Howdy folks! This is my first post here.
I've never ridden on any rides with any of you (that I know of), but would like to.
Also, I haven't ridden my bike in at least four months. If you would be so kind, please give me some motivation! Thanks in advance, nice bike people! :)

Oh, and if any of you know of any Wednesday or Monday night rides, can you let me know? Thanks again. I appreciate any help you guys can offer. :)

Also, look in the column to your right and you'll see all upcoming rides from the MR crowd, which is generally a significant percentage of all rides happening in the core of LA.

Well Hello Mr. Goat
Looks like if you can muster up the inspiration to come on this site, sign in post up a post, well I think you are already inspired to come out and ride.
Make sure that bike is in good workin order before you come out.
Tires are full of air, and you got no leaks in the tubes.
Seats adjusted to fit you properly.
Chain and other parts that require it are lube up.
Spare tube and patch kit, in case you get a flat.
Party favors for yourself and other you might want to share with.
Look forward to meeting you out on the streets.

As a fellow nooblet, I advise you to ignore posts in all caps. Or, reply in all caps with something along the lines of: "NO U."

WEDNESDAY (every other):
DEN DINNER!! It's a great way to meet riders for the first time, without actually needing a bike!
We Eat and Drink and blabber about everything.
Check out the den dinner thread for more details!

As someone who has been participating in this site for quite a while, I approve of and endorse this advice.
eddieboy:
"DO WE REALLY WANT A RIDER..."
1. Who is "we"? I fink you're speakin for yourself.
2. Don't be an asshole to new people for no good reason. It makes "us" shitty.

Oh, and @BillyGoat: There are a lot of different rides: some are all-night crazy fests, some are chilled out bike rides, some are fast, some are slow. Try out some different groups, hopefully you'll find one that you like.

Thanks so much, all of you friendly people! And Eddie, I hope to shake your hand and punch you in the cock when I meet you... look out! Actually, just kidding about the punch. I'm sure we'll get along just fine. :)
I was able to cruise with the Polar Rollers in Long Beach last wednesday. Planning to do so again tomorrow night. Friendly group. I think I'll hang out at the bar afterwards for at least a pint this time.
After more exploring and stuff, I think I've figured my way around this site, and won't be bugging y'all with too many obvious questions from now on.
Love you all (as brothers and sisters... I'm happily married) and hope to ride with you in person sometime soon, if I haven't already.
Oh, and by the way, I'm far from a cycling noob. After racing mountain bikes in high school (sport class... woo hoo! actually, I almost bumped up to Expert for a whilie, but couldn't keep up. Those guys were super fast), I rode recreationally throughout college. Mostly MTB, but I thoroughly enjoyed my road group rides when I did them. When I started working I kind of stopped riding for a while, so I'm a bit out of shape, but I'm gradually coming back to it, and these groups are definitely going to help.
Thanks again, and see you all soon.

Start with the party rides for getting in shape. It won't work, of course, since you'll drink 10 calories for every 1 you burn, but you'll have so much fun, you won't care any more.
Santa Monica Critical Mass would be a good place to start on friday or Sins and Sprockets on saturday night. Definitely don't miss the mother of all rides a week from friday.

Hope you enjoy your newfound experiences with this loose-knit, confederation of ours.
Alot of y'all seem to be coming in off of either CSU, or UC turf.
Nothing wrong with that though.
It drives me to get back into the full swing of going to school again,
someday when I get around to it.
Anywho, study hard and ride easily!!!
