Fernando, first of all, way to man up and post this.
Second of all, I hope you realize there's a good chance David kept you from getting seriously hurt or killed last night. No exaggeration- if he hadn't kept you off your bike, you probably wouldn't be posting today.
You owe him more than an apology and a thanks. I think your health is worth the cost of his bike that was stolen because of YOU.
If you want to fund raise, good luck with that, but I hope you realize the burden rests on YOU, and the right thing to do is to find a way to replace his bike.

The guy apologized for his actions, we don't need a public lynching.
He seems genuinely sincere in his apology. Everyone makes mistakes.
Even
you.

It's not a public lynching, it's a public encouragement for Fernando to do the right thing.
How he takes things from here will determine whether or not a lynching is necessary or not.
I know he's apologizing, and I'm sure David appreciates it. It's a show of character on Fernando's part to post up here already, and that's great. Really.
Sadly though, no matter how sincere, an apology alone won't get David his bike back. Selfless action is what happened when his bike got stolen, and selfless action is what will help get it back.

yeah nobody ever gets so drunk around here that other people have to take care of them.
Remember Santacon07 User1? I didn't think you did.
I give great thanks right now for Fuzzbeast and Kyber taking care of me in Vegas. Then I insult Fuzzbeast while he was taking care of me. Great drunk moment.
The Ninja ride, where I was so out of control that I could shift right and broke my chain. The guys in the van who carried a few master links and even a spare chain, fixed my chain in the Sepulveda Dam.
THANK YOU
We all have had our moments, its part of the fun.

I think he is manning up and taking on the burden of responsibility. He sincerely apologized and I'm sure if he had the total money to buy him a new bike, he probably would. He's taking responsibility for the situation by not only saying I'm sorry but by knowing this situation is outside of his means to accomplish on his own.
I'll throw down 10 on it. Good karma anyways.

If I understand it right David cabled his own bike and u-locked Fernando's.

That's fucked.
He could have done it the other way.
What bike do you have Fernando?
I'm not going to tell Fernando what he should or shouldn't do.
I want to help David cause he helped another rida and it's like he helped me.
I'll paypal David 10 bucks to thelimitedcircleispure@gmail.com
That's less than what I spent on beer on the last ride.
People can give what they can afford.

thats fucked up situation all around. I know most that go on these rides drink, a lot. we are all adults and know our limits, but sometimes we deny or forget and cross the line. it happens to the best. a rider helped another ride when he saw that happen and like Marino said its like he helped everyone of us out and think/hope that most would do the same.
Dude knows he fucked up, so any further negative comments is pointless. $10 to help two/all ridazz out is ok with me.

But don't be surprised if "fernando the drunk" is a moniker that follows you around. All in good fun, of course.

You know, fundraising to buy a new bike is nice and all ... but have you considered building one up at the Kitchen, Bikerowave, or Oven?
You could do it for a lot less money, and since you're unemployed (that was the ride theme, right?), you've got a lot of free time to do the work.
If you can scrape together $150 you can build up an awesome ride. If you can hustle up a bike in okay condition, you'll spend even less.
Buying a cake from the store is nice - but baking a cake for someone means a lot more.

how about this fundraiser idea,
DAVID VS DRUNKGOLIATH (aka Fernando)
The Drunken Race
Race from the liquor store where David's bike was stolen to Fernando's living room. All viewers pay $5.49 (the price of the smallest bottle of Southern Comfort) and if they choose the winner, they get a Limited Edition Drunken Goliath Race spoke card. All $$ goes to David's bike. The race will of course be fixed in Fernando's favor so that David has reason to fistfight him at the after-party in Fernando's living room.
No lynching necessary!

Fernando - if you dont agree to this race, David may think your apology isnt sincere. Most ridazz would accept such a race offer within minutes.

I don't have a problem contributing to a fund to get David another bike.
Elijah manned up, but let's face it....we have all done this....he who is without sin cast the first stone...etc. We have all drank too much and endangered ourselves or others.
So in penance for all the times I drank too much. I will contribute to a David bike fund.
I also hope others will come forward and do the same.

Are you saying you'd like to race in lieu of Fernando, or in addition to him, assuming he responds? If its the latter, I need a couple months to come up with a better title for the race.

Its a fuzzy line between being fun drunk and too drunk. A line that is hard to distinguish when you are riding it. Which is exactly the reason we need people to step up and help a drunk AND why we need repentant drunks to help raise money for a stolen bike.
While I wasn't there yesterday I greatly support the idea of a fund raiser.
No it is NOT Elijiah's fault specifically that the bike got stolen. It was just something happened along the way. Mistakes were made. And some opportunistic asshole took advantage.
If every ridaa here who has gotten over-the-line drunk just put in 1/2 of an average nights drink money $3-$10 I figure we'd raise at least $2000 right away. But that's
Fuck the self-rightousness and finger-pointing by fellow bikeriding drunkards ... i love you all but why not just offer up some help or zip it.
That said ... if you need help with the fund raiser ... give me a buzz.

I've finally read through the thread and I like the idea of a race against Fernando. Sounds fun. (And potentiallly embarassing considering how slow I ride)
Anyhow I've already started a project fixie at the Bikerowave. I found a frame that looks to be my size, and though it needs a lot of work (and a dremel) it looks to be an fun project for the next couple of weeks if it takes off.

@ Marino & others: To be honest with you, I dont really ride anymore. I sold my bike to get some money and I dont miss it one bit. As of late, Ive been driving more and it's turned out ot be really positive. I have a car that gets great gas mileage and I think thats the more common sense approach in making a statement in regards to the gas/oil debate.
I miss a lot of you...hell, most of you, but life is different for me and I dont really consider myself part of the bike culture now.
