Hey Guys,
On the way home from the ride tonight Tiffany and a few others were struck by a SUV. Tiffany was the only one to sustain any injuries. She is ok and was able to walk herself into the ambulance. She is at Cedars rite now. Not sure if she will need to stay the night, but she is there now.
Hopefully this wont discourage her from getting on a bike again.
Reason for run down? We saw them rob the liquor store we just finished buying beer from. Went around the block, then came back for the witnesses.
Hope you get well Tiffany!

Hey, I was a part of the small group that rolled up on the accident scene. Sorry to hear about the girl, thankfully she looked okay.
I'm sure she'll read this thread, so: "Hey strange girl who I don't know, please get well soon, glad your tumble wasn't worse."
Please update on her status when possible.

I hope she feels better soon. At least she has a very interesting story to tell. Its a much cooler story than ' uh, i drank too much and crashed on my bike.' Did they catch the robbers/driver? That's pretty fucked up.
Please don't let this discourage you from riding again.

Midnight Ridazz. The patron saint of liquor stores.
We boost their sales to the stratosphere and catch the bad guys who try to rob them.
We should give out (sell???) stickers. "This store is monitored by Midnight Ridazz".
Once we start selling protection to stores then we can be a real gang. Yay!!! Oh wait... OGs don't say "Yay!!!"...

Damn, we need to catch those bastards who ran down a rider!
This is intolerable.
Robbing a liquor store is one thing....running down one of our riders is unacceptable!
Is there a description of the SUV?
I suppose no one was able to get a license plate number.
It was good ride last night. A small but devoted group.
Too bad this kind of sh@t has to happen.

Hey uhhh.
Maybe we can ask our LAPD buddies if they can get us some info on the vehicle.
Make sure you all write down as much as you remember about the SUV make, model, color, etc as well as the driver's description. Time will distort your memories of the incident over time so get it NOW while it's still fresh.

But once they catch the other two fuckers I will sure be testifying. It was nice to be able to identify the fuck face who they left behind. They got one. They will get the rest.

UPDATE ON DOWNED RIDA--
Just spoke to Tiffany on the phone at Cedars. She sounds in good spirits. They got her on hyrdocodone (Vicodin)....
Here is the extend of her injuries: She has a scrapped knee, her left palm is torn up. Her nose is broken. She has four stitches in her forehead ( she fell on her left side of her face) and sustained a hairline fracture in her elbow.
From what she can remember; as they were riding away from the scene, she heard the screeching SUV peal out out into the street. Some ridazzs yelled something, possibly a warning, she isn't sure. Then the SUV hit her back tire. She flew over the handle bars and hit the pavement.
She won't be riding for a while. One of the ridazz has her bike, and I would like to get it to the Bikerowave or Bicycle Kitchen to get it fixed while she recuperates.
She appreciates all the ridazzs who came to her aid. Especially the ones who visited her in the ER early this morning. The Midnight Ridazz is like an extended family, and for that she is grateful.

Hey everyone its tiff! Love my blackberry and I'm doing well and happy to read your comments. Getting hit was the scariest thing ever and I hope no one else was too hurt. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to be around at that moment. Thank you so much. As you can see in the attached pic, I look like hell and my face is so swollen but I might get the nose job I've always wanted haha. I'm glad none of us were killed because it was a dangerous place to be at that moment. Ill def ride in the future but first ill buy a helmet! Wasn't wearing one last night -not cool when you are sliding head first into the asphalt. Well I'm at cedars for another day or two til I feel good to go. Thanks again everyone and be safe out there!!

From my conversation with Tiff today, she said they pulled up to the liquor store and two ridazz went in first. The observed an armed (yes that would be a gun) robbery in progress. The ran out and told the ridazz to leave immediately, for their own safety. As the ridazz were pedaling out of the parking lot, a couple of them placed calls to 911 and LAPD.
LAPD responded within minutes apparently apprehending one of the perpetrators. There are two perps at large, whom I believe were in the SUV.
Though it was an unfortunate situation for Tiffany, it seems the Midnight Ridazz arrival at this liquor store was instrumental in the capture of one of the three suspects.

