Getty Center via bike

Hello all,
I was wanting to put a ride together to the Getty Center. There's a lecture on the LA bridges that I think you guys would like to go to. I emailed the Getty Center to see if there's a way to the center other than the parking route taken by people with cars. Not surprisingly, they haven't responded to my email. If you look at the image below, it looks like you can take Firth Ave to some private road on the Getty grounds. I don't if this route is gated or what. Does anyone know of another route to the Center? Can I take the route that I mentioned above?

I used to work at the Getty Center. The only gate they will allow the public to enter through is the one on Sepulveda. Particularly if you tell them you're travelling by bike...they'll tell you that's where their bike racks are.

The Sepulveda entrance is the one for cars. Have you had to ride that at night? What's the traffic situation and road conditions like? Any tips?

the entrance you are seeing on the map is actually a fire road. it's closed to the public. my parents house is just down the street from the fire road and i used to hike all over there as a kid until they built the getty. the only way in for us is the main entrance.

I would not ride up Sepulveda at night. But I am not as fearless as some.

I've ridden to the Getty several times.
Going up Sepulveda really isn't that bad. Traffic isn't nearly as fast as the traffic coming down.
They Getty's got pretty good bike parking in the garage. Plus since a bike isn't a car there's no charge to park.

For Sepulveda at night I recommend a very bright light (DiNotte or Nite Rider, 200 Lumens or more) so you can see and avoid rockfalls, new batteries in the back blinky, good health insurance... and yeah, make out your will.

Well riding up the hill and to it is going to be in the day light. Coming back will be downhill and at night. Doing it solo is a bitch, but with a pack, we're cool, yeah?
