Heal Up Soon Mr. Rollers!

Send some love Mr. Rollers way, as he took a spill early Saturday morning in Silver Lake after The Ride With No Name. He suffered a broken collar bone and a nice abrasion/contusion to the forehead, but thankfully he was wearing a helmet, which cracked in two places protecting his head from what most certainly would have been much worse had he been without it.
Fortunately -- and in a miracle case of exquisite timing -- there was a good samaritan out at 3 a.m. who not only saw Rollers zip by, but immediately thereafter heard the spill and was instrumental not only in quickly summoning paramedics but also in providing a place to store his bike while they took Rollers to the hospital.
There are angels out there folks.
I'm glad for several things. That my good friend Rollers wasn't injured more severely, that a compassionate soul was there to come to his aid. and that his bike emerged with little more than a slightly bent rear rim and scratches on the brake levers.
Get well soon Rollers!

DEFINITELY! Heal up Mr. Rollers we need you out there on a bike inspiring us all. was so bummed to see a big ole gash in your head and your arm in a sling! wear your helmet folks. Mr. Rollers did and it apparently saved him from a major head injury. cracked helmet...

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear this. I'm also glad it wasn't worse ( not to downplay your injury, it's nasty)
Here's some love...you were looking fit as a fiddle on the ride. Darn!
Take care as sometimes concussion symptoms are not immediate. I hope they went over all that with you at the ER...

Mr. Rollers said the guy that helped him is a bartender in the L.A. area.
A few of us were talking about doing a ride to his bar when he's healed up and fill his tip jar with $$$$

Thanks for the love & support everybody.
Far better to crack your helmet than your head>>>>>
I was briefly unconscious after crash and have a memory blank for about a minute or so before it happened. The last thing I recall is getting to the top of the hill, then I was picking myself up off the street and thinking I was going to complete my ride home.
I was given a CAT scan at the hospital and remembered what Yogi Berra once said, "X-rays of my head showed nothing". I don't ever preach to anybody about wearing a helmet, but I'll say in this case I extremely thankful to have been wearing mine.
I've got some cuts, bumps and road rash in addition to the broken collar bone, but it's all gonna heal soon. I'm bummed to be missing being out riding - I was planning on leading the 3rd annual "mr rollers east to the beach" next Sunday, but I'll be back soon.
In the meantime, ride safe everybody.

Aw man Rollers, I wanted to ask you about the sling on Saturday, but I was running around everywhere. Terrible story, glad to know you're okay. Another story we should all learn from about helmets. Heal up well, Rollers!

It was good to see you out and about yesterday Rollers. This just goes to show that accidents can happen at anytime. As I'm sure you must have been on this road before. That helmet looked really messed up too. I can't image what you would have been like without it. I'm sure we wouldn't have seen you last night if you didn't have a helmet on.
Have a speedy and full recovery. We'll be missing you on the road.

And yes, I will be frequenting the bar where the good Samaritan tends from now on. Which one is it? Who is the tender?

Wow, I'm definitely starting to believe that helmets make all the difference in the world. It sucks that another rider has to go down for a lot of us to realize how much of a difference maker they really are. Heal up... and glad to know it wasn't anything more serious than what it was.

The bartender (I think Rollers said his name was Simon) works at a restaurant called The Village Idiot at 7383 Melrose, Once Rollers mends and feels ready to saddle-up again I'd totally be down for a ride there to celebrate him and the samaritan.
Check it: what makes the guy coming to Rollers' aid even more of a miracle than him just being there out on the porch at the time Rollers spilled, is that he was house-sitting the restaurant owners' house (which is next door to mine). If his employer hadn't been away for the weekend, chances are Rollers would've been on his own -- and that freaks me out since I was fast asleep a couple doors away from where he went down.
If you want I can email my neighbors with a heads-up as to what's being preliminarily planned -- if nothing else to make sure we go on a night that the barkeep is there.

Get well Mr. Rollers.
There's truth to misery loving company. I crashed on my mountain bike Saturday morning. Fractured my pelvis, and hurt my ribs ( pops when I move). No bike for at least 6 weeks. Bang my head pretty hard but I was wearing a helmet, coulda been worse.
it's going to be a long summer.

Just picked up my x-ray from the hospital (they give it to you on a CD these days, figures) and while I'm no radiologist, this doesn't look anywhere near as bad as many that I've seen. >>>>>
Feeling a little better every day; less sore and the road rash is healing well. I'm seeing an orthopedist on Friday for a more detailed assessment.
Thanks again to all for the good wishes.

Mr. Rollers! Yowch, ow.
I've never broken a collar bone (knock wood ... ), but I have broken a scapula. The thing about bones all up in your shoulder are, you can't really set them. You just have to line them up as close to right and then ... just ... wait. You have doctors. You know this already.
Anything we can do to make the waiting easier? I did crossword puzzles as though my life depended upon them. I read a lot. I drew some, and I wrote some. I wish I'd drawn & written more, as it was a pretty wacky time in my life. I bet you've got some stories.
