I probably will be tired from the Marathon and CM this weekend, but next month for sure.

do it, we need more rides. Especially valley rides. Just don't expect that you will get lots of people to attend. Many people say small rides are better, but I bag to differ.
My only hesitation on that night, is the fight in Santa Monica over their CM. I due think that needs everybody attention. After it is over, I'm all game for a valley ride, that night.

Well, seeing as how Monday nights are an "off-night" for me, this is extremely do-able in my book.
Seems like everytime my work-schedule/job gets changed, I'm shuffled over to a different crew.
Anywho, is there going to be any, crazy stops planned for this sort of operation?
In light of last Sunday's Asylum Investigation, it would be cool if more places like that could be dug up.
A bar-crawl and haunted-structure romp in one.

Yeah... no kidding on rides in Burbank. Burbank PD are a little on the tough side. We had run ins on San Fernando Critical Mass when we visited the 7-11/Quickie Mart. Also... the Cruz with Us' "The Big Ass Ride"...

Either way... I'm planning to go... so see you there...

UPDATED!!! GNARZILLA! party ride of DOOM! in the vally
03.3.08
monday march 3rd
Meet at 8:30 START TIME: 9:30
As you can see... shiet says 9:30. Maybe you guys meant 9:30 in the morning. Nope... I saw you a bunch of you guys at the CVS parking lot around the black car. I park and set up my shizznitz and you guys are gone... freaking 9:10pm. Really... Not a good way to start a ride... especially posting this on the MR website. (I'm laying the sarcasm really thick if you didn't notice.)
To those that made it (people from the westside came to ride with you guys) FUCKIN GREAT RIDIE!! Good times. Realfotography2... get your shiet together... I'm starting to wonder why your crap got deleted.

I wish I could see that video but work doesn't like Youtube.
The thing is when I parked I was just a little off from their sight. So technically they didn't see me unload. Some bush or CVS sign was blocking me. I could hear them playing music from their car and I heard them yell at a rider passing by like, "We're over here!"
But crap... literally a couple minutes after 9am... vanish!!
You shoul've came out jchungerford... we had a great ride.

Come on, you wait until 5 or 10 minutes AFTER your posted ride time if you're wondering if more people are coming.
I think I'll have my poker ride start on Friday instead of Saturday and when anyone shows up in the middle of nowhere there will be a sign saying "the ride was yesterday, jokes on you!"

Please say there's more to your story....
barleye03.4.08 - 3:06 pm

ok, enough with the recriminations already. Judging by post counts and such, this ride was organized by someone who maybe doesn't have a whole lot of experience with the way such group rides tend to be. Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned. Do we really want to alienate people who were motivated enough to come on the site and start up a ride?
For future reference, know that almost no rides leave at the posted start time In fact, I know of at least one ride that posts a deliberately false start time just to try to get everyone there early enough so that they can leave approximately at the time the organizers originally intended. Even leaving right on time is going to throw some people, as folks who are only going to be 5-10 minutes late are likely to not turn around under the expectation that they almost certainly won't wind up missing the ride. If you are really hot on leaving right at 9:30pm, post a 9:10-9:15pm departure time, at the latest, and then wait until 9:30pm just to be sure.

Because that would be a good thing.

I've been to 2 whole MR rides so far. I ride an old BMX bike. I'm hardly "high and mighty".

Also, there IS something you can do about your friend's graffiti. Buy some paint and go clean that shit up, or make him do it. That shit is LAME, and your friend or anyone in your crew should know better.

Assume headlights are cops. Turn off all your blinkies and roll it and bring those flashlights. 4/6 cell maglites would be good... you can use it as a weapon.

Everyone could sneak into the skatepark in Hollenbeck Park (SE corner) instead. The likelihood of being scared and/or getting hurt may be equal to the original intentions.

I spent last night at a film shoot (working) and lo and behold, a few people there were complaining about the group of cyclists that came and caused problems. The two I talked to about it are cyclists, one has joined Midnight Ridazz a few times in the past, and both were upset about the image of cyclists that this ride presented (childish jerks). They agreed that it's one thing to run red lights and make some noise, it's another thing to break into private property, damage that property, enter unsafe areas, and then be smart asses towards the cops and people working there. I realize you guys weren't going to plan this ride and then not follow through, but it's depressing to hear about the additional bad behavior. I like engaging in a certain amount of bad behavior as much as anyone but it's interesting to hear the perspective from the "other side" and it sounds things went to far on this ride. It bums me out.

Katie, though childish as it may have been, it was really a good time. I see you said damage property.... ummmm.... NOOOO! Nothing was defaced or damaged. Just people having fun running down halls. The breaking in... well, yes guilty, but we found access that did not involve DAMAGE (up the front escape ladder, which gave us access to the roof, then an open door on the side escape ladder. When confronted by security we complied 100 percent. If a sole loser gave shit to the guard, it wasnt with us nor are we going to back the dick up! Oh by the way, the movie looked interesting, what's it called?

