I wonder how this will be affected by the Defense of Marriage Act signed by William Jefferson "Defend Marriage" Clinton.

Sexy. What the fuck. I think you've reached a new level of not thinking before you post. I was going to start a meaningless post contest, but you just preemptively won.

Some gays believe that their two biggest
privileges are exception from marriage and military draft.
Its not really about "wanting" to get married though is it?
Its about ending codified discrimination.
From what I have read of Obama's positions, he does support very strident civil union legislatio; that attempts to narrow the equality gap when it comes to government recognition of relationships.
Is this ideal? Not by any means, but it is certainly a step forward. A step that won't happen under McCain.
And certainly a distinct difference from the steps backward of Mr. Clinton who felt it necessary to sign legislation to protect America from gay marriage while he was getting his knob polished under the desk in the oval office.
Maybe he thought that if gays could (be forced) to resist the desire to enter into government recognized life long monogamous relationships that would help him resist the temptation to boink people that wern't his wife.

I had a lesbian roomate in Seattle who was vehemently opposed to the idea of gay marriage, she believed that it was a unique distinction, and that it "separated, instead of trivialized" her position as a homosexual.
For me it was always as simple as a government denying rights to a percentage of the population for an absurd prejudiced reason.
Something that is more than wrong.
Also, the stink of religion and policy mixing together is always repulsive
regardless, California: 1 Bigots: 0

Hmm. I see.
sexy, I strongly discourage you from reconstructing the past. While it is tempting to convince yourself and others that you were the one making valid points, the psychological trauma of having those fraudulent structures destroyed upon your return to reality could prove quite costly. It would be like that Batman episode where the Riddler is trapped by his own psychological game and he loses his mind. I wouldn't want to lose you, dear friend. It is better to live in the truth, even when that the truth is that you have always been my bitch.
Daddy's home.

This was awesome news for the day! Makes our state that much more rational than most others in the union. This was the reason I never wanted to participate in this ceremony. Who wants to participate in something legitimized by the state that excludes a percentage of the population based solely on their sexual preference?
I do still have a problem with the church being a large part of the ceremony, but that can be avoided. As can the issue of blood diamonds.
Congrats to all that had hoped for this day!

I was reading comments by readers in the newspaper regarding this issue of overturning the ban on gay marriage that concerned me.
The reader stated that this may allow laws to be changed where domestic partners will not be afforded the same benefits such as health insurance by an employer, now that you be able to marry if you are of the same sex.
Does anybody know anything about this? Is this a scare tactic or something that should be of concern to domestic partner that choose not to take a contract of marriage with the state?
