1987 Toyota Cargo Van - FOR SALE

I have this on craigslist but thought someone here might be interested. I have a 1987 Toyota Cargo Van for sale that I don't really want to part with but I live in an apartment and it's not real practical to keep two vehicles and pay insurance on both.
This thing is super awesome and oh so practical. It used to be owned by a bike shop up in San Luis Obispo, my guess is they were the first owners. I bought it off of a guy in Pasadena when it had 113k miles on it. The thing runs great and these vans go forever.
The tires are pretty much new and it comes with 3 extra tires which are in better than average shape.
I just had it smogged and it's good through Jan. 2011. The registration is good through Jan. 2010.
for more info on these vans, check out: http://toyotavans.net/forum/
Charlie has also owned a few of these vans and can tell you about them.
Here's the craigslist ad: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/1102181161.html I have it listed on there for $1600 which is what I paid but I'd sell it to a rider for $1400
Just imagine the possibilities.

Yeah I've been looking for one of these for awhile. I'm looking for a 5 speed though. Great vans, like you say. Hard to find them that low and in good shape. I just barely missed one that the guy wanted $700 and was in really good shape. Plus it was a 5 speed!
Good luck.

The ones that are really hard to find are the 4x4 versions. Good luck on your search Alan.

Well yeah, would love a 4x4 and 5spd, but I would settle for a 5spd.

it has A/C that blows cool but doesn't really cool down the van. probably needs recharged
there is no radio or speakers
it could stand to be painted or just finish the "$50 paint job" I started. Look up the "$50 paint job" for details, it's a method using rustolium and high density rollers. It could use about two more coats to finish up the job. I have 6 coats on there right now. painting is no fun I have 8 days of wet sanding, painting and prep work. No Fun I say.
one common issue with these vans is that the alternator goes out about every 30,000 to 40,000 miles or so. it was some kind of design flaw. You can find out more about that on the toyotavan website.
gets 21-24mpg
the battery could probably use a charge as well. it's been sitting for the last six months. I've been trying to drive it about once a week since January.

"shaggin wagon"
and the other one is what my one coworker always told me to get put on the side.
The guy who bought it seemed pretty cool. He's a limey cab driver in his late 40's, I'd say. He'll be driving it to NY, he said he has made the trip across the country 16 times.
I'll tell ya, I did it once in 40 hours from Raleigh, NC to here. That was 2002 and I don't want to do it that way again for a long time. If I drive across the country again, I want to take my time and do some exploring. Now that 40 hours was two people driving non-stop. Stopping for gas only, doing about 90 the whole way.
Now I'm trying to figure out why I just wrote this and realized I just got stoned.
