We're going to NY!! i really have no details about BIKE KILL... but it usually happens at the end of October. I am going from the middle of Oct till the beginning of Nov. RIDAZZ TRIP!!!

Beautiful, I'm from Lake Placid which is closer to Canada than the city. But where I'm from it can be chilly, overcast, with flurries late in the month but there is something to be said about a cool breeze signaling the coming winter.
It will probably be warmer in the city. The monthly average temp is apparently about 55, which isn't bad in a jacket.

I miss New York and now you've got me thinking it's time to go back for a visit.
Eric, October weather should be a little on the nippy side but really nice. But the heat and humidity of the summer should be long gone by October. The Fall Colors usually descend through New England around Columbus Day so that should give you an idea of the weather. I think October is an almost perfect time of the year to be in the City.
I'm guessing but a train to New York after meals will be pretty expensive -- and long. For me, trying to get sleep on a trip like that will be a real challenge. It's really expensive if you get a sleeper on the train. I took a train to Seattle a few months ago and I don't think I got much sleep at all.

When my son was in middle school, a few of his classmates rode the Lewis and Clarke on their bikes and pulled all their stuff on BOB trailers. They started in Viginiia and headed west to pick up the trial and rode to Oregon. It only took them four months so if a few 8th and 9th graders could do it, I'd say go for it. I'll try a faster form of transport myself.

We both have city beater bikes in Brooklyn and have a place to stay, but It would be cool to sublet a loft in Bushwick or something.

That's pretty cool I didn't expect so much interest. I'm attempting to go all of October, just not sure when I'm going to go home to Lake Placid or how to get there. There is a fully furnished sublet in Williamsburg, starting 10/01 but it's two months and 1400, I'm considering it anyway.

I've been missing NY a lot, and feeling wanderlust, so I'm going anyway, mid-September, to sublet from a friend for a couple to few months. I could definitely have a couple people stay there, as my friend loves guests and I love you and want MR in NY!

Jet Blue has tickets for $299 round trip.
I suggest buying a cheap bike there because it will be cheaper than flying yours out, and when it gets stolen you won't be too bummed.
Kel and I got ours for $75 each, and we just left them there on the roof of a brownstone in Brooklyn for the next time we visit. (It's my buddy's place)

Mixte and myself will be taking the 3day train ride NY back to LA, the ticket was 150 one way. Bike transport not included, but is very easy and won't cost much according to the Amtrak website. Not much info yet.
RIDAZZ REPRESENT! This is a good chance to show another scene what LA is about, why its so good in LA. If you don't know, the majority of other bike scenes are typically very clique-ish and don't have the ability to make complete fun of themselves and relax and wear dumb ass costumes and awesome haircuts and draw all over their bodies and party til breakfast like LA does. Believe me, I am seeing it all over the country as we speak! Come and get us LA!

The cool thing about Long Island is that it's pretty much 100 miles long. Perfect for a century. We can camp out at montauk and take the train back into the city the next day. It'll be a beautiful ride that will take us through BK, Queens, the south shore of LI, the south fork, through the hoods of LI (AMITYVILLLEEEE!, yes....like the movie).
If anyone would be interested, let me know. I can give you a good tour.

Anyway, if you don't have free lodging, you should all stay at the hostel I'll be working at in Brooklyn. It would be a sweet takeover. It's currently $25/night, but I'll let you know what deals I can figure out once you know how many want to partake.
Oh yeah...I'll be a Rida in NY as of next Tuesday morning. I'm avoiding full frontal exposure to the reality of missing LA so terribly my throat hurts, so no formal goodbyes are in order. I'm counting on you to take the leap of financial faith and come out to make this a mind-blowing BIke Kill. Plus, I'll be back before you know it.

Just wanted to let you all know I'm at the hostel now, and it's rad. Unfortunately, there aren't any deals I can cut you because it's pretty popular and they can demand a lot per bed. The going rate right now is $44/night. It will likely go down in the fall (they reserve the right to change rates daily) to around $25-$35.
If you have the cash, it's in a great spot, with amazing people, and you'll feel pretty comfortable I'm sure. If you don't, still hit me up. I can get up to three people a place to stay-1 with me and 2 with a friend.

Brooklyn over Williamsburg bridge to Manhattan
Cross Manhattan to west side bike path, go down around battery park, go all the way around
cross Brooklyn bridge back into Brooklyn ride to Manhattan bridge and cross into Manhattan.
Might skip going over to westside bike path, because this ride will probably take all day.

To update, hostels out here are, on average, $35/night. That racks up costs quickly. My hostel went up to $44/night, which is ridiculous considering where we're located. If you have the money, go to hostelbookers.com or hostelworld.com and find the least expensive place off the L train in Brooklyn, or anywhere in Manhattan (Jazz on the Villa's in Harlem, $20/night.)

I only haven't pulled the trigger yet because I'm not 100% sure that Bike Kill will be on the weekend of the 25th. On the other hand, now that I know Ridazz will be there that weekend, so what if I miss Bike Kill? (No offense to Bike Kill.) Tentative dates for me: leave LA 10/21, return to LA 10/29.