The larger groups going on urbex tend to be more, easily noticed than, say that hospital in Downey y'all are probably already aware of.
If anything, if you really want to partake in the thrill of exploring an abandoned structure like that, turn the volume down and use light filters.
But, if it wasn't your intention to pull an amateur, investigative session, then nevermind.
Another cool thing about there being fewer people on these urbex trips is the "scare-factor" is quite higher.
Nonetheless, y'all seem like a different group, and that's what counts.
The more variety in MR-units, the better.

If bad word is getting around, that sucks for lots of reasons. For one thing, it makes film crews more hostile when future rides run into them. And in LA, when a building is both awesome and abandoned, it gets used for film shoots, so Gnarzilla
will run into Hollywood* again if it keeps exploring LAās abandoned awesomeness.
Iām kind of surprised at the amount of drama this seems to have spurred. I didn't see everything, but all the interactions I saw between crew and bikers were pretty subdued, and there was definitely no trashing of the place. Katie, did the crewfolk you talked to say what happened that was such a big deal?
The film crew dudes I spoke to on the roof gave the impression that it was not a problem for us to be there, so long as we stayed away from the area where the filming was going on. I donāt think they saw the crowd of 30+ (40+?) bikers on the other side of the building, though. When you have a large group, the majority of whom came out to party, your chances of staying unobtrusive and quiet are pretty much zero. Iām guessing that security would have kicked us out whether or not there was any impact on the shoot, though, because thatās what security does.
If Gnarzilla does another ride to the eastside, it would be a good idea to have someone keep an eye on Linda Vista, Sybil Brand, and maybe the Lincoln Heights Jail. Hopefully at least
one of those wonāt be overrun with film crew on the day of the ride, so bikers can explore and party in peace.

Some facts..I am pretty objective since and only went along on the ride cause it sounded interesting and I am only commenting on the actual time the ride was at the Hospital. I wont comment on how these guys were running fucken late at start of ride!!!
The guys throwing the ride were pretty young and they were out to have a good time.
Have you been to a MR or Crank Mob Ride? Its the bomb.
Moving on. You need to know the place in order to understand that the shoot was way on the other side of the building.
I saw no one braking in since the fence was open which led into a fire escape that led to a flat roof. Once on top of the roof, I did see some bad apples climbing and breaking some terracotta shingles. It was more of a misjudgment on their part and not purposely done.
Once on top of the roof, you were able to see the shoot on other side of roof, 5 floors down. Security was on the roof and the group was quiet just taking it in. In fact , they hushed each other.
Security on roof did not mind at all. In fact they were telling us that they had been there all day and were going to be there till Wed. There was a mutual unspoken understanding between group and security that he was not messing with us since we were not messing with them.
Afterwards, group proceeded down the fire escape to leave and there was a open door which led to a hallway which lead to some rooms (remember, nowhere near the shoot). We did wonder and no one was having issues.
Security finally did told us we had to go outside to which we did. They even let us go out the long way.
As I was literately 3 feet out the door this guy walks in duper hyper with a big attitudeā You guys got to go, I already called police. You better leave if you donāt want to go to jail"
We were polite and just said cool and walked out. we hung outside and took pictures. No police showed. We even had one of the crewmembers take some pics for us.
Katie, like you said āIts nice to hear it perspective from other sideā I agree. But I donāt think you followed that principle in this case, before your posted. You could have asked what happened before you got ābummed outā
These guys ā(childish jerks)ā as you called them deserve some credit.
Anyone that knows me on here can vouch as to how I carry myself and would not step up for them unless warranted.

I've been working pretty much non-stop the last 24 hours so please forgive misspellings or an incoherent post.
My understanding is that the cops were called - not the teenage security guards who I already hold a grudge against because they were suspicious of me when I came in to work and then gave me bad directions to the freeway when I left. I was told that the owner of the building was present, and "he doesn't mess around," and that he called the cops right away. I'm guessing he was the guy that someone felt was aggressive. I was told there was one rider in particular who was being a dick towards the cops. I was told that one crew member kept pleading with the group to just "be cool and leave" but nobody would, preferring instead to wait for the cops, and thus, a situation to arise. Obviously I wasn't there and this is all just second-hand information, but it sucked to talk to the crew about this incident because the people I was talking to were avid cyclists and they were bummed that people would behave this way. And for those curious, the shoot was just a low-budget short.

