"pirates"

I'm am so completely dis-trustful of the establishment media that as soon as I heard about the somali pirates I started to question the circumstances and the details..... this article confirms all my thoughts that I was not getting the whole story:
http://www.boingboing.net/2009/04/15/somali-pirates-versu.html
Makes me sympathetic to the "pirates." Sure, as the article says, these guys are not officially trained incorrupt-able service men, but they are out there taxing unscrupulous shipping companies for dumping waste on their shores.
One mans "pirate" is another man's "poor man's coast guard."

I thought this was going to be another thread about those Bike Pirate people who were calling us hipsters (US!!! HIPSTERS!!!) on their emo livejournal community thing.

Johann Hari, the author of that, has had a bunch of interesting pieces lately.
Check out this one on
Dubai
The problem is the views he presents are very one sided. He happens to present the side that people like us believe in, and which is rarely presented in the media, so we love reading this stuff. But a lot of his evidence is anecdotal, and he definitely selectively reports only things that support his view, so it's really hard to tell where the truth lies.
I tend to believe he's right, but when people report like that supporting the establishment or the right wing positions, we generally call them hacks.

I am serious about maybe leaving the US to become a pirate... I think eventually, it'll be akin to moving west to dig for gold.

lol I guess I cant really have a serious discussion when the word pirate is involved. +1 for the establishment media. anyway, I was just glad to be able to find another perspective...

its true. People lose there ability to reason when you mix bikes with politics. This guy on a beach cruiser at the valley tea party was upset about ACORN getting $500million stimulus and the military budget is shrinking. Anyway it sounds as if Obama is taking a move out of the faith based funding playbook. He is just giving it to those voting registrar fraudsters...(actually they may be eligible for it) instead of groups that are into the Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny.
