Riding bikes, drinking beers, making noise, celebrating the lives of fallen riders is pretty RAD if you ask me.
The whole silence thing isn't for me, but I can respect it.
Every Midnight Ridazz is a celebration, whether it's for fallen riders (Safety Rides 1 & 2 and the Glo Ride) or for geeky things we like (movie & other themes).
@Borf, Googly was being unnecessarily critical of the Ride of Silence, Kyper was being sarcastic to Googly, and I was playing sc_gonad contrary to the both of them.
Now I'm being FLUFFER with the names on this reply.
I did this "ride of silence" a couple of years ago. I think bikepunk and that girl we would be hangin with from time to time, (I remember her face but not her name) organized it.
With all due respect, It was the most painful, unenjoyable ride I ever did.
Don't let me stop you though.
We actually rode around Hollywood and nobody made a peep. It was an experience alright.
I did it last year.
Meeting Randy (who was rocking a 10 ton double suspension ATB), and some other nice folks made it well worth it.
Riding in silence under strict controls is definitely not MR style.
Last years ride from Hollywood was uncomfortably slow but I am glad I did it.
We ended at Santa Monica/ Wilshire and payed our respects to Ilia Pankin. That sort of put the whole thing in perspective.
Afterwards we celebrated properly with food and beer in Little Ethiopia

As far as Pasadena goes doing laps around the Rose Bowl?
Who the hell is going to see that? Am I missing something?
Yeah, I was at the one in Brentwood in 2005 and then we organized one for 2006 that met at the LA Critical Mass starting point. What sucked was that one of our close friends, Morgan 'Goat' Beeby was hit seriously the week before and in the hospital still at the time of the ride. Made it super personal for a lot of us.
Riding silently in a large group got the same sort of questioning looks and stares that riding with music and screaming does. It was very odd. We just handed people flyers when they asked about it. I think it put us, and them, out of our comfort zones, which is a healthy thing to do sometimes.
But riding around the rosebowl sounds pretty dumb. They'll probably drive there too.
