I had posted a ride theme and I have a route, but I decided that the ride theme wasn't very appropriate. I have yet to decide if I want to still do the 2nd Friday because I don't really have a theme anymore.

I'm also not really partial to a birthday theme because I think that the ride should have a good theme for all of Midnight Ridazz, not just a fraction of people that know us.

1. I may or may not lead the ride, I haven't made the decision yet.
2. If I do lead the ride, how do you even know if I'm stopping at parking lots or not?

Is anyone willing to step up and do the ride? If so, please feel free. If not, I'll still consider it, but it's kind of hard with not having a theme and it being the day after my birthday.
How About Midnight ridazz presents the Birthday ride!!! Everyone celebrates their birthday on the 11th! Cake, presents, Kiddie games and party favors!!!
I like the thread....since meeting palucha in person, i get a kick out of reading his posts....the kid's way cool....not a bad polo player either.
ok back on topic...how about the "positivity ride" being it's on 9/11??? can we go a month with out a dress up theme? we'll just really try to call out b.s. on rides...like a zero tolerance for b.s.? just a thought....

haha..no...we did lose thousands of people in the 9/11 attack...i'm just throwing it out there....let's just ride and have fun. staying to the right, no liquor stops, no tagging, no stealing, just everyone watching out for each other and maybe everyone should make it a promise to formally meet 5 new ridazz......just being good people on bikes.
i'm hearing what i'm writing and not sure if people will dig it or not..

Why give so much importance to 9/11. There have been countless terrorist acts through out history do we really need to focus on them as well?
I say we have an open ended theme. Dressing up is fun. For those who dont enjoy it can just enjoy not lookingfoolshish (even though thats what everyone is aiming at).

Maybe at some point we can stop and have a moment of silence for the lives effected and lost on 9/11.
I'm liking tarsis' birthday themed ride! I love kid party games! Pin the tail on the donkey, duck duck goose, red rover, cake (tall can) walk... The possibilities are endless!
Or Braydon's firefighter ride! It's not only a tribute to FDNY but for all the awesome people that are trying to stop LA from becoming an ashtray!

How is the decision made to create this ride? Is it made by the top brass of MR or do the people decide? Cause I like the Birthday idea. But I don't know how the system works.
How about ride with another ride theme (has this been done)?
Anyhow you can do something like:
Midnight Ridazz: The Crank Mob Ride
You can dress up like your favorite Crank Mob character, have a contest or something... 2 hour stops to dance without knowing how to dance. A lot of florescent stuff.
I want an honest opinion. What do you guys think of the idea "Midnight Ridazz: Old People Dating"? or what do you think of "Midnight Ridazz: Picnic In the Park"? I have a route and will be willing to make spokecards and do a ride if the theme is right.

People, just because I'm out of the area doesn't necessarily mean I stay out of the loop.
I stopped caring about what goes on up here about, three years ago.
I'm sort of like a business that outsources my thoughts to out-of-town companies while maintaining an estate in an area that deteriorates.
With all these ideas being thrown around at the last minute, why not the
"Midnight Royal Rumble Ridazz Hell-In-A-Cell Match!!!!"???
Each faction comes in their own theme and the ride culminates in a naturallly-occurring, or man-made mudpit somewhere in the vicinity of downtown.
It goes from clean-ride, to down and dirty mud-fight in less than two hours!!!!!

So if no one steps up, can we make it an unbirthday surprise party? I mean, like nobody thinks that the ride is actually going to happen, so they just go out riding by themselves, disappointed that everyone forgot their unbirthday. Then as everyone is rounding a corner, everyone else suddenly shows up and shouts "surprise!"
The only snag is getting 500 people to all round the same corner at once and surprise one another, but other than that, it would totally work.
Dress up as your favorite athletes: Venus Williams, Terrell Owens, OJ Simpson, Pacman Jones, Kobe Bryant, Pete Rose, Michael Vick, Tanya Harding, Wayne Gretzsky, Tiger Woods.... etc.
If no one else is already on it, I'd can plan a route and scout it tonight. (probably eastward and southward, it would go).
Does anyone else already have a route in mind? If no one speaks up by 10pm, I'll just go and do it. I'd be leaving from Pioneer Chicken at 10:30 real-world time, in case anyone wants to join in the scouting.

For anyone interested in the name of this ride, it comes from the way Chicago Critical Mass runs. Here's what Borfo had to say about it in an old thread:
" I just finished Cicago Critical Mass last night and it went off without a hitch. there were many different types of people from all over town. The police was supportive and helped cork the streets in the major areas of downtown Chicago. The major of Chicago is in full support of Critical Mass and cyclists rights. Chicago CM follows a route that changes monthly and everyone is given route slips if they request it. There are still no "leaders" but there are core people who guide the ride along.
They have a phrase that everyone says to onlookers and drivers to either alleviate tention or to just be friendly and that phrase is, "HAPPY FRIDAY!"
Everybody uses Happy Friday while riding on Chicago Critical Mass. you can see how that simple phrase changes the expression on peoples faces from frowns to big smiles."

this was an awesome ride.... may have been quite long (all the way to florence/605 freeway in downey?!?!?!) but i got to check out neighborhoods i've never been in before and i had a great time.
All the trolling on this thread was such a waste of energy, I wish instead of trolling one of them would have stepped up and done someting instead of wasting time up to the last minute.
Thanks Chynna for stepping up at the very last minute and pulling this one off. Pretty hot ride. I got some good miles in but it was really flat. Weather was perfect and I'm glad we went through cities where po-po didn't hassle us at all.

me and my homie got 35 miles last night from echo park and back. we were with the group all the way till we made a couple U-turns on bandini towards the end and we just decided to head back from there (bandini-37th-alameda-olympic-santee-8th-main-2nd-glendale-bellevue-echo park).
seriously though, why make route cards if you aren't going to follow the directions at all? i have friends that got lost and followed the route card to try and catch up and got totally lost in the ghetto
We showed about 25 miles til the turn around in Downey, but my friends & I separated from the pack when the group seemed to get lost, and got back to the park in 28miles. (We took Cesar Chavez...)
So total, it was about a 55-60 mile ride.
It was definitely fun (MY 1ST MIDNIGHT RIDE!), but extremely long...for me. This was my first time back on the bike in 3+ years!
Now to go ice my butt from sitting on a barely existent road-saddle for 6 hrs...

As everyone was rolling away from that endless flat repair stop on Bandini, I realized that I had a flat. A couple people offered to help, but I had all the tools and knew my way home, so I told them to stick with the group. Vernon is a pretty safe (though smelly) place to be alone at 3am. I hope the rest of the ride was without incident.
Seriously, one of the best MR rides eva! Any time we roll east it's a blast for me. I like the roads, people and the lack of drama in that direction. I also liked the element of surprise, such as getting off track and rolling 37-38 miles. Granted it was tuff for some peeps cause it was their first ride and they were riding a MTB, but we stuck together and made sure no one got dropped. I ended up helping this chick on her MTB and I'm sure she appreciated the break.
I totally dug that night and glad I made it out there. Thanks for putting this together Chynna, and whoever else helped out. I think Borfo helped, but not sure.
I'm glad the ride was enjoyable! I think it went extremely well, and for any faults or mistakes that were made, you can't really expect things to run perfectly for such a last-minute ride. Ideally, there was so much I'd like to have done, but overall I'm glad I brought the ride to a new part of town and I'm glad so many people enjoyed themselves.
