Just got home...bailed out at 2nd and Vermont after helping eddieboy with a broken chain and gf sick at home.
Great ride to that point..hopefully no drama after that.....no leaders, no route, made it to mid city, downtown, hoover, vermont, venice blvd., all over the place....that's what this ride needed and what it's supposed to be like.....people were ready to go at 7pm...music trailer held us up till 7:25 or so.....i handed out about 10 flyers to cars.....good pace, megaphones helped immensely....thanks wally and harry...they kept people going....music was great....i'm just way stoked for LACM tonight....hopefully the vibe can continue in future months....what do you guys think?
A ridiculously large group of people rode past my house (7th/Vermont) just now. What ride is this???
LACM?
Ah yes. That would make sense by the sheer size of the group and the way everyone was riding on the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic.
FAIL
I loved the longer route and one stop late in the ride.
Only problem was I drank a Fosters oil can before the ride and for about an hour before we stopped so a cop could give one of us a ticket, I had to go like a racehorse.
The circle of death at Hollywood and Highland was really cool.
Some kid bit it nasty 10 minutes into the People's ride. Ambulance came; he was bleedin' nasty from his DOME!!! Hope you're alright kid! Wear a helmet next time!!!
As I remembered it, LACM was never so rigid not to stop for restroom or a refreshment break, it just wasn't the first 10 minutes into it. We would ride for 45 minutes to an hour and then take a restroom/refreshment break. It sounds impossible or at least uncomfortable to ride that long without a break on a social ride.
I don't come out that often anymore, but the last LACM I went on was one of those lets go right over to Boogies Liquor and end over at Santa Monica and Western. THAT WAS TERRIBLE! Glad you are getting it back on track. Wish I could have been there. Hopefully I will work something out to where I can attend in the near future.
Whats with all the hatin RBI. Is there any reason to take a ride that you obviously don't like and bash it. Does it really effect you what happens on a ride you are not part of. Just don't be part of it if you don't like it.
It was a cool ride. My frist LACM and I got critically lost w/ the music guy and a couple of others then he went some where off by himself. then we met everyone up at Hollywood & vermont. Oh that circle of death on Holly & High was bad ass :) But it was a bummer since I didnt know any one and I was out there by myself
That was a lot of fun. I'm glad we rode so far and so long. A stop for peeing and re-hydrating would have been nice. Lots of people complained about that.
AWESUM ride last nite. I finally realized my dream of towing the Music Trailer. And that means I have to give serious props to Big Bike Dan for towing it all those years cuz that bitch is heavy! But I look forward to towing it any chance I get. So nice to go to all over while kicking out the jams. And although having a leaderless ride means sometimes really cool sections of routes get skipped becuz of a few Ridazz, the leaderless idea did let me steer it thru some of my favorite cuts, just not all of them. Last night it felt wonderful, as though LACM was restored to prominence. And if the people all want to cut out and go to the People's ride, then let them! I'm already there next month, at 7:30!
last nights LACM was back to its former glory, the way it was when i first started riding it years ago, keep it up. RBI will always find something to talk shit about, even if its not LACM or hes not even on the ride.
last night was pretty good.its so nice not to stop for beer right after getting warmed up.i went with the peoples ride after the stop in w.h-wood.no big deal .i was ready to peace out anyways.
ate at fatburger with mike walley.mmmmmmmmmgood.nomnomnom
one sugestion not a complaint: can we find other neihborhoods to ride thru? k-town-d-town-h-wood is a bit predictible.
@RBI do you even go on rides anymore?dont poop on a overall nice ride.and i know for sure i have seen you ride drunk aginst traffic more than once. just sayin
In regards to the LACM, I'm not sure what all the high fives are about. Sure we did some riding and avoided making a b-line to the liquor store, but look where we went. We still stayed in a 5 mile radius of the start. That's alot of LA that is left unexplored. What's up with the rest of LA? No likey?
It was great seeing some of good friends I haven't seen for awhile. I hope that wasn't a fluke. I look forward to riding with you guys next month.
Oh yeah, next time we roll to a liquor store, I'm giving the cashier a heads up on the thievery going on with you f****rs. You know who you are. There was so many of you it was impossible to fucking say anything. Anyways it's not really my job to stop you guys. You just aren't going to use me as cover.
