Clean it up !!!

Last night was a good ride in my book. The Boomchickawahwah Ride was very well done. The parking structures were awesome ( great location to kick back and party). The church stop was different and weird but still cool. The only thing I'd like to bring up is the trash we'd left at the park . Why are there always a few people that make the whole group look bad ? Is it really that hard to throw out your empty beer can or bottle? There are trash cans 20- 50 feet away . Come on people let's keep the park clean so we can do this for years to come. Let's show some respect for the city of North Hollywood ........... til next time.... RIDE ON BROTHERS !!!!!!!!

GOod idea, ...maybe we should carry some black trash bags (not supplied by the city) ...some official might actually notice MR having fun but keeping it tidy eh????????????
Looks like you guys had an awesome ride, wish I could have attended!!

Better yet, people could make the effort to walk twenty fucking feet to a trash can, rather than leaving their crap on the grass on the assumption that their mom will happen by and clean it up for them. Or is this truly asking too much?

i think it would be neat if people occasionally took it upon themselves to toss out a stray can on behalf of fellow ridazz.
i sometimes do just that, because then i get to feel justifiably self-righteous.
bringing along bags and sht? hey - to each his own.

This was the one negative thing I heard at the farmlab when I was inquiring about their space for our Toy Drive. The person I talked to mentioned that there were some bike riders that went to the Corn Field, http://www.notacornfield.com/ , when there were events going on, and apparently they left a bunch of beer bottles scattered around. Sure would suck if that was the reason they won't let us have our event there at their Under Spring spot huh?

Lucky you, limeyfly.
It's going to be awhile before I get to see any weekend rides again.
Until then, I'll be doing my best to keep a "one-group ride/week" minimum.
Because y'all know my stance on "solo-recreational" riding.

Obviously trash needs to get thrown out. But are the cans thrown into the trash sorted by the city and recycled? If not would it not be better to leave them out in some semi organized fashion so they were easy to collect. Instead of making people fish through the garbage and possibly missing some?
Exceptions, such as places people rarely go to collect cans, ie. the Jetty at the Marina, Farmlab.
A collection of beer cans isn't pretty but neither is watching a poor guy in a trashcan up to his waist sorting the garbage. It's seems more efficient than throwing them away.

One more thing about Franz's idea is we can't leave beer bottle/cans where we are not suppose to have any like parks. It won't be long before this will become an issue with the city.
It's easy to figure out where an MR route is, it's littered with beer bottle/cans. To figure out the route back if it isn't a loop is follow the beer can/bottles.

Hey y'all ............ I'd just like to see us take care of the park that we call home on Saturday nights. Weather it's glass bottles or cans , just throw it away and not leave it on the ground where we all ride over the shit. To recycle would be great but we all know that won't happen so let's just keep it off the grass and have a good time ....................

Man that's pretty sad if this is true.
Leaving cans for the hobos by the trash cans is not a bad idea. Bottles tend to be a bit more trouble but I'm sure most of them take that too.
Taking bottles on the ride leaves me with a big "HUH?". Why deal with all the weight and hassle of bottles?

how many of you have friend ships with people who sole source of income in recycling bottles and can? I do have a few friends who sole source of income is just that. Leaving then at the park all round in a certain area will assure they will be pick up, will it look bad until they are picked up, YES it will.
SO quit your belly aching and do something about it. I look forward to seeing each one of you actually do something at the next ride I see you at. My money says, you will won't do a damm thing. Why don't you all prove me wrong.
The only person I have actually seen pic thrash up off the street is PC, let see the rest of you. especially you USER1. I look forward to seeing you bend over and take a drink container or piece of trash and putting it in the trash.
Come on Ridazz prove me wrong!
Knittens11.26.07 - 1:25 pm

The sad reality is...the people who are leaving garbage all over the parks and street aren't going to read this.
I'm all for recycling, but we should bag and take.
If you have friends that need the dough...bring it to them, rather than leave it in the park and assume someone else will grab it.
LEAVE NO TRACE !!!

Usually at the end of a stop one of the ride leaders will shout: "5 minutes" and "let's go"
Maybe we should add: "Pick up your trash" or "Trashcan on the right corner"
This would works even better if Big Bike Dan is there with his sound system and a mike.
As for bags...
First I thought it would be silly to carry bags full of cans & bottles for the entire ride. Then it occured to me that one would only need to carry them a few hundred feet to the nearest dumpster. Refill and redump at the next stop.
In any case we should be giving a 5 min warning to clean up so there is no mad rash to leave to catch up with the ride.

This should apply to all rides....I'm embarrassed with how olvera st looked when we started the ride...(and every parking lot we stopped at)
Is it really that hard to spend the 20 seconds it takes to find a trash can?
Are you okay with trashing the Midnight Ridazz image?
Who ever you are, do you live life placing responsibility on everyone else's shoulders?
If a couple people stayed behind to clean up after people it would have taken so long they may never have caught up!
Dan, If you build a freak bike with a trash can, I will tow it If that is what it takes...maybe one side for trash on can for recyclables?

Liz,
We don't need that!!! Sexy posted on the Jedi thread. All it takes is a few large trash bags, one or two for trash, rest for recycleables and fill 'em up and leave for the folks that can benefit from it. That would do the trick don't you think??

Unfortunately the second time we were at olivera st. we were booted so rudely by the cop that we had no chance to clean up after our selves. However, this is no reason that we can't clean up. Leaving trash and shit aint cool.
Here's an idea... all those people who wanna ride fast all the time, how about you guys stay back a few seconds clean up, then you can ride fast, to catch back up... Those of us that do clean (when we arent riding something that makes us work our asses off just to ride it) have to do that... and hey, it would make the pace of the ride go a little more smoothly.

Okay, I understand and agree with those of you pleading for rightful cleanup at the beer stops...
...but newbie310 and I were there after all of you had left. Some ridazz stayed behind for a couple of minutes to clean up what they could.
But, these are the facts: when we were struggling to get my tire back in order, the guys from the store came out to clean up the rest. I told them that I was sorry (speaking for the group). They said that it was totally okay...they were all kinds of happy because they made a bunch of money in 45 minutes. I was all apologetic, but they wouldn't have it...they were seriously thankful.
I'm sure that isn't the case at every stop we make, and I didn't get to be there with all of you on the later stops of the night (because I was waiting on Danny's ride to the hospital) but it isn't all that bad, at least from what I experienced on Saturday night. (of course, this leaves out the actuality that rollers, among others, stayed to clean up for a couple of minutes).

You have a point, Tern; the truth is that the guy from the store wasn't upset and I'm sure you're right that he was happy to have made a bunch of dough. I just don't like how it reflects on us as a group because leaving a bunch of trash around just goes against my values and the way I was brought up. I'm sure the same goes for most of the people who read and participate in this forum.
The other (somewhat comical, actually) thing that happened as I was standing there frowning at the trash was that some woman riding out of the parking lot on a mountain bike runs over a can, dead center, it sticks to her back tire and jams itself in between the tire and the brake caliper. She hears this awful noise, her wheel locks up and she has no idea what's happening, so I say, "Hold on" and I reach over and pull it out.
Then she says, "Thank you, Sir" and rides away.