You got her bike. This was her first ride with the Midnight Ridazz.
Only her back wheel is bent, and we should keep it for evidence, but it shouldn't cost too much to find a replacement rear rim at Bikerowave. I will contribute, plus I am sure other riders will be willing to put in something. Let's get it fixed for her so it will be ready to ride when she's healed.

I was the rida in the store who was getting a water when I noticed there was a guy holding a customer up at the register (with an automatic to his back). I played it off like I didn't even see him–I don't even want to know how he would have reacted had he seen that I noticed he had a gun. I just pretended like I was really dead-set on getting the perfect brand of water until he took the customer back to the back room, then I slipped out the front door and told the rest of the crew.
Unfortunately for Tiffany worse things were to come when the SUV trying to pick up their gun-toting buddy saw us getting away and tried to mow us down. I didn't actually see the hit & run happen, cause I was
I'm pretty sure just about everyone filed reports, I know I gave about 3 different cops a complete run-down from my vantage point inside the store.
What an introduction! (this was my first ride) I will definitely be making it out for future rides though, besides the ride home it was perhaps one of the most entertaining activities I've participated in since moving out here!

every time someone is convicted of a crime, part of their sentence is, (here in California) they are forced to pay restitution (even if it is consensual crime). That restitution fund is available to people who have been victimized of a crime in California. I don't know exactly how it works, but if you needed money for your hospital bill, damages to your bicycle, this is a fund that should be available to you. Check with the District Attorney's office to see how it works, (that is, if you need it).

I am technically an Eastsider (east of the 405..where is the dividing line anyway?) but you Westsiders are some of the best people to ride with, especially when times get tough and dangerous. So I don't subscribe to the "Eastside verus Westside" crap.

Hey sexy yeah my first initial with my last name sound just like the word tomato haha. That, and I turn red like a tomato whenever I exercize so it fits I guess.
About my bike, its a Raleigh hybrid comfort bike (womens)that I got from bikeology on Lincoln but I don't know anything else.
So I woke up this morning and my left eye is practically swollen shut, my right shoulder is making it so I can barely move (I think it was the tetanus shot they have me), my left arm is of course in a sling and my left knee gives sharp pains if I move it wrong. Its the second day after and the pain is in full effect but I just took a vicodin-my only friend right now.
But enough complaining, this will all be over with time and ill be running around like before. I'm surprised I didn't break my left leg or knee cap.
Hope you all are having a great weekend. See you soon hopefully =)

I spoke to Carlos at Bikeology on Lincoln. He said a replacement rear wheel (alloy rim, stainless steel spokes) for the Venture bike is $45.
Helen's and iMartin sell comparable rims for about the same price.
We can do this.
That particular bike has cassettes and it can be removed from the old wheel and put on the new one with ease.
We can fix this bike and have it road ready before her stitches come out.
I'm in and I will be taking up a collection at the LA Critical Mass this Friday (since she was going to ride in it but now must recuperate for a few weeks).

Cool User, thanks for the pledge.
If they put the new rim on and transfer the cassettes, then true the wheel at Bikeology, that's another $20.
So bring your money, and it can be $2 or $5 anything you can contribute , to the LA Critical Mass. Also you can use Paypal to contribute, send to barleye@hotmail.com.
Any extra money will go to Harry (Limeyfly) to fix the sound system trailer that blasts out the tunes while we ride through the streets.

I thought it was $45 for a built up wheel. skd, let's talk to some of the experts to see what they may have or can do for us, yes? We should be able to get something less than $100 that would be better than she has now. We could upgrade both wheels so they are matching too. Take a look at this for example,
http://www.bicyclewheelwarehouse.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=20
yes I know she doesn't have disc, and the cassette won't work. I was just give you an idea as to what's out there. We have some time to fix this, so don't you think it's best to do a little shopping around and upgrade both wheels for pretty much what you want to do with one wheel? And your option is not even upgrading anything too.
User102.24.08 - 5:12 pm
reply
I called them back to see how much it would cost to mount it, transfer the cassettes and true the wheel, they told me an extra $20. So $45 for the wheel itself, and extra $20 to mount and true the wheel. Still way under a $100.
We could mount it and transfer the cassettes ourselves and save the $20. But I am not confident on my truing skills. If anyone can do that
we can save the extra $20.
I am open to suggestions and we don't have to rush to do this. She won't be riding for at least a two or three weeks.