I hope we agree to follow the music trailer next month. I'm all for keeping on riding after the other guys that want to do the people's ride split.
OK RBI listen up this is not LAFIXED so dont bring that shite here. You didnt even quote the other guy, if you are going to parrot other people do it on THEIR website not ours you fucking troll. I know you in real life, I have given you my treasured bars becuz I think you are cool in real life. But you need to know that it is definitely NOT COOL to constantly dog rides you don't go on, and bringing SOMEONE ELSE'S comments from a worthless hate filled place into the vastly superior Midnight RIdazz website.
RBI its hella annoying to read you hating on shit you didnt even go to, quoting a website I hate to on a website I luv! Are you just trying to piss us off?
Forgive me. I am so lost here. Just tell me why you posted someone else's thoughts (who didnt go on the ride either) about a ride you weren't on from some other website, on this one.
"Forgive me. I am so lost here. Just tell me why you posted someone else's thoughts (who didnt go on the ride either) about a ride you weren't on from some other website, on this one. "
thats why im trying to figure out as well. fuck LAFIXED. i hate that web site. they talk shit about MR, yet they show up on rides.
Thats a pretty wide generalization...
No worries, people. Ride your bike if you like to ride it. ride it somewhere else if a ride bothers you. just ditch the hate, though.
It was a cool ride. My frist LACM and I got critically lost w/ the music guy and a couple of others then he went some where off by himself. then we met everyone up at Hollywood & vermont. Oh that circle of death on Holly & High was bad ass :) But it was a bummer since I didnt know any one and I was out there by myself
awesome x3!!!
both critical mass and people's ride were equally great!
could of been a few more circling of intersections but i guess hwood and highland would do.
oh and btw im sorry to those people who mistakenly follwed me and my friends up that hill when trying to escape that police suv+ghetto bird,we were heading home towards hwood not where everyone else was going...
YES I am the music guy. I took off not knowing (well, I kinda knew) that 95% of LACM was gonna head back to the People's ride. I left at the urging of the Sheriff who was breaking up the crowd, and I thought I'd be followed but sorta leading a ride with music for 2+ hours is cool enough. Looking back, I think I know what worked on this ride, and what I will try to do next time. You can bet it will have a circle of death at H/H and one stop before the end at least. And I don't think we need to leave at 7, we can leave at 7:30 and still run a good ride. I think the days of carbon copy LACMs are behind us. Some of the places can stay the same, how we get there should be different. Demonstrating huge numbers of bikes as a force in mega populated areas is, to me at least, what C-MASS is all about.
Finally made it to LACM this month. I enjoyed all the riding, but didn't really dig the harshly regimented feeling that went along with the ban on stopping ever. That's probably why most of the ride left and headed to the People's Ride after our first and only stop after 9p.m. I don't care about drinking, but a water/pee break is really only human with 200 riders participating in a physical activity where we do need to be hydrated. Oh, and hydration leads to peeing.
Also, as for this ride being leaderless, I hardly think that's true, with certain people shouting out turns from halfway back and refusing to follow the 30 riders in front who make a turn...maybe that's why we got split up??
I'm glad we did a lot of riding, I'm sure there's plenty of other territory that we could cover (I was surprised that our dip into downtown was so brief and we looped straight back to hollywood), but I think it's counterproductive to try and cage LACM with a rote (ie., mechanical) set of rules.
At the end of it, I'm glad progress is being made...let's not stop here.
Definitely gonna be one stop sooner, just not 5 minutes after we start. Oh and no matter what we do next time, I mean we could draw and quarter an Oil Company executive during a Circle of Death at Hollywood and Highland while we drink free beer, and I think somebody would still come on here and complain about something.
yes alex i totally agree with you.a pee break might be nice.
h&h was so funny.what can those cars do?
and by the way to all who are still whining about start times;we didnt leave until after 7:30 last nite.decent time to be in rush hour traffic.
last month we didnt leave till 8:45 that made a huge difference.
Oh come now, that ride was completely dope. Cause I lead. Hahahaha. For about the first few couples miles..... I loved not stopping it pushed all the rider to BOP IT OUT!! Fuck yeah. Mmmmm My legs arent sore but I like the tingle. ^_^
First off, I thought that was awesome. It disintegrated in the end, but that is the nature of the beast.
