i've talked to a few personal injury lawyers..here's two names ..i'm not sure if i'm going to use one though, since the guy that hit me took off (i'm just going to claim uninsured motorist money from my AAA account).
F. Anthony Koushan 310-552-9596 (beverly hills)
David Olan 310-312-3898 (century city)

Christopher Morey is handling my case right now. His office (Morey & Upton) is somewhere in Orange County or something but he's a real shark and he's notorious for turning down cases unless he's absolutely sure that it will win. You don't have to go down to the office anyway. I'm just dealing with my case over phone, fax and mail. He was recommended to me by a friend who got $50k from FedEx when one of their trucks backed up into her car.

Bad bad bad experience with him. He will turn on you in a heart beat.
Just wants to make money for himself.
Stay away from David Olan.

I got a flyer for a guy who specializes in bicycle injuries as part of the crap bag they handed out at the Solvang Century. I'll try to dig out of my trash tonight.

I've never hired him myself, but Gary Brustin is a well-known bicycle lawyer based in Los Angeles. He's a board member of the League of American Bicyclists and a long-time supporter of bike advocacy groups.

really? stay away from Olan? i was about to call him today...he's a friend of my chiropractor, but i don't want to screw myself over. now i'm worried. i just want to the 15k from my uninsured motorist money on my AAA account, even if it cost me to use a lawyer (seems easier and quicker).
tomato03.12.08 - 1:46 pm
reply
YES YES YES, STAY AWAY. There are plenty of accident attorney "bicycle accident specialist" or not, that should get you your money, if possible. He screwed over a good friend of mine BIG TIME. I'll put it this way, if he can't get your money, he will try to get some money for his fee, and screw over your whole case. Just in case something changes in the future where you could make a claim, on something you can't get today for whatever reason.
If you where to go with Olan, in his contract, it states that if you don't agree to what is negotiated by him, he can accept it for you. You sign with him, you are signing any final decision on the case that you would want to decide on your own.
As for Gary Brustin: I talked with him on the phone about a certain case, and he told me he only works on "car hits bicycle cases" it his deal.. He is the real deal, a rider himself, but still had that prickish attorney attitude. He did refer me to a guy in MacAurthur park area, who I really liked. I didn't end up using him(there ended up being no case that he could go after), but I really liked his demeanor. He charged the old 33-1/3 cut as oppose to the 40% cut that most attorney take today. He had a great office. I don't remember his name, but if you call Brustin office, I'm sure he can give it to you. That was almost three years ago that he referred me to him.
Remember, if for some reason an attorney refers you to go see one of their doctors, and for some reason your case doesn't get settled, you are stuck with the bill for that doctor. That the way those doctor's offices are doing it today.

Gary Brustin seems good, never heard ANYTHING negative about his cases. Met him, he looks like a cyclist and NOT some fat ass attorney who drops bank on call girls.
Some lawyers will eat the cost of doctors bills on the lean..
Drivers suck, if they hit you, punish them, get a lawyer that day and start racking up the medical bills.
Cockblock03.13.08 - 9:40 am
reply
that sucks. he actually just emailed me this morning to follow up. he offered me a lower rate since he knows i can only get 15k from my insurance. i can't go after the kids that hit me since they took off. thanks for the info.
tomato03.13.08 - 10:11 am

So basically Tiff you are utilizing your car insurance to pay for bicycle accident injuries?
An you have yet to nail down a good attorney to help you recoup expenses, pain and suffering, etc.
I thought they caught one of the guys? Maybe they should go after him, or he can turn in the guy who drove the car.
skd03.13.08 - 11:12 am
reply
yeah basically. but i only have up to 15k coverage (i should have chosen the higher amount and paid more...now i know)...
they never got the kid in the car. even if they did, i doubt he has any insurance . stupid kids -of course they were juveniles...lame

Gary Brustin rep'd me when a car ran a stop sign and took me out.. Unfortunately the donut eater that wrote the report ignored the fact that it was a four way stop and the car that hit me was easily doing 40-50mph when it hit me INSIDE the intersection. The damage to the grill, hood, and windshield should have made it obvious that it couldn't have been my fault. Basic knowledge of Newtonian physics should be a pre-req for analyzing accident scenes. I was unconscious at the scene and didn't really have any thing to say because I never saw it coming. He went with the drivers tale that I crashed into her fat ass.. Gary went out of his way to help me out and didn't charge for his time but in the end the police report favored the driver and a settlement would have been unlikely so I let it go.. fuck that cops robot life.
but Gary Brustin is the real deal..

the guy that hit me was in an suv and was party of a robbery (which involved a gun)..but he took off without the guy doing the robbing and hit me in the process (i think he heard the cops coming-the ones we called when we witnessed things go down). one lawyer said that even if they had insurance, i wouldn't get anything since this incident was part of another crime...crazy shit

it's about what anybody wants to write, is what this thread is about.
As for Gary B. not taking GOpez's case, maybe he thought his energy would be better spent somewhere else. Somebody else would be better at taking this certain case. How does that make him a bad attorney?
Are you jealous you ain't going to SD, eddie?

Eddie,
Who was the attorney who finally took your case against the MTA?

sexy, you really have to stop thinking that the entire world is stalking you and jealous of you and your "funny" ways. san diego, plenty more trips will come. as for gary, you can stop advocating for him, no mention of his name in this thread is accompanied with the words "results, win, settlement or compensation."
Eddie GOpez03.13.08 - 9:42 pm

Sexy, really check your rational thought process if you've got any of those rational wavelengths in your frayed neurons. you're behavior seems passive aggressive and obsessive-compulsive, so that you have to ask the question of "jealousy of the san diego trip" twice. Your dilusion is not so, Im not jealous you sassy diva.

I know it's not Los Angeles since he's out in NYC, but hopefully he'll know someone from LA to help out. He's a great guy and defended the Times Up bicycle movement against the NYPD during the 2004 RNC convention.

i used to work in insurance. in order for you to collect uninsured motoris (for hit and runs) you need to get the lic plate number and a description of the person driving the car... otherwise... good luck. you won't get anything. think about it... people could be claiming they were hit when they really weren't and collecting if shit was otherwise.
