PAYPAL< SOUNDS AND BIG BIKE DAN
Thread started by Limeyfly at 02.18.08 - 11:10 pm

Hey fellow midnightridazz.

I have collected some cash for the reapir of big bike dan's music system. I received $100 from overthehill (thankyou John) and I will personally double what ever the greatest amount is so there's $200 right now from me!!! I'm hoping it won't cost more than $200 to fix (brand new that speaker systen is around $1500 believe it or not!!!
On another note I want to improve things by either adding another trailer connected by wireless signal or making Dan's stereo and more powerful. Either way we can have a great system.

Also I am going to contribute a KHS bike to pull the trailer with (you may have seen me riding it on the valentine's ride)

Anyway you can send cash via paypall to hmurlowski@yahoo.com at paypal. I will post what we have collected and where we (collectively) have decided to go with this-suggestions are very wellcome!!!
I've been riding with MR for around 8 months now and can honestly say it has been an absolute blast. I hope it continues to grow and change the landscape of Los ANgeles!!!

Duckets sent.

maybe anything left over can go to David to reimburse for the redline stolen when he was helping get the drunk dude home on the unemployment ride. he had to buy a bike last week for transportation. set him back $500 or so.

just a thought..

Harry
so you prefer cash rather than Paypal? I consider it a privelage and a duty to contribute to this as Ive commented numerous times on how the BBD music trailer changes/adds to the rides on the infinite levels mannnnnn!

@Kyber
We have enough to fix the sound system and modifications to it. It should be Limeyfly proof now!!!

I wanted to get another supplemental system so any cash would go toward that.

I also bought a bike specifically to pull a trailer. If we get a PA simialr to BBD's speaker they are over $1500 brand new so would look into previously enjoyed versions!!! We should have a collective idea of where we want to go with all of that.....

1 idea - another similarly powerful speaker with a wireless connect to the other that way we could 'spread' the music over a greater distance...just thoughts...

I've been talking to Thinkpeace a little about increasing the amps of the antenna system so the signal strength for the FM wireless system will be stronger. I also have some $$ earmarked for him.

How about an additional antenna?

I don't particularly care for radio transmission.

Not everybody likes the same music. If we have multiple sound systems we can have multiple playlists. Diversity. Just like at music festivals there are several stages going at once. If the two systems are too close together the less powerful should turn off to prevent cacophony (no offense to cacophony society members).

True, not everyone likes every type of music, however, for an upcoming ride i am working on, the theme is based on one particular group and thus having everything tied together makes sense.

I like the idea of having a second trailer providing a sub-woofer.

The trailer and PA we have provides decent highs and midrange, it lacks at giving a good low. This is by design I think. Since it takes alot of power to deliver the lows.

If we do go with a second sound system, I think building up a system based on the bob tail trailer would be a good way to go. Use parts made for a car system.

What we need to do is find someone that works in the car stereo business. We could get good recommendations and possibly get a great price on the parts.

We could either go with Li-ion batteries and charger, or go with the standard sealed lead acid batteries. If we go with the sla batteries, we can design it so we have to swap out the batteries sometime during the night. This way one person is not dragging around a ton of batteries. The load could be shared. Someone else could carry the batteries that are not being used.

For a variety of reasons, having two decent full-spectrum sound systems playing the same content is much better than having two systems playing different content or two systems playing the same content with one of them devoted to sub-bass.

The reason subwoofers are so efficient at relatively low power levels in cars and (to a lesser extent) your living room is something called cabin gain. In a reasonably well-sealed, enclosed space, sound waves below a certain frequency (i.e., above a certain wavelength) build up and get a substantial boost in SPL. A trailer-mounted bike sound system, on the other hand, has to reproduce sound into the open air. To get any kind of meaningful sub-bass response out of such a system would likely require a bigger and more power-hungry setup than you would really want to deal with night after night. On top of that, to make it sound good you would have to keep the two trailers as close together as possible, because otherwise people are either going to hear nothing but boom (if they're close to the sub trailer) or some annoyingly out-of-phase music (if they're closer to the mid/treble trailer, because the highs will hit their ears before the lows do). Whereas with two full-range systems playing the same content, if they drift apart, so much the better because it's spreading the music out wider--and the full-range sound tends to mask any phase problems between the two systems.

As far as "diversity" is concerned...meh. We're all grown-ups and presumably we can handle listening to music every now and then that we ourselves might not have chosen. Having one playlist helps to tie the theme together, and it helps with, like, cohesiveness and shit.

Are we suppose to know what SPL is?

The idea I had on a subwoofer is to aim it down, then you don't have to fill the air around. Granted this is an idea. I don't have a reference of someone that has done it. The rest sounds find to me. Still like building a system from a bob tail.

Not sure what you mean by this but common design of Sub Woofers (at least in Home Stereo use) is to aim the woofer down towards the floor. Because of the sub frequencies and long wavelengths, they are omni-directional and don't need to be aimed at the listener unlike higher freq mids and tweeters.

You do if you want anybody to hear it.

It doesn't matter which way you aim the driver; what matters is that you don't have the cabin effect boosting frequencies under 60-80 Hz (which are the ones that a subwoofer is good for in the first place), as you would in a small enclosed space. To get sub-bass to carry for a half a block or more, at a level commensurate with the mids and highs, would require massive wattage.

Me -
Wow, ISHK!

It does matter which way you aim the driver PC. If it's aimed down, it has far less air to displace. And why can't you build a cabinet for the driver? If you take a look at the "sound system" thread, there's one video showing a long tube being pulled. Looks like that's another possibility to bring the bass.

It still has to "displace" the air between the driver and the listener's ear.
