I'm planning on getting me a Glock 17 in 9mm for riding the sketchy territories up here in the desert.
Downtown LA and vicinity isn't that bad where I'll need a firearm, too many people and lots of places to fall back to.
In the desert though, I've got meth-heads, kids of OC-transplants that think they own the road, and all the ex-cons that LA County judges evicted from LA County.
In addition, not too many places to hide, or fall back to.
Plenty of open space, and the stop-lights/signs are far enough apart to where a vehicle could easily jump to warp-speed, either to escape you, or hit you.
The Victor Valley has become the dumping ground of the state, so I feel if anyone needs to pack, it's up here to fend off the various levels of ingrates that have recently decided to call the desert, "home".
Oh, and by the way...I know you started this thread to piss people off.
Either way, its a horrible place to come looking for advice on firearms related topics. After all, this is a [liberal] bicycle forum.
I also wouldn't recommend for ANYONE to carry a firearm unless they know what they are doing. Shooting another human being is a life altering situation for both parties...its not a fucking game. Not to mention you live in California, so you are expected to abide by its laws.
You got people deciding on your rights all the time. You think you should drive a POS car that pollutes cause you think you have a right? That's just one example.

I think you should have a right to carry a firearm out in the desert, where you live. After all that's where all the zombies are!
What I want to start packing is a really loud noise maker. Something to use to really make it clear that I am not cozy with cars passing me at mock ten two feet away from me. Phantom lights that project several feet to my sides would also be rad too, not sure how that could be achieved. I'd also like to take a martial arts class, mainly just for the fitness.
The thing about a gun and a bike is the extra weight.
As for carrying a gun on a ride, you must ask the question;
When will you need it and what will you need it for?
I always like the idea of snub nose 38 with an enclosed hammer.
Perfect to keep in your jacket pocket if you are getting robbed you can reach into your jacket like you are getting your valuable for the the robber and shot right through the jacket at the asalint with no hammer jam up.
But seriously that crank mob thread is prefect for those who might consider carry a weapon or gun on a ride. Now you know who not to let know that you have it.
Just think, you come accross someone who is in harms way and might benefit from you pulling out your firearm. You know they would call 911 on you. In that situation you better let them call 911 on the person who is about to harm them.
Better they be carried by 6 then you judged by 12.

In all serious you where to carry gun around with you while riding. I would suggest a short barrel semi auto shot gun on a sling around your back. Or but in a holster connected to your bike, like the motorcycle cops have these days.

If you consider a revolver, I recommend you get it chambered in .357 Mag. Then you can shoot both .38 Special & .357 Magnum from the same gun.
.38 Special + P will put a world of hurt on a bad guy without all the .357 Magnum recoil or muzzle flash.
I personally always liked the idea of an exposed hammer on both revolvers or semi's...but subdued and hammerless designs have their legitimate use (less chance of snagging on clothes).
el spanard, I have found in my life that it is rare that you can actually categorize someone one way or another. People have so many different views depending on the subject manner. I have never found anybody who views that can be fully classified in the classic stereotypes that go with those terms
Those terms (conservative and liberal) are used to classify and divide people. Don't let them divide us.....we are all individuals and all the better for talking and listening to each other. It better to listen to someone you might not agree with then someone you do, so much more you can learn about a subject that way.

We road through some of the so called bad areas of SFV.
Van Nuys, North Hills, Sylmar, Pacoima, San Fernando,
and North Hollywood. Did'nt feel unsafe without a gun.

Even assuming for the sake of argument that what you say is true in a way that is not droolingly simplistic, there are a great number of ways that public policy toward education could be adjusted to address the problem. To advocate eliminating school as though it were the only way to improve the way knowledge and culture are inculcated in children, then, is so utterly ridiculous that it pretty much marginalizes itself (thank God).