Second, we should have stopped earlier. Probably at one of the grocery stores at the corner of 3rd and Vermont. But stopping at a liquor store with no bathroom makes no sense whatsoever. I didn't hear anyone complaining about needing a bathroom myself (though I certainly believe it) but I did hear A LOT people whining about liquor. I think it is sad that people can't ride an hour and a half with a beer.
Finally, people could certainly do a lot better about leaving their egos at home, myself included. More exploration (like the 1st half of the ride), less direction (like the second).
it was great just riding, but like others said, i would have liked an earlier stop to at least piss.
what RBI posted isn't untrue. i definitely witnessed some people riding into oncoming traffic, but not the whole pack. i kept telling people to stay right, but kids will be kids. shit, on highland, someone riding into oncoming traffic either hit a car, or ran into a car. i don't really know. all i know is that was a loud ass bang.
I left early, but I did notice a lot of stupid riding... but it isn't, and never has, been a big deal.
I have to say, if any of "our" rides are designed to cause havok on the streets, which includes halting "traffc", especially cars, etc. etc., it would [should] be Critical Mass. All our other rides are "social" rides, which implies it's benevolence. Critical Mass is an action, and action designed to interrupt. The way CM should be.
Last night's CM was not a FAIL, but a WIN. It's never been a leisure ride, it's not for the faint of heart, it's taking over the streets as a form of protest.
Which is to say CM is not for your backseat, arm-chair, activists.
It would have been nice to stop at least once--just not at the beginning. It also would have been nice to stick on the busy multi lane streets for more visability and not jam up so much as we did. I loved the bike trailered boom box but it seemed the group wanted to drop u in the beginning. Slow down guys! ..and a few guys need to learn how to read picture signs! ...fail
You can ride wherever but like 45min to 1 hour into the ride whoever is at front and sees a good spot for everyone to kick it, refuel, and pee, that should be it.
We're gonna do this the old school way.....ride thru Los Angeles the way LACM used to be,,,
Be ready to roll out at 7pm. (1/2 HOUR EARLIER THAN NORMAL)
You guys brought LACM back last month to its basics by RIDING and not sitting in a liquor store parking lot. Hopefully we can ride for an hour or so, get some water, use the restrooms, and get back on the road.
BRING WHATEVER YOU NEED WITH YOU ON THE RIDE INCLUDING EXTRA TUBES, A PUMP, TIRE LEVERS, FRONT AND BACK LIGHTS, ETC....
We will end up somewhere in Los Angeles County. If you have a cool place to take the ride, get in front and take us there. It's as simple as that.
----
whoever's in the front around 8pm or so should take the ride to a market or 7-11 or a park with restrooms .... to use the restroom and do whatever.
i just changed the wording and !@#$?.
There are a lot of great flyer ideas there and for info put WWW.CICLE.ORG as it's the most comprehensive site for promoting bike riding in l.a.
I would be curious if those kids are leading the pack again.
Barleye, I got your message. I'm going to be doing the LBCM tomorrow. It was suppose to be Laharr and me working on building this up. I haven't heard from him, even though I called him over a day ago now. Plus I didn't know it was actually still alive.
there was definitly alot of cuties out on the ride last night!!!!!!
too bad those damn kids got caught steeling 2 botttles of jack daniels. If its that serious take your broke ass home...there was enough to drink in the parking lot for all of that.
sorry back on trak.....still alot of cuties!!!!!!!!!hot asian, cute chik in racer back t, hot latina girl with a lip piercing....etc. allright im done!
not bitching at all cus i had a blast last night, just curious; i thought the ride goes wherever the riders in the front choose to go. at one point us in the front wanted to turn left to go to the grove: so the front of the ride turned left and the rest of you guys turn right...we u-turn and haul ass to catch up to you guys, then you fucking turn around and ride the way we tried turning in the first place! i thought the riders in the front decide where to go...
anyway i really enjoyed this ride compared to this last couple months, 45 minute liquor stops r kinda wack just buy your beer before the ride at ralphs or the liquor store up the street from wilshire/western
