So to those riding to SD for the Tour De Fat, is leaving on Friday from LB around 9am good for everyone? Meetup at 1st St & The Promenade in LB? Roll at 9:30am? Sound good?

Does it make you feel really strong and mighty to challenge someone to a race who everybody knows that, and told you specifically in person face to face, that I have not ridden a bicycle for the last year and a half in any significant amount. That I told you that I can not ride more then 20 miles without being exhausted. You continuously challenge me to a race of a size that you know dam well I couldn't do the whole way much less compete against someone.
The funny thing is I don't even see you making it to San Diego.
So good luck on your journey. I talk to the organizers of tour de fat about raising the price of beer for you since you are such a generous person. We all know how much you love to give.

Its my van that's going.. $15 if you're riding, one way costs as much as roundtrip. Van leaves Friday night, back Sunday afternoon. No sleeping overnight in the Van.

Oh, User1 can make it to Diego alright.
I rode 101 miles with him in May and he finisher strong.

Looks like the peeps I was counting on going aren't going to make it. I've never rode down there, so I don't feel comfortable taking others down there. From the looks of it, no one that wants to ride down there has gone before. We'll have to do it another time when there's others that want to go.
Leslie, Creative Thing mentioned wanting to ride to Laguna Beach. So that will be happening soon.

Hey if I can't get in the Van, I plan on driving down.
I have no Bike rack but I should be able to put 2 bikes in my car with the seats down. (room for 1 more)

and i was telling my roommate the megaphone fan-bike story and now the song is stuck in my head all over again. i managed to go about 2 hours without constantly singing it at the top of my lungs, but now it's back.

SD kicked ass! The night ride around San Diego was too much fun. Every local biker I talked to said they just don't have rides like that down there very often. I told 'em all to come north, we do it every night of the week.
Props to SD Drew as his directions got Me, User1, Chynna, and Coldcut where we needed to go safely.
Can't wait until next time.

Yeah SD is definitely a town where you got to know the routes. As we found out the first night riding! We got directions from some fixing kids riding home, when we were riding out. On the way to our destination, we saw there was a shortcut. Well what we thought was a shortcut. A few hundred feet later in elevation, we got to our destination. Was a fun night none the less.
Haven't looked through my pics yet, but hopefully there's some. Good time down there.
Hope next year they do the Tour De Fat here in LA. They generated $20000 in sales that was donated to the different bike charities. Man, LACBC could really use a chunk of change like that!

i dont know... im just this guy who went to San Diego and hung out some of ya'll here and there...
I hope were talking about the same song... i dont recall lyrics... just a kind of technotronic shit.... that really made my buzz better...
Some friends and I hit this spot during the festival called "Mandarin House" (it was right around the block)... it had this dope old school-ish bar... we had a drink called the "Volcano" (or maybe my friend just named it that)... anyhow they lit it on fire....
I returned to the festival feeling really good... ran into PC, and probably said something stupid...and THEN; the fan... and I just kept hearing this tune from Dak's ipod + megaphone or something... i just kept telling my girl, "that a cool song or whatever it is... is like perfect right now"... it really fit the vibe.
everyone seemed faded........ so it was a good day

For the record, nobody puked off of the wobbly bridge. A certain person tried, and I did see some nice long strands of saliva (prepuke?) but nothing was hurled. :)

SO......if we knew and would have preplanned we should have biked over to
The Pearl Hotel San Diego for Sunday afternoon brunch and endless mimosas. It happens everybody Sunday from 10am-2pm. On the first Sunday of the month if you bike over it is $10 instead of the usual $20. Looks like a pretty swank place and would have been nice to lounge around before Sunday Fun Day.
I didn't find out until I went over to
VELO CULT (yes I need help picking that up) and had my Eric Hair painted Chicken Pox frame straighten out. Yes
VELO CULT is a must visit when in San Diego. They told me about the Pearl bicycle brunch....put enought about that, lets talk about
VELO CULT .Not only are they experts at working out (properly - which many mechanics try to make something work not to look like they don't know what they are doing and fail) any issues you may have with your steel bike, they have the most beautiful collection of refurbished steel bikes. Yes you will pay a little more if you purchase a bike from them(then you would say cl), but they work out all the little problems you would have, so you can just ride enjoy and not wrench. Pay now or pay or later. Plus I saw many bikes with new Brooks saddles throw on them. They only seem to carry parts that you would want to buy for your bike.
To top all that off, they threw a great after party for the tour de fat. Complete with beer, fire, smores and great live music from Trio Gadjo. VISIT THEM WHEN IN SAN DIEGO!

I'd like to plan a ride to go down there with ridazz again on the amtrak.
Once there we can hang out, ride, whatever.
Then, I'd like to ride back all the way to LA. Possibly camping overnight at San Clemente hike and bike on the way.
I'm not ready to do this month. But I'll make an announcement when I'm ready and bounce it off those who are interested. (no it's not an exclusive thing, freakos)