As far as I know Newark is right next to Manhattan, whereas La Guardia is pretty far out. I've spent many a night out in Jersey City which is only a few minutes away from Manhattan.
Don't stay in Newark mind you, it's filled with jersey assholes, however it's not a bad place to fly into, calmer less people etc.
Most of this info is from my dad, who apparently flys into Newark all the time.

You can trust me. I've flown in and out of NY at least 16 times.
It is easier to fly into Newark than almost any other airport in the area.
It takes about a half hour to 45 minutes to get from there into Manhattan. You take the shuttle train from the airport to NJ Penn Station to NY Penn Station. 20-40 minutes from there to anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
JFK is just a long-ass subway ride, takes about an hour to Brooklyn, hour and a half to Manhattan.
LaGuardia is the bus, then the subway. Lot's of hauling up and down stairs and potentially missing the stop for train. Hour and a half, anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
They're all do-able. Newark is nice, though. Go there if it's cheapest.

Oh yeah, and the cheaper airlines--like Airtran, Southwest, Frontier, JetBlue etc, all charge $50 per bike, each way.
United, Delta, Northwest, range from $100-to $175. Ridiculous, huh?!
Find an address to send it to and Fedex it (cheaper than UPS by far). Airlines will trash it if it's not in a hardcase.
You may be able to send it to me at the hostel, but I'll have to get back to you on that. Let me know if you're desperate.

just spoke to my boy Greg in NY - He's Black Label, lives at the Chicken Hut and is one of the main organizers of Bike Kill. I told him a bunch of you were coming and were looking for places to stay and such. He said just show up and they'll work it all out.. bring your own sleeping bag etc.. there's always places to stay... wish I could come with y'all... it's gonna be EPIC!

In fact, can that be where MR gets together on Wednesday or Thursday? The Manhattan entrance of the Williamsburg bridge?
The Brooklyn side is a little tricky to locate. The Manhattan side is easy--off Delancy in the Lower East Side.

If no else is going to, I am willing to organize events, I am here already and know what's up. Any ideas should be brought up here. I know enough now to plan a ride, and what parties to crash, who to not piss off, where to get away with what, where the cheap steel reserve 40's are, and my crew is here on top of all that, etc. I already have a ride route in mind. I can work out an itinerary for 10/22-10/27, my pleasure.
BLBC will be one of MANY crews here for BK. Skidmarxxx, Cutthroats, Rat Patrol, Chunk, and tons of other gangs come to this. We don't have this in LA, bike gang culture. No offense to TWBG of course, you're the only ones though.
People that think Bike Kill played out haven't heard much about how hype people get for this event.
Whip cream, pies, pizza dough, jello, pastas, wheat paste, toothpaste, bananas, olive oil, house paint, kerosene, vasoline, wild animals, all that stuff. Time to bring it LA. Don't worry about anything being over the top.

People will need to pickup their bikes in Newark after arriving. This is a PATH train ride away from Manhattan. Then well need to get them to BK, where most will be staying. Its a long ride, so I suggest the train back, at least to NYC. This might take the rest of Wednesday to accomplish.
Thursday, Michelle and I know what's in store for you, let's keep that under wraps for now (its amazing).
Friday I suggest taking some time for Bike Kill. Planning in the day, tons of parties that night. I am unavailable that night but will find the parties for you.
Saturday is Bike Kill.
Ride to coney island, long island century, rat pack, free museum day, Halloween critical mass, Funderstorm show Nov 1st. Some ideas for after saturday.

If we set up a couple of tables near my porch I'm sure we'll be moving our unwanted junk pretty quickly. I'm also going to put up an ad on craigslist for my furniture. Fuck a Twitter. It doesn't have that functionality. TXTMob did, but it's on hiatus.
Never fear, though: I found a free service that is a lot like TXTMob, but with some refinements.
Swaggle, it's called.
I've already created an account and created a group called "NYRidazz." I'll send out invites later today (I'd do it now, but 5:00 AM is kind of an awkward time for that). If you're on the contact list, you'll be getting an invite SMS from 206-964-9197 (that's Swaggle's number, not mine, so don't bother crank calling it). It will tell you what to do to join the group.
Once you're a member, you can send messages to the entire group just by sending them to that number, so just save it in your contacts as "NYRidazz" and everything will be smooth.

If you're only a member of one Swaggle group, which I assume will be the case for everybody, you never have to put the group name into your message. Just type away, like you're sending a normal text.

I have a bike suitcase if anyone wants it. Also, check out AdventureCycling.org for LA-2-NYC routes. RAAM a few years back did that route, so it is doable. Plan for at least 20 days of hard riding on touring bikes. Once you kit Denver it's smooth to PA.

I just got word from one of my friends who used to live in New York and he said that we can break into his old house in Yonkers and stay there/party. I don't know where Yonkers is in relation to Brooklyn, but I know that the house would be able to fit all of us because it is four stories and still has all of his furniture in it... just no heat/electricity.
I know that an apt is being worked out for us to crash, but just in case...
