So,
Just saw this twitter, from Lance Armstrong
"lancearmstrongMarch 7th. Hollywood. Reserve you spot now! First 100 people to email march7@livestrong.org gets a reserved spot in the ride"
reply
Aww, man! Two miles! Can we ride it twice?!
Or, like, 20x?
I e-mailed.

"On Saturday, March 7, 2009, Lance Armstrong, Nike and friends will gather for the launch of a global art project that addresses Livestrong’s battle against cancer and Armstrong’s return to the bike. Festivities kick-off with a 2-mile ride (beginning at 5:30pm) from The Children’s Hospital LA and end at The Montalbán theatre in Hollywood. At the theatre Lance will talk about his re-entry into professional cycling and officially announce this project with the help of several of the contributing artists.
Because of the capacity of the The Montalbán and permitting of the City streets, the total number of riders is limited."
Permits? Capacity?

Step 2. Pack Tight and isolate the GC Leader.
Step 3. Yell BREAK and sprint as fast as you can.
Step 4. Watch Lance accelerate past you INTO LA Hollywood traffic.
o btw, since this is about 2 miles, expect for heavy police presence. i remember a few caturdays ago, when we say the special olympics torch relay go by, the cops blocked out the streets, and the pack of runners.

All participants will go through a security check point. The ride will have a police escort as well, so people cannot jump into the ride en route.

Not sure if he'll get a direct message if he's not already following you. Maybe? But one benefit of just the regular ol @tweet is, it's less invasive. They show up in his list of @tweets, but not in his timeline of messages from people he follows. And then, if/when he does go, and he sees a (small) flood of people talking about this amazing tuff-stuff ride in Los Angeles, it might pique his interest, & he might check out the sites sent his way. At the very least, he will have heard of it should someone ask him about it at the event.
I'm thinking it might make for a good question at the press conference.

MASH SF went to AUSTIN to ride with LANCE in his HOME TURF
i think the whole MASH SF thing was more like lance went on a ride and MASH joined them, instead of the other way around.
point being, he is a contract man, and whenever he is wearing gear, on a bike, or doing anything cycling related he is (a) paid to do so (b) gets clearance from his sponsors/team/publicists
you factor in shitty la traffic, shitty la streets, and dozens of aggressive self-motivated riders.
however..... for those going to Austin, you should drop by Mellow Yellow, and drop off some wolfpack stuff there. try to get him out after his season is over (i dont think he's riding anything post TDF)

@duderina
Lance was kind of shielded from the horde by a couple of motorcycle cops. Kind of, but not really. Mostly, people just gave him space and let him lead the pack. At some point, one of the motorcycle cops got caught in the middle of the crowd and was accelerating and decelerating unpredictably, making people swerve even more. Yay for the po-lice. The fact that there were no crashes is probably a testament to the general skill level of the riders.
Also, lest my cynicism here lead anyone to think that I'm slagging on the ride, I should probably clarify that I thought the whole thing was pretty awesome.

He was asking questions about the tallbike and whether or not I trusted it. Then stilline asked if he wanted to trade bikes and he said he did consider it. Not too much was said. I got nervous because of the crowd and decided to drop back because I didn't want to crash. Plus those motorcycle cops or motorcycle rent-a-cops were fucking douchebags. I couldn't believe they were just riding straight through the crowd. At the corner of sunset/vine one of them stopped right in the middle of the street during the turn which almost caused me and a few others to crash.
