VALLEY BIKERY

SO today Ayla Stern, Sarah Danya and Vinh ? got together at Balboa Park in The Valley and set up a make shift co-op similar in function to The Bikerowave, The Bike Kitchen and The Oven. The other 3 co-op's serve their respective communities very well but The Valley does not have anything. THis is a co-op in infancy with no permanent address in The Valley - yet!!
Anyway with the help of the trailer for music and Ayla making announcement in both english and spanish, they drew quite a crowd. Several bikes had flats fixed, brakes adjusted, seats raised and many young and not so young were helped with their bikes!
It was a long warm day there but the highlight of the day was watching Ayla teach a 7 year old girl to fix her own flats with a little help with the final tightening of nuts and bolts. When the rear wheel was being replaced the girl's father remarked that some of the parts belonged to the training wheels. At that point we explained that training wheels actually hinder learning balance and maybe she should try out her bike without the trainers. After a little guidance we managed to get the little girl to cycle to her father without the aid of the unnecessary extra wheels!!!! You should have seen all the smiling faces!!!!!!
Well done you guys for starting THE VALLEY BIKERY and I hope it finds a permanent home but the mobile unit made several people happy today....
Best of Luck,
Harry
ps.. we had a impromptu ride after the close of business and were joined by several valley riders.

Congratulations on your new venture. I hope the valley kids can make this into a permanent thing. Was it posted here. I am sure you can get more volunteers to help out.

I always thought the busway stop at reseda where they built that stupid panini cafe would have been a good bikery/first aid spot for the orange line. Maybe someone can talk to the managers for a little creative marketing in exchange for solid location? Or we can wait til their seed capital runs out and they give up their lease. Prime spot IMHO.

I think it should be more east. Bring it really close to a major transit hub like the North Hollywood station.

Check out the location I was talking about. Pretty much dead center of the orange line and literally steps away from a stop. Open space, low-key, safe area, moderate bike traffic between west and mid valley.
Google maps this address and street view that shit:
18510 Topham St, Los Angeles, CA, United States
Perfecto.

I could care less about having a bike co-op next to all that trash.
Ideally, I'd have it next to or very close to a well established bike shop like Athena's on Ventura & Bike Factory on Woodman or all the other bike shops out there.
Having it next to a bike shop and close to a major transit hub just works.

This Limeyfly guy - who the fuck is he? He's always flying helicopters N shit, acting like he's so cool but I'm sick and tired of it! Well let me tell you something - anyone can fly a helicopter - but can you fly two . . . AT THE SAME TIME?
Yay for the bikery!!

As I mentioned previously, check out the "The Alley in the Valley" behind Baskin Robbins at Reseda and the Orange Line. They gotta be cheap.
A brick and mortar place would really be nice to hang out at.
Sorry I didn't show up sunday, I'll just lurk from now on, my family takes up too much of my time.

put new wheels and wider tires on my main ride tonite and of course the wheels are wider as well, it got too dark to mess with adjusting my v-brakes, so I might just show up on my beach cruiser, oh well.

thanks for all the location tips :) having a brick and mortar space is def one of our top goals, but we can't do that until we have some money. So one of our first priorities right now is to fundraise and ideally have enough money by the end of the year. Also, we might have a partly donated and shared temporary location in the very near future... stay tuned.... ;)

The Bikery doesn't have anywhere near enough to cover that expense, plus no truck for pickup.
If anyone would like to get on that, it does seem like a great deal.

We definitely welcome any help people want to give. It's a community thing, not a private gig. I just thought that as the treasurer of the Bikery, I should let everyone know that we will NOT be pursuing that particular lead as an organization.
