Tickets go on sale WEDNESDAY, Jan 16th, 10AM Pacific Time
http://tickets.burningman.com/
Burning Man is Aug 25th to Sep 1st, mark your calendars.
We ARE making camp this year. Yes, Midnight Ridazz will be hosting a camp. I'm going to make it happen. Even if I'm the only one there. But I know I won't be. Through the year we will discuss what we will host. Such as rides, bicycle repair, etc. But don't concern with that right now.
If you have any intent, thoughts or desire to go, BUY YOUR TICKET on Wednesday. You can always sell it later. Do it.
Yes, Burning Man is Bike related. Just a bit.

I'm also hoping that our Salton Sea trip will be a good precursor trip for Burning Man. With lots of bike riding as well.

The Box is planning on only taking 10 people with all supplies and bicycles.
The Cost of $200 per person will be sufficient to cover the almost 1,300 miles, Beer, propane and other misc. stuff for the trip.

Buy your tickets straight away. Like Dak did for you last time. You will be able to sell them easily if you change your minds.
Tickets will NOT be sold at the gate this year.
The tickets start at $210
This really is reasonable, considering what it costs for them to pay the government, clean up, provide toilets, etc. I've had an amazing time, all three times that I have gone before.

"The tickets start at $210

It's a lot of work so the $210 is well worth it. Wish I could make it again, maybe next year.
toweliesbong01.15.08 - 2:03 pm
reply
Although its great to buy your ticket early, there are other ways to go too. If $$ is an issue then there are grants that you can get for lower price tickets (check the website). As it gets closer to the event you can often find tickets on Craigslist for face value.
Also, we should discuss this as a camp....there are some camps that get people to do work for the camp in exchange for a cheap or free ticket. Like cooking.
I'm thinking that a meeting might be a good thing...for anyone interested in going...
Wonderdave01.15.08 - 5:33 pm
reply
There will be a meeting at the Salton Sea trip, definitely.
Let's wait for people to get their tickets, TOMORROW at 10AM. I would also recommend some of you poorer folk to apply for the Low Income tickets or even one of the grants.
I will look into getting our camp REGISTERED, which may or may not get us some primo reserved spots. Dave & Crespin, can you ask M for me?
Borfo, could you start a mailing list for this.
Thank You All. I'm really excited about this.

Not sure if we're going to the Salton sea....as we've been going to BM for 5 years and kinda got our shit down. Might be others can't go on the trip, so I think it would be better to meet in town...like the Bike Oven.
And Dak, we'll check with M about the whole procedure of getting our camp registered...and part of that, I know, is deciding what our camp is about...if we're gonna do anything for the BM world (fix bikes, make meals....)
Wonderdave01.15.08 - 10:40 pm
reply
Fixing bikes sounds like a great idea. Lots of people bring bikes to BM that don't know much about them, so we'll be there to help them when they have problems!
BunnyBubbles01.15.08 - 10:48 pm
reply
well that's the stuff we gotta meet about....cause fixing bikes there is a great thing...people love it cause they don't know anything about bikes...but it is an endless job...the last camp I saw that fixed bikes were hating life, as the line was down the block of people who just wanted to drop their bikes off and pick them up later. But all that oil is hard to get off of you without a proper shower.
that's why a meeting to discuss this kind of stuff would be good. And if we're open to having a big camp, we can open it up to other bikers from all over who are going.
Wonderdave01.15.08 - 11:04 pm
reply
buy your tickets today.
as in right NOW.
the first 10,000 are the least expensive.
there are over 6,000 waiting to purchase tickets
spiraldemon01.16.08 - 10:23 am
reply
i honestly have no money in my bank account right now for the tickets. & i won't for another month or so. how fast do you think the tickets will go? i'm good for the money if someone will buy my ticket now.
kathryncupcake01.16.08 - 10:33 am
reply
You will be able to buy tickets later. But if possible it is best to get them now.
If you have the will enough to go to Black Rock City, then you will.
Joe Borfo01.16.08 - 10:46 am
reply
If you didn't get tickets within the first or second tier, and you made only a little money this past year, apply for the Low Income ticket. I did it the other year, and it got accepted. Doesn't hurt to try.
Otherwise, if you have the dough, just buy you tickets later when the rush is over. They should remain at about $250 for a few months, then jump up to max in July or August.

