What about all those riders who went down near the train tracks? Any word on their injuries? I know some of them probably had too much to drink too.

other reasons people crashed last night is cause
1. They cant hold their line (constantly)
2. Going downhill means not slowing down.
3, Or in the case of my friend john Mechanical Failure.

In addition, there are just too many riders out there whose only goal is to get fucked up, have no clue how to ride in a group, and exhibit no consideration for anyone else. It's just pure immature selfishness.

Seriously hope Krista is OK. Kudos to the many Ridazz who stopped and helped her.
My pet peeve? Ridazz cutting in/weaving in and out through the center of the pack to get up to the front. Please keep to the left!
Mr. Rollers has a point.

Yes, but part of the problem is riders staying too far to the left, i.e. the wrong side of the road. Then along comes a car in the opposite direction or the road narrows and all those people suddenly have to squeeze over to the right, which just creates more potential for accidents.
My advice (which I'm sure will only fall on the ears of the already converted):stay to the right, don't weave, don't race up through the pack for no good reason.
Done for now . . .
Sorry to hijack the thread - get well Krista!

Start curbing the drunks! Slowly ride up to them; as soon as you're shoulder to shoulder; lean into them; leading them to the curb.
Just remember to protect your bike. As you lean into them, push your bike away from theirs. This should get their attention. It funny how many people panic if you ride close.

one's age has nothing to do with one's maturity level. it's not like i'm an alcoholic, what i was saying was that i can drink a 40 and not be wasted. it's easy for me, i'm 6 feet. dont talk down to me just because you're older than me, here age means nothing and we should be treating everybody with respect.

You really didn't understand what i meant do you?
what i said was, regardless if you're drinking, thats your own stupid perogative, don't post it on the fucking internet that you're 15 and drinking on rides. all that does is make the community look bad if one of us who happens to be over 21 is buying you alcohol. Yes, theyre quite the idiot to be doing this, but do you really want that to be what destroys this community? that you needed to brag that you somehow managed to get alcohol?

Age or height have nothing to do with one's ability to tolerate alcohol. I've witnessed 6' guys drunk under the table by 5' 100 lb women.

well, i apologize for making this community look bad, if you really feel i did that. teens drink. i could've brought it from home. you're the one who implied people on the ride buy it for me. i wasn't bragging, i was correcting the idea that a 15 year old cant handle a 40 and a bike ride. i didn't want to cause any bullshit. but it is unnecessary to talk to me as if i'm stupid. i dont think one post on a topic not everyone will read will make a big enough difference in the public's perception of this community to matter. most people are drunk anyways. we're all good people. that's what should matter.

The kid makes a good point - It should always be about respect, whether online or on a ride. But I agree there's no need to bring attention to your age and how well you handle your alcohol consumption.

Where I come from you earn respect. some 15 yr old should respect their elders. When you become an adult and are able to grab a gun and defend this country then talk shit. You act like you deserve respect in the community no matter what age. Bullshit. You're ass should be learning and listening.

How many 15 yr olds would be sitting on the curb drinking a 40 if they were by themselves?

I saw a few of the accidents on Friday night. Shit, I even almost ate it once.
I don't think people being fucked up was the main reason. This was simply a dangerous ride. If I wanted to map out a dangerous route for a ride designed to cause the most crashes << note to self post a Crash Ride>> this would be it. Dark streets, rail tracks, sudden narrowing, downhills with turns at end, etc. This would be it.
Fun ride and challenging.

Give my a fucking break. Dangerous route? Most of the streets in LA are shitty to ride on, and if you can't ride over train tracks then you should stick to the bike path or the velodrome. Either way if you want good roads and no train tracks then you are going to be riding in circles.

Sack I said it was a fun ride. I enjoyed it. My point is street riding caused the accidents I thought not drinking in this case. As for me sticking to the velodrome, I've put more miles riding in la traffic in the last month than you have in the last year.

Start curbing the drunks. They have no regard for anyone's safety. All the polite methods have been exhausted, time to take action. So be proactive and take them out, you'll be doing the whole group a favor.
They take DUI driver to jail and all. Take a drunk rider out for a few weeks.

If someone threatens the safety of you and your friends, wouldn't you do something? If a driver in a car rides erratically on the freeway, wouldn't you call 911? If the same driver tried the same through a crowd of cyclist, wouldn't you do the same thing? Why would a drunk cyclist be the exception?
Someone who drinks excessively then rides is a danger to everyone. In their state, you cannot reason with them. Everyone prefers that MR self-police. You can disable their bikes but try that when they're riding. Curbing is extreme but it is an option. Not riding is not an option. I don't look for drunks and it would take something extra ordinary for me to react. But sometimes a very strong reaction is needed to get a message through.

Once I stopped to help a dood with a flat. The guy was so fucked up, I quickly learned that I was going to be do all the work. I just as quickly learned that the best thing to do was make an excuse for not being able to fix his tire, and get the fuck outa there. Which is what I did!