User 1 - you said that you've decided that the ride didn't break into private property. My understanding is that the crew and, more importantly, the hospital's owner who WAS there, feel otherwise.
Despite that it's my job to be on them, I think film crews are pretty annoying sometimes. I mean, who the hell are they to tell people that they can't walk on the sidewalk in front of their homes, or to tell people they have to wait to drive their cars through the only road there is to get to where they're going? I think in this case the film crew's presence is unimportant except that it meant security was there, lots of people noticed what the bike ride was doing, and most importantly, the building owner was there. I think that made going ahead with the ride a dumb move. Or at least, it meant that going into the hospital and then not being polite to the people already there a dumb move.
We all break laws on these rides. For me, the issue is not so much that we do but it's how we go about handling the consequences of it (angry drivers, law enforcement, etc.) Like, when people get confrontational with drivers who are understandably annoyed and confused, or when people are assholes to the cops whose JOB it is to make sure we're following the laws designed to keep everyone safe. A lot of riders run around thinking that being in a mob gives us some sort of entitlement to break laws and that we have a right to be belligerent with those who have a problem with it. Breaking laws automatically puts us in the wrong and I just wish riders would go into it with that attitude.
And yes, I love cops. Most of the time.

Your last posting shows your last gasp of breath on trying to find SOMETHING mischeivious. Before it was defacing and being rude to someone, later turned out to be false. Do you own this building????? The owner was there, if he took action, as is his right, we didnt have SWAT converge and squash us. We were outside the front building for at least 30-40 minutes more socializing. Yes, us hooligan degenerates were engaged in social conversation!!!!!! Sorry for humanizing people you see as miscreants bringing down the whole world view of cycling.
DeKadenzy04.10.08 - 12:54 pm

Katie,
Breaking in and trespassing are two different things. Sure if you're getting all your info from the owner, of course he's going to embellish his side of the story. Looks like that was your only source of info. We heard from several ridazz here and some I know personally and trust. Guess who I believe?
Also I really don't believe these guys were rude as you still are believing. Sure maybe to the owner after he's all getting bitchie. I think it was more of an accumulation of incidents than this one really that his panties in a knot.
And yeah we break laws when we ride sometimes. What's your point? We break the law and take our chances, just like nearly every single driver on our freeways!
The night would have been alot more fun if the film crew wasn't there. You had no lead time to give ridazz the word that your crew was going to be there? You seem to have found the right thread after the fact, I'm curious as to how you did.
Finally, as a mob I think we're quite reserved from acting with a mob mentality as you describe. I've seen so many times some pissed off driver or resident where we happen to be, come up to us and confront 20, 100, 200 plus ridazz. Any other mob would have UFCed the guy's ass and sent him on with a new perspective in life. What have I seen in every situation except one? Ridazz calming the situation down and reasoning with the guy.
I guess I'll have to explain the one incident above that I saw where there was just property damage done. It was these dumb ass kids that were in their car in the valley. It was after 2am and we were riding back to our cars at the start. They were rolling up next to us trying run us off the road. Words were exchanged and they stopped. They were out numbered and probably drunk. Anyways no punches were thrown, but their car got f**ked up!

It was not "my" crew. I never know where I'm going or what for until I'm called and given an address, usually a few hours before I'm supposed to be there. After I went on the vampire short's set Tuesday evening, I went to two other sets on Wednesday. So I don't claim any kind of ownership for the vampire show, I just went in, did my job, and got out.
I'm not going to continue to try and "prove" what happened. I wasn't there, and I wouldn't give two shits except that people were talking about what happened Monday night (and they thought it was Midnight Ridazz, no less) and it sucked to hear about some douchey behavior. But it's hard to prove to douchebags that they are being douchebags. So I'm not really interested in beating a dead horse on this anymore, or arguing my point beyond saying that I think it sucks to break into private property (and these ARE the words that the crew and apparently the police had used) and then be dicks about it when asked to leave.

all i know to whatever you're talking about is we went into linda vista through an open door...walked around and shined some flash lights into dark rooms and were eventually asked to leave by the security. All the people that were in the same area as me were super nice to the guy and even said thank you for not being a dick to us. then we all left and hung out outside and waited for everyone to come outside. but then again i am a douche bag so maybe thats douche bag behavior.

Silly thing to argue about anymore, but my experience was exactly that of kegwrecker...i mean, if we had really been pissing them off, they would have called the real cops and kicked us off the property completely...as it was we hung around on the lawn for a loooong time and the 'retired' cops were cool with that. There was DEFINITELY no 'breaking and entering' as the place was wide open.
As for the ride overall, it was really fun save for the driver that tried to assault me for doing nothing that he could even vaguely define, and being the only one in the back of the ride that had any idea what part of LA we were in or how to get home. Thanks for the organization guys, i'll definitely catch up with ya on the next one that passes near the eastside.
