Last spotted on Friday night before the Halloween Ride outside of the Oven. We were going to buy inner tubes, chain tool tips, rim tape, and a pair of headset pliers with the money. Now all we have are sweet memories and an empty cash box.
i say if he is the thief, lets track him down and beat his ass and make him pay up! ive had it with thieves and i cant believe they ride with us, ive also had too many things stolen recently and it just plain sucks.
but i took that pic of him, i thought he was with the bike oven crew.
As much as I hate to interrupt a good lynching party, does anybody have any real evidence that this redneck is the thief? I saw him at various points on the ride, so it's not like he disappeared from the Bike Oven after the pre-party, never to be seen again.
He really shouldn't be - he offered to collect the dough on our behalf, and he went inside the oven to stash it/hand it off to one of our crew right before the ride took off.
He is not the guy who took the money.
We probably lost about $100. It is not a lot of money, but we need to pay our rent and buy small amounts of things to keep the shop running. I've dumped all of the money I can afford into the place, as has everyone else involved. It really isn't about us paying to keep the place open. If nobody needs a place like the Oven, then we'll go away.

We've been WAY too casual about the donation jar thing, and two or three people have taken advantage of that.
Freakin sucks man. I remember when everyone broke off from the afterparty thing... he was in our small group that was heading back to the oven. Then when we came over the bridge on Spring St. his left crank came off and he ended up walking back towards the oven. I don't know if he made it back or just parked there.
I don't think I've ever seen him before... or just cause of the costume... but yeah... best way would be to question the last person.
The Halloween ride brought out a lot of new faces... I don't know if it was the LA Times Calendar section that did it but a whole bunch of people... maybe brought out the shady characters. I'd just hate to think it's someone I've met and rode with for a long time. It just can't.
I just think it sucks that someone would do something like that to a collective and also to you Brian. I mean... all these people come to the Oven... or Brian's pad for the afterparty and something shady ends up happening. LIke that dude that got his bmx stolen after the Haunted Ride afterparty at Brian's place.
The joke was, when I didn't recognize the guy...someone from the oven told me he is homeless....I said, "you better watch that money."
I guess I had that response because the guy was just so damn eager, compared with the other 'oven hat passings' that I have witnessed (at Josef's house)...and because of the fact that I've never seen the guy before. I guess I was just being a bit nihilistic and skeptical at that moment, which is bad.
That was a fucked up joke to make.

Stealing from charitable entities sucks. What has this become, the United Way? Whether or not you identify or catch the perp, keep that jar in the hands of a Mongo you can trust in the future. It's a tough lesson to learn.
Okay....after thinking about it, I feel even worse about the joke I made and the previous post. There is no tangible reason that I should even suggest that the dude with the redneck costume stole the money. I just saw him with the money when it was being collected. So, yeah.

that dude who got his BMX jacked from the Haunted Ride after-party was my friend Mike.
I asked him how he was going to handle it and he decided to write it off as a loss. He had an amazingly coolhead about it. Kept saying he wanted to originally get another mountain bike anyway.
If that was my shit that got jacked, I would've reacted quite differently.

all i wanted to do was help out....i was there since 3pm helping gary and then towards the end i helped collect donations, and because i helped i get fucking blamed!??! where is the fucking logic and justice in that?!
after i collected what i could "eagerly" get from everyone, i took the jar back to gary to we could count it like we had agreed. he was busy and said just to put it under the counter. so i did. that was the last i saw of it.... after all of that, i even help close up the oven... and for the record, there people hanging out when i put the money there. it could have easily been one of them....
why the fuck would i come back to the oven if i had stolen the money!?
i already spoke to gary and josef about this whole shitty ordeal and told them the last time i saw the money. i had no idea any money was missing till i went to the oven today to work on my bike. then after that i got calls sfrom several friends saying people were after me and wanted to beat my ass and steal my bike and all kinds of shit....all becausei decided to help?? wtf?!!? maybe i should have jsut stood around, drank up all the sparks and not gave a flying fuck like all the other assholes who were there....
oh and another thing, im not fucking homeless, im just looking for a palce to rent cuz i booted out of the place i was renting because they were gonna remodel....so i dont technically have a "home" right now, im staying with my gf....

oh and another thing....i had a black peugeot on the bike rack the night....i had just put brand new lights on that bike that day and someone decides to steal them....why dont you fucking accuse actual thieves not victims of theivery....
the rent for the oven is about 600, that night we raised at the very least 100 but i woould say more cuz some people put in fives and like 1 or 2 20's.....but all that is gone and we are back down to like 5 bucks i think...
I say we get a collection together to restore 4star's pride and integrity. I would like to donate bro, but I ain't got no pride or integrity!!! I do have a couple of rear lights coming in and I can donate the better one of the two if you like.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I need to say that redneck man is quite upset about this whole thing.
First, I want to say "I'm sorry dude". It was a funny picture and in no way did we intend on you being in the hot seat. We know it wasn't you.
Also, please stop threatening him guys. On the forum or on the street. He's an awesome kid. He does nothing but help us out when he can. Even though he borrowed my new bike (which I never got the chance to ride) and got hit by a car on it. His intentions are all positive and I know he has nothing but good things to offer rides and the cycling community.
Lastly, we aren't sure how much money was in the jar.
Redneck man says there were some five's, and at least one twenty. I look at this picture and I estimate about thirty to forty in one's. For all I know this photo was taken early on in the evening.
No one really knows.

sorry for the misunderstanding, and thanks for clearing everything up. can the bikeoven organize maybe a big ride, a special weekend event, sell raffle tickets, or something to raise $$. ($600 a month is alot!) but i feel that something good will come out of this incident.
Why doesn't Bike Oven have a paypal account? i'd pitch in a few bucks a month to bike oven and bikerowave to help cover costs. If eveyone here on the boards did the same, shit would be much better.