OK, so who's ready to start talking about planning?
the reverend dak01.16.08 - 11:22 am

...and oh, start preparing for yourself:

the reverend dak01.16.08 - 11:25 am

cool, then let's start throwing out some times. Starting after this weekend, when are people free? If we're doing it at the Oven then it will have to be before or after operating hours. Unless anyone else has a centrally located spot that will fit all.
Meeting should be for anyone def coming to start talks about what we want our camp to be (theme camp....just a row of tents?), and also for anyone on the fence so that they can ask questions, get more info.
Wonderdave01.16.08 - 2:51 pm

maybe we should have a short meeting at every ride, like 30 minutes early.
the reverend dak01.16.08 - 4:05 pm

Roadblock01.16.08 - 4:25 pm

Joe Borfo01.16.08 - 4:26 pm

Go Towlies. Go Everyone!
We're going to have a good time together. Let's go Ridazz
Joe Borfo01.16.08 - 4:40 pm

OK bozos! Dak, thanks for taking the bull by the horns! It's a start and I'm glad to see this is getting under way. I doubt I'll be able to make it to the Saltin Sea as I will be going to work in NY for a few days before that trip. I do think it's a good idea to organize a precursor however, as those who have been to BM, nothing, but nothing can prepare you.
I also think a meeting before the Saltin Sea trip is a good idea as I know a few people who are interested in BM will not be able to go on that trip. I will check in with the Oven as to what's a good day to have a meeting there. Josef has already said he'd offer up as much as he can even though he may not be able to go himself.
As far as a "Theme Camp" just a few words: As a theme camp we are able to do a few things that some "groups" cannot such as: have camp fires, enter Black Rock City early, occupy a primo spot such as on a busy square or the esplanade. As a theme camp we would also be more visible to the general public, and perhaps get grants to take care of some of the $$ burden of helping people (help themselves).
Reasons why not to have a "Theme Camp": because once you're there you may not want any responsibility whatsover, to no one, nothing, let alone some yahoo who can't change a tire. If we do a bike repair "theme camp" does that mean that someone does the repair or do we set it up for people to help themselves? Where do we get the tools, supplies, etc.
If anyone is truly interested in going in a group please check out the website burningman.com especially the First Timers Guide.

So, who got tickets?
First meeting is Tomorrow, at Sins & Sprockets. It will be a partial meeting. Just look for me before the ride, and we'll work things out...
For those going to Crimanimal Mass instead, could someone front & organize a meeting out there? Richie o Marcus? Collect ideas. take notes. we'll re-convene here, or on a mailing list.
Right now is the time for brainstorming IDEAS. Ideas only, no naysayers, all ideas will be discussed. Collect ideas & visions for our camp.

and I never heard of that campfire rule. As long as you have a pit to burn the fire in, then you are fine. I hate all these goddamn rules.
Joe Borfo01.18.08 - 5:46 pm

So yeah, there are advantages to having a theme camp, as Crespin mentioned in his posting above...earlier entrance, our camp posted in the guide, secured placement site, the ability to have a fire pit (they've gotten more restricitve about fire in the past few years).
This is why I think we should all try to meet together. Can people do some night this upcoming week? Or maybe I'll just set something up and whoever can show.

