Ridazz Armaggedon
Thread started by
tortuga_veloce at 10.14.09 - 10:10 pm
I have been listening to a lot of the chatter regarding the Jared Leto incident, and I must say that I've been changed in my opinion of the entire matter. Having been at the event myself, I have come to several realizations:
1. the ridazz community is largely a top-down organization, with several small groups of leaders and charismatic individuals.
2. many rides offer great deals of disclosure, while recently the trend has been towards giving less and less information about the routes, etc.
3. Ridazz encourages all cyclists to join, but expects at least some degree of conformity.
4. Ridazz encourage good behavior and respect for authority and
private property.
5. The majority of Ridazz are left-leaning to anarchists
6. Ridazz will follow a ride leader into any neighborhood, without question
While we, the Ridazz community largely take this for granted, I was struck with a sudden realization of the pattern that has been right in front of my face for the past year: Midnight Ridazz is ushering in the New World Order. Through our willingness to follow, our love for Obama and our love of helping others, our good natures will be used against us to turn us into slaves.
That's right. Midnight Ridazz is a sign of the Apocalypse. While I was earning my hundred dollars Iast sunday, I witnessed many of my friends taking and, in turn, giving orders to us. We knew who to look to and we did as we were told, riding up and down a stupid hill over and over again. The powers that be were simply demonstrating how easily we are controlled. And you know what? All it took was befriending a few influential ridazz, and
promising them and their friends a little payment.
sexy was right.

I dunno, we sort of have to play by a set of unwritten rules to maintain that thin-line between "organized-parade" status, and a unofficiated group of hooligans.

The First approached the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"
The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, "Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"
The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"
The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he;
" 'Tis clear enough the Elephant

Which is to say:
1) It is worth considering that your view of the Ridazz community may be a fair bit more limited than you think.
2) You are being unbelievably paranoid.

On another note, there are some things that people put too much deep thought into.
There are more pressing issues to be concerned about, like ammunition shelves being emptied and water shortages due to lawn-hungry tract home owners.

Is this another... "Fuck, why did I go the shoot? Fuck, fuck, fuck,... I better come up with something insightful and or profound... or else... fuck... could I have been just that....?"
---The only thing about the post is how you pointed out the obvious, without really offer more than... so this must be the Apocalypse.
(enter pic of a slippery slope)
1. the ridazz community is largely a top-down organization, with several small groups of leaders and charismatic individuals.
--No, not true... is it? Shit.... come on... your fucking with us on this one, right?
2. many rides offer great deals of disclosure, while recently the trend has been towards giving less and less information about the routes, etc.
--fascinating
3. Ridazz encourages all cyclists to join, but expects at least some degree of conformity.
--Well I'll be damned... the veil of ignorance has fallen
4. Ridazz encourage good behavior and respect for authority and private property.
--NO they dont. Do they? Im having a real existential crisis right now
5. The majority of Ridazz are left-leaning to anarchists
--because most of use have longer right legs. But you must be only talking about some people... because most ridazz dont know what they really believe in. Give them about 8 more years, then they'll settle into a comfortable depression, with a hint of a jaded outlook on, fuck it, everything.
6. Ridazz will follow a ride leader into any neighborhood, without question
--you are right.
IN the spirit of your post, Ill will add another obvious point
7. Ridazz are little uncertain about commercializing their "culture", so some suggest to refrain from selling it... for the moment.

Im still fascinated how people regret their OWN decisions, and somehow have to try to find ways to throw EVERYONE under the bus. What ever happened to being a grown up, and just saying: "I couldnt resist going, and I failed to live up to my personal expectations. Im sitting at home beating myself up for it, and the only thing that helps me at the moment, is trying to push everyone else into my moral dilemma. I should post my results."
"Through our willingness to follow, our love for Obama and our love of helping others, our good natures will be used against us to turn us into slaves."
--ONLY IF YOU LET PEOPLE TURN YOU INTO SLAVE... (note: La Duderina was smart enough NOT to go). Plus I thought it was all about $$$$. Im confused again.
"We knew who to look to and we did as we were told, riding up and down a stupid hill over and over again. The powers that be were simply demonstrating how easily we are controlled."

That empty feeling you're feeling is the last of your dignity slowly leaving your body. The exodus started with the ride. Proceeded with flaunting numerous times that you were feed more than a P&J sandwich, while knowing that you're fellow ridazz were not. To finally chastising someone for their incorrect calculations (wrongly so), while demonstrating your lack of ability in correctly figuring out how much you were to be paid for your 11 hours of work.
But take heart, you had little dignity to begin with!

this makes me laugh. have you ever been on a movie set before? wow.
if you think MR is a sign of the Apocalypse, dude, you need a freakin' vacation! you to need to leave LA for awhile and go experience LIFE in other places, countries, cities. bring your bike. read a little. take some history courses.
but first remove your head out of your ass and stop preaching shit you can't even stay on topic for throughout your post. you were all over the place.
you went to the video shoot - you liked it - you're just putting this shit up here so you feel better about being on these threads, because this is where you exist! you only exist here on the threads. i bet you are on the threads of MR more than you are your bike. and that, tortuga_veloce, is sad.

I don't really see the big deal with this guys analyzes. Yes, the apocalypse is kinds of over kill and people have been saying that since the beginning of time. The guy just had some meditative time and this is just his take. There is lot of truth in this (especially that I'm right).
My big question is, what the hell did you do to these people to make them attack you like this?
This has to have more to do with you tortuga_veloce, then what you wrote.

Here's my take on this. You had between 100 and 250 riders, most of them have done MR rides before. MR is known for it's left-leaning political views but also for their drinking, smoking, party atmosphere. MR riders are also known as disciplined and experienced riders.
There were like two crashes, right? No one was seriously injured. In the course of two nights within a cumulative time-frame of 24-26 hours. Riding alongside some people who have not ridden a bike since they were 12 yrs old.
I bet the production crew were biting their nails through the entire shoot because of the size and difficulty in directing so many bicyclists.
What was proven is that as a group (or organization, collective..or whatever you want to call it) you can organize, take care of yourselves and others, and ride in a professional and disciplined manner. In the end, you gained their respect and next time they see a large bike group on the road, they will know who you are.
You win. MR wins. All bike riders win.
