ROTW: San Diego Drew
Thread started by
PC at 12.18.08 - 8:31 pm
Because it's about time, that's why!
He may technically live in San Diego, but he puts more energy into the LA Kulture than most people from LA do. This guy will get on an Amtrak to Union Station, ride a hundred kilometers with you, fix your flat, and then buy you breakfast at Denny's afterward. We're not worthy.
And he looks good in a dress!

YAY DREW!
Time to do another MR Ride in San Diego.

Definitely.
We should also do a ride in-between in that other neighborhood I don't think we ever ride in, Where our wonderful PC and 420LaHarr live, San Pedro. We should do rides in BOTH.

HEAR YE HEAR YE!
I agree with PC on this one.
Now with some of the questions:
How did you get into riding and how did it evolve into the level that you have taken it to today?
Why do you like to come to LA so much?
When you come to LA, not by bike, do you prefer train, bus, airplane or car, why?
If you didn't have your family business what do you see yourself doing career wise?
Do you have any dreams you would like to share with us?
Do you think Katie Kelly is as hot as all the bike guys in LA do, or is she more a sister figure?
What makes Ludi Christ the Mayor of San Diego?
What is your dream bike, do you have it already?
If you could only have one bike what would it be?
Do you like your curly hair?
That should keep you busy.

I THINK I MET HIM ONCE IN PERSHING SQUARE AT A NIGHT RIDE, I ALWAYS WISH I'D HAVE GONE ON A 'SD' RIDE, NO BAD MEMORIES THAT NIGHT.

Yes, a worthy choice! When Alice & I took the train down to SD a while back, we were fortunate to spend several hours with Drew and he gave us the full walking tour of San Diego.
Always a great guy to have on a ride!

There are some fine people among midnightridazz. People who are truly giving and caring. But I have to rate Drew as among the highest level of those already elevated riders. This person does for others for the sake of doing, often at his own expense in time, money, and personal pleasure. I've ridden with him extensively and he has ALWAYS been a positive influence on every ride. He's also one of those kinds of people that organizes and cleans up the chaotic crap that the rest of us live in. And god knows we need people like that!
I like this Drew guy. I am really very honored to know him.

OK, so I tried to answer Sexy’s questions without putting you all to sleep. Interesting how answering questions makes ya feel nakie.
How did you get into riding and how did it evolve into the level that you have taken it to today?
I’ve had bikes since I was three? I was lucky to grow up when your folks would let you ride like 7-8 miles to the record store on your own. I rode everywhere and it was no big deal, so a bike has pretty much always been in the plan. BMX as a kid then road around junior high and mountain in high school. I raced a little as a kid, but let’s face it…I’m not fast. I’ve been in and out of cycling groups and scenes all along. But MR is the first group that feels like a family.
Why do you like to come to LA so much?
I love LA!!! (Sorry if that song gets stuck in your head)
I lived there for 2 years in the late 90s when I worked for a radio station in Santa Monica. San Diego is beautiful and I do love it here, but LA has a lot more energy. It’s a purer (sp) slice of humanity.
A large part of that for me has been MR. I’m sure some of you are sick of me saying it all the time, but we have an amazing thing here. The MR community has been a huge positive force in my life. All of you at some level test me and push me in new directions. You give me so much love and support, both figuratively and literally.
Even the
Some of the experiences I’ve had through this community have changed how I see the world and myself in it. From Aids Life Cycle and the Urban Double, to Pier pressure and Crank Mob. Even just rollin up on the Amtrak, riding to Scoops and running into RBI and Canadienne, or Annie, PC, Trickmilla, Don, hell, whoever!!!
When you come to LA, not by bike, do you prefer train, bus, airplane or car, why?
I like taking the train. It’s so much more fun to kick back and read, or meet people, then sit in traffic. I do drive sometimes because of scheduling, or when a bunch of us need to go somewhere far, and I’m the one with the car.
If you didn't have your family business what do you see yourself doing career wise?
Man that’s tough. I am interested in alternative energy issues….transportation and urban planning…..community Wireless and digital inclusion…..I have a hard time picking one and saying, I will go in this direction.
Do you have any dreams you would like to share with us?
I have a dream….. oh wait, that’s been done.
Do you think Katie Kelly is as hot as all the bike guys in LA do, or is she more a sister figure?
I prefer the term awesometastic to hot, but sure.
I think Katie is a vibrant, beautiful woman with a sharp mind and giant heart. She and Tommy are probably more like siblings than me. For me, she is a solid friend.
What makes Ludi Christ the Mayor of San Diego?
Tommy is just one of those people with his finger on the pulse of stuff. He turns up places when you least expect it and seems to have a handle on whatever’s happening in SD. He’s an instigator for F.U.N.
What is your dream bike, do you have it already?
Not sure I have one dream bike. I love the red Ciocc and the Xtracycle I have now. I think I’d like either a titanium, or good old steel frame….Colnago maybe? But with a new drive train. Dura Ace, maybe High end Sram?
If you could only have one bike what would it be?
Bite your tongue!!!
Do you like your curly hair?
Yeah, I like it. I think I appreciate it more as it gets thinner.

Actually, that's one area where I think I've failed you all.
I've been having a such good ol' time up in LA, that I haven't stirred up much fun in SD, so you can come down here more.
I'll work on that in the new year.
