Calling all bicyclists!!!!
A meeting will be held to discuss making 1st and/or 2nd St a "Bicycle Boulevard".

Long Beach
A Bicycle Boulevard, sometimes called a bicycle priority street, is a street where all types of vehicles are allowed, but the roadway is modified as needed to enhance bicycle safety and convenience. Typically these modifications will also calm traffic and improve pedestrian safety.
In the past, The Home Owners Association in the area has said that bringing bicycle traffic to their street would also bring a "criminal element".
Are bicyclists criminals?

I really don't get what they are trying to do here. 1st and 2nd street already are great streets to ride on for what they are looking to do. All they really need is a little signage. I can see this thing getting a final bill that just doesn't justify doing this. The money can be far better spent putting "share the road" signs around LB. These signs can be found in SM, Pasadena, Venice, and a few other cities. Take a guess how many you'll find in LB............... that's right, zero! Putting up these signs around LB would offer alot better of a "bang for the buck" than some boutique bicycle boulevard in the rich neighborhood.
I might also add, if the city was to look for a bicycle boulevard that would actually be useful, they should work at making 4th street more bike friendly. It's currently a good avenue for bicyclist, could be made into a great avenue with just a little influx of cash. And it has the added benefit of actually going somewhere that more cyclist could use. That would be from downtown to CSULB.

I saw this, this afternoon, when the person first posted it. I was going to post it like leoleo did, but thought, i let the person know of this site, and post it themselves, just in case it got cancelled or they had to change the date. I emailed them and never heard back.
So take heed and confirm this meeting before you make your way to it, you never know?

I'm sorry but why are homeowners' associations invariably PACKS OF IDOTS. I mean seriously. Cheviot Hills, Hancock Park and now Long Beach are messing up my train and bike vibe. GRRRR.

I called this lady up over the weekend. She got back to me yesterday. I talked to her for awhile, and what she explained was that this proposal is based on the LB bicycle master plan. She doesn't know who posted this on craigslist. She stated she is a bicycle rider. That's at least a start for the city of LB. You know, having a bicyclist actually being part of the decision making process. I'll be going to this and will post back.

Just got back from this. The attendance was remarkable. Quite a number of cyclist in the crowd of about 100. Due to the number of home owners objecting to this, I seriously doubt this will happen. It's a historical area, ain't gona happen. Hell I was even against this. Seemed like the best consciences we would have on this is on 4th street and it was brought up on several occasions.