I don't know why nobody is jumping up and down about this idea, but BURNING MAN is the most awesome trip I've ever done. And now, we are talking about doing a MIDNIGHT RIDAZZ THEME CAMP!!!. That means We are going to be an established camp with many Ridazz experiencing the time of our lives in Black Rock City surviving for a week in extreme conditions and riding our bikes around together in this amazing festival of art and autonomy. If you don't know about this event you should look it up and not hesitate to get started to prepare for this trip. Midnight Ridazz is going to participate together to get a theme camp running and hold our own events. cook for each other, help each other out, and ensure the elements as we practice radical free expression in the best place in the world to do so. I encourage anyone who reads this to come to our next meeting to discuss plans and develop ideas on how to make this Burning Man experience even better. This is going to be an amazing year for BM and I hope we fill our camp with tons of people who participate in Midnight Ridazz. Please ask questions and pay attention to this event happening at the end of August. Dont hesitate. Plan now to make it any way you can to this event of a lifetime..

We are going to make a Ridazz camp at BM this year. We doubt it will be a registered camp, and i doubt we'll have a reserved space. A bunch of us had our own little burn at Salton Sea this past March, and it set the precedence of what we can do at Burning Man. We haven't had a meeting or decided what we, as a group, will give to the BM community as a whole. We need to figure that stuff out first, but at the minimum a shit load of us will be camping together at BM this year. Me, and a few others, will be getting there as early as possible, and marking out some space. Then we'll send out the coordinates however we can, most likely a sign on the BB, and registered, at Playa Info.
Come find me at the next ride if you want to discuss.

We really should start talking about this. Anyone that's interested, find me. Let's discuss. I'll start a Ridazz Camp mailing list soon. It's only a couple months away now. A bunch of us have our tickets, now we just have to figure out the logistics and figure out how we want to contribute to the BM community while we are there. We need to represent. I'm just not sure how.
Have ideas? let's hear them.

Who has that "Get out of my way hippies, I'm from LA." graphic. No offense to any hippies, but that's the attitude I want to see at Burning Man. We're from the f-ing FUTURE!

Buy your ticket
2.
google forum.
MAKE IT HAPPEN.

So the deadline is tomorrow (5/30) to register to be a theme camp. On the google groups we're trying to put together an estimate of how many people are going (we have to estimate how much space in terms of people, cars, tents, busses, RVs).
So give a shout out if you're thinking of going. (You plus, how many) and if you're bringing a vehicle. Obviously you can change your mind, but we'd rather have too much space than too little.

WE HAD AN AWESOME MEETING LAST NIGHT GAIS!!!
Commendation To SugarShorts and FOOD REQUEST
to ridazzcamp
After last nights meeting, I feel so excited. Astounded, in fact. Vegas Ben a.k.a SugarShorts, presented us with an amazing camp build concept that we are going to implement.
I am very grateful that he is willing to take on this endeavor. His only request, aside from assistance in preparing, setting up, and striking, He would like to not have to cook food.
I am more than willing to supply him with that. Also, I was thinking about the Kitchen and Food situation, and at the meeting I said that I would help in organizing a list where I would encourage that everyone can volunteer to provide one meal for the camp.
Before you naysay this, please consider that you have the right to not contribute and of course bring whatever food you want for yourself.
I am just asking for a list of volunteers to provide ONE MEAL (breakfast, lunch or dinner) and I will help to organizer this chart.
So, PLEASE CONTACT ME SEPARATELY if you are willing to cook one meal for the camp - we could also set up teams if there are enough to contribute.
Not only is Ben providing us with an incredible communal space, but we also have the opportunity as a Camp to cook for each other and bond as a community.
Ben, thank you so much for your contribution ( Design and Funding for Camp Shade and SUPER SEXY COMMUNAL SPACE)
Matt, thank you so much for your ( FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION)
Everyone else, Thank you for your efforts into making this the most amazing BM experience I have ever had!
Sincerly,

As a crusty old fart who has been to this particular event many times, many moons ago, I offer this advice. LOCK YOUR BIKE. I know too many people who have had their bike lifted while at Burningman. I loaned mine to a friend last year and it was stolen on the first day. Burningman tried some community bike system with thousands of green huffys up for grabs but it seems this just made all bikes seem free for the taking. Even if you don't lock it to anything. A crappy cable through the wheel will make sure no one just pedals away while you're getting coffee.
