Anybody planning on riding that? I'm gonna register just to force myself to get a helmet. Speaking of helmets...
reply
I'm interested in riding, but not in paying, so let me know how to do that and I'm in.

Crash it.
It's easy.

Yeah. I ran the first annual marathon way back in 1986.
The big fee for running makes sense. Its expensive to put an event of this size on in the middle of a city.
The ride, however, is just tacked on as a cash cow. The streets are shut down, aid stations in place. People want to pay us $50 to cycle on the closed streets? Heck yeah!
They only offer a $5 discount (or something) for tandems too.
Its a huge cash cow.
That being said, I would hate to see this event die. So supporting it is a good thing. Long as you have a job and the bucks to spare.
Photo was taken during the 86 marathon.

I have a knee condition which dosn't allow me to run.
I need health insurance to get it fixed, so I am waiting and hoping I can run again sometime soon.
My last full marathon was Boston in 99.
If that is my last one, i'm fine with that.

a bunch of people are meeting at mcdonalds (1081 west martin luther king jr blvd) around 3 or so to ride it when the streets are all blocked off. then when they complete the 20 miles, they are going to sneak in with everyone else who paid for it and ride it again.

thats when all the streets are all blocked off. the only people out are the guys driving the tow trucks who are moving the cars that are still parked on the street.
