(yet another) stolen bike

So I didn't lock up my bike at the Toy Ride afterparty, and as a result, I ended up giving away a much larger toy than I had intended. It looked a bit like this ->
If the thieves are reading this (hi thieves!), they should know that they took away my only working means of personal transportation, and they should feel very, very bad about that.
For everyone else, thanks in advance for your sympathy and all that. I appreciate your condolences and your promises to keep a sharp eye out, I do. But basically, I was an idiot for not locking up, and the chances that anyone reading this (other than the thieves - hi again, guys!) will ever see my bike are worse than slim.
So think of this as a PSA of sorts. It's a sad fact that you can't trust everyone at a Ridazz party to not be a walking piece of shit, but at a gathering where anyone can show up, you'd better expect that someone will be trying to screw you over. Always,
always lock your bike. Always sometimes is not enough.

bummer man. I feel your pain and no matter how useless it may be to post these threads, I think they should go up everytime someone
s bike gets lifted just for the PSA factor alone. But hey man I will keep a sharp eye out!

That fucking sucks Nathan... Saw a lot of people at the party that I'm pretty sure i never saw before.
I was just thinking. If I was gonna steal bikes in LA it would be a lot easier to just look at the MR calendar and show up to some rides and steal bikes then it would be to go around trying to break u-locks and stuff.
We are a large group of drunk people standing around with our bikes unlocked and we don't know half the people we are hanging out with.
Thieves are going to see this as an opportunity to score some really nice bikes... no tools required.

Sucks this happened to you Nathan. I know the feeling of going to your bike and finding it gone. Sucks big time.
I locked up with Jim who didn't have a lock. For peeps that don't have a lock with them, ask someone if you can share the lock.

Out of all the rides this is the one where people are stealing the most! What irony.

Nathan,
I of course feel bad for you. I hate when this happens to anyone.
You are right on about the PSA.
Always bring a lock...and wear a helmet, Please!
Stealing bikes seems to be on the up swing, and the bastards will be looking for the low hanging fruit.
I left my bike unattended and unlocked at the Toy Ride party myself, and just count myself lucky this time. Never again.

Don't be one of those peeps. Bring a U-lock.

Nathan -
If you need a bike to ride for a while, you're welcome to borrow my Schwinn Continental. Its a rock, but it rides nicely.

Dear bike thieves,
You know you're really fucking pathetic, right? Just stop and think about it... you steal honest peoples' method of transportation for pocket change. You may think you're clever but the fact that you stoop to this level proves that
you are a failure. Enjoy the rest of your meaningless life and rot in hell, douchebag.

Ahhha What a bummer. I didn't bring a lock with me last night and I ask LaHarr to lock my with his. While fingering out the best way to do so. We where talking about how you never had to lock your bike in the past and now, I was worried about them stealing my seat, unlocked wheel and possibly my shifters with handle bar, while the frame and the back wheel was to be locked. While trying to lock it up, my gfriend called and had shown up with her car. I locked it up in her trunk. This so sucks. We once had so much more carefree existence.
I remember when you got that bike Nathan. July 4, 2005 at the Helen's fourth of July sale. You took great care of it.

It's also a good idea to have two functional bikes if it's your sole means of personal transport; not only because of theft, but because it give you time to repair a bike not super rushed.
Sorry to hear your steed was stolen.

I was wondering when that happen, if the tamale people had anything to do with it?

Gezuz H! WTF is going on with the world today!!
I'm sorry about your loss. Hell. I'm sorry about every posters loss.
I've been carrying two locks with me these days. A kryptonite mini U & an NY Fu*ckyall beast chain aka Mr. Big.
The chain seems to come in incredibly handy tho, aside from the additional 15 lbs of weight.
:(

LOL let me guess. The Tamale Lady is suspected cause they are Mexican?
Nathan, what size frame did you have? We can keep a look out for a replacement on cl.

so sorry to hear that Nathan. it's crazy that even that far out in a remote area, shit still goes down like that. i'm willing to bet that some douchebag saw the ride and followed everyone from a distance until we stopped at the warehouse. that sucks.

Thanks, everybody. I've only now begun to feel depressed about this whole thing, and it's really great to know that so many people care. I guess I can count myself lucky that I didn't go through the trauma of getting robbed on the street like nesoxochi or the pain of watching my bike get run over in the parking lot like LanceK.
@NixonTwin: Thanks for the offer. I'm leaving for the holidays next week, but I'll let you know if I need a loaner when I get back on Jan 4th.
@sexy: My bike
was right behind the tamale stand, which was the main reason that I never locked up. I had freaked out earlier after someone moved my bike there (since I had set it down on the tracks when we first arrived), and when I asked the tamale cashier if it was in the way, she said it was fine. I'd be very surprised if the tamale people had anything to do with it, though. Hasn't that same business served tamales at tons of bike event afterparties over the years?
Also, I had
two locks with me last night - my U-lock that's always attached to my frame and a thick-ass cable lock in my bag. I didn't use either of them. Fate is clearly mocking me now.
Also also,
here is a photo of someone else's bike, identical to mine except that mine had a larger (60cm) frame and a triple chainring. It's eerie, the resemblance.
Also also also, thanks Gern for the ride home last night. You're a real swell guy.

My PSA:
My beloved Schwinn Stingray Apple Crate was left out side my local 7-11 as I got a Slurpee, when I was 8 yrs old. As I reached the door to leave, a kid was on the outside, holding the door so I couldn't get out. His buddies stole my bike. Later, other bikes had the cables cut to be stolen. Fast forward: 2005. I met Big Bike Dan and liked his Master Lock Street Cuffs. I have 2 pair, one for my "lot bike", & one for my bike you see me on.

My ride was left unlocked and sitting right in front of yours Allan.
With the top-heaviness added by the car-battery, someones going to have a real bitch of a time trying to get away on that one.
And if they lean it the wrong way and get their leg fractured by the battery falling on it, or an acid-burn, betcha they're going to try to sue my ass for wrongful-injury or something.
