Whatsup everyone..
Could only find the thread for last years LA Tour and was wondering if you are going to this years ride. There's only information on last years ride, so I would like to know if anyone is going this year and what their thoughts are on the '07 ride. Let me know if we could get a MR team going.

Last year there was a bunch of baloney where people were making a bunch of crappy arguments as to why you should pay the fee, and heated arguments ensued. Let's avoid that this year, yeah? Everybody crash it, OK?
K thx bye.

Whatever argument you wanna make about registering vs. not is fine with me, I can almost see both sides from here, but the real turn-off to registering is having to go to that feckin' "Quaity of Shit Expo" at the Convention Center to pick up your bib and bag of crap that you don't want anyway.
Yeah, so I made a fake bib and crashed it last year.

There's no reason to debate this - if you want to raise money AND ride the event, ride for an organization like Team Parkinson, MS Society (not Microsoft, multiple sclerosis), etc.
If you're not into doing charity, crash the ride. No need to discuss any further.

Just so everybody is clear on this: NOBODY is checking for bibs, and in a crowd of approximately 10,928,481,293,147,182 there's nothing they could do anyway.
Make funny phony (phony funny) bibs if you want, of course. I'm just saying, for the sake of anybody who didn't know, that there's no reason to sweat it.
PC02.9.08 - 11:21 pm

PC is undoubtedly correct. Making a fake bib was something I did for amusement - a little dadaist art project - rather than an actual attempt to fool anybody.
mr rollers02.9.08 - 11:44 pm
reply
PC is right on. What are they going to do, tackle you because you don't have a number?
The only two places where they may have any control are the start and finish lines. Its easy to join in a block or two beyond the start line, and turn off (if necessary) just before they channel the finishers to the refreshment tables at the end.
Creative Thing02.9.08 - 11:47 pm
reply
And they won't try anything like this with a bike.
This happened at the 1967 Boston marathon.
Women were not allowed to run back then, and this woman got a number by entering using only her first initial.
There's a word for people like her and us. Race organizers call us "pirates".
Arrrgh.
Yeah, she finished the race.

THE LOS ANGELOPES
should be at USC around 2:30am more or less.
We should meet on the Southwest corner of the campus like last year. That worked out well. We can just go where the wind takes us. Man, the group photo is classic..

Sexy and I crashed the ride two years ago, with no fake bibs, and with large political signs and flags designed to attract attention. We had no problems. It's a super-mega-tera-clusterfuck from start to finish--but especially at the start--and nobody is in any position to stop you from doing whatever the hell you want to do.

LA CACOPHONY MARATHON REST STOP- RECAP
It was short, but sweet. The runners went through well over 4 dozen
donuts and almost a 30 case of Tecate in 2 hours.
This was my first time. At first, I didn't quite understand the
concept, but after seeing the expressions on the runner's faces as we dangled Glazed Donuts and Frosty Beer in front of them, it all became perfectly clear how this is an annual tradition.
We were interviewed by some reporter of the LA Times, and later we
were interrupted by some rookie cops for handing out closed container beers to adults only... Overall, I would say it turned out well.
I enjoyed hanging PC who showed and participated, there were 8 others as well!
