Will this year's Salton Sea trip be over President's day weekend? I heard it might be over a weekend in March.
Just curious because Mini bike winter up in PDX is on that weekend and it sounds like it's going to be an event worth coming up for (I know you guys already did it once).
Here's the flier from 09: http://www.zoobomb.net/minibikewinter/
yesth, Salton Sea is still Open for business. We're fortunate that It hasn't been shut down for last year's Zombie infestation. In fact it is getting a make-over, the new improved Salton Sea is now a utopia* of sorts.
One thing we know for sure, it will be on Presidents/Valentines weekend (Sorry Nicki, we'll miss you if you don't come...)
Another thing we know for sure, if you stay with Ridazz Camp, there will be a fee to cover Excrement Containers and Heat Generators.
Details soon...
*ooh, yes. That's a hint for the THEME, here's another...
"The seeds of the Little War were planted in a restless summer during the mid-1960s, with sit-ins and student demonstrations as youth tested its strength. By the early 1970s over 75 percent of the people living on Earth were under 21 years of age. The population continued to climb — and with it the youth percentage.
In the 1980s the figure was 79.7 percent.
In the 1990s, 82.4 percent.
In the year 2000 — critical mass."
The truth is Imperial County contacted a couple of the original organizers and said we're going to have to create an EIR for waste water disposal, rehabilitation of the campsite, get insurance, group permits, and traffic control for the ride to Bombay Beach this year. Way too expensive.
1. I am good. I just took a nice shower. My hair is all clean, I'm wearing clean cloths that aren't covered in fake-blood and sweat/stink. I can't tell if I'm hungry or thirsty, my tummy feels funny.
2. Tren Way are doing well, too. They're expanding and looking towards the future, as usual.
3. The Salton Sea was closed due to over-population. But the Zombie infestation seems to have subsided. The rides will be posted soon, camping may be postponed until 2010. They're doming the whole area, that takes time. So there might not be camping. But rooms may be available at reasonable rates. The rooms will at least be clean, new & private.
Im glad to hear all is well with Monday October 27th's Hygiene. You should hydrate and if stomach funninessicity persists then find some food stuffs.
The way of tren is about expansion and futuristic ideals, good to know its ideals havent subsided. As for the individuals within your family, they are missed by me.
I regret to hear that of the Sea. Oh well. Lets play it by ear.
I heard alot about this ride. I think we should plan something if it's not happening. I always wanted to go camping in the dessert. or maybe just get a room in town. Is it safe in the dessert?
I love you man, you're so totally pimping the better areas of the Mojave River region in these kick ass shots of yours.
Once you get beyond the BIA-induced torture of cracker-boxes and cookie-cutters, you begin to discover the true nature of what there is to love about "that desert beyond the San Gabriels".
Just remember, all the cool shit is going to be either;
-East on the 40 going towards AZ.
-North of the 58 and going towards Reno on the 395.
-Or, Eastbound on the 18 going past Apple Valley towards Lucerne, 29 Palms,. etc
Okay.. smartass responses aside, I would like to say I'm sorry there may be no SS trip this year and I'd like to thank the much maligned TWBG for putting on such an amazing event last year. Dak and co. rented portapotties, organized rides and hauled a forest worth of firewood out there for the enjoyment of EVERYONE. It's a trip I'll never forget. Thanks again.
if the event is about the people, the events, the fun... then it can happen in many different places.. sure.. you may want to call it something else, but it should be just as much fun
i don't know how you guys put on the event, or what it takes.. but i'm sure you all are creative enough to figure out a way to make it happen
i think $40 each would be hard for many people to put together, but i think $20 each is reasonable.

Actually I just had our accoutant tally this up. It's going to cost close to $600k to cover permits a "20million" dollar insurance policy the EIR and the sherriff, Chp and homeland security. Also there needs to be an air strip reserved and maintained at Edwards airforce base for airforce one AND marine one ( the presidential helicopter) which may touch Down at ridazz salton sea. bicycle 1 will also be on call as well as beer one and blunt one.
I say when in rome, do as the romans do. So when in salton sea do as the salton seaers do. Rent a house and start cooking meth. The last day there we could have an "accident". We don't have to worry about permits or anything.
i went camping with about 20 other people in sequoia national park and we were at a regular campsite that shouldn't have more than 8 people...we had about 8 tents!
why not go to death valley and take up a whole campground?
if you go in march... there are two free campgrounds
I'm game to go to this as well, as long as we've got a sizable group coming along.
If not, I'll just be the weird, lonely guy riding a rented Sportster through some place that looks like Purgatory.
Does it have a....
- hot springs
- town(s) that looks like the end of the apocalypse
- Moth and his water tower
- slab city and all it's whacked out inhabitants
- salvation mountain
- megaphone poetry

1)Charlie Mansons place at Barker Ranch, some fuckhead burned part of it down, but there's still shit left.
2)Pinnacles and oddball rock formations
3)Scotty's Castle with the 100+ yr old AC system.
4)Epic ghost towns hidden up in Funeral Mountains that require some backpacking.
5)People get lost and are never found out here, leading to the numerous stories of the "vanishing hitchhiker"
Carpool? Van rental? semi-truck hijacking? flatbed truck hide under the covers?
There's all sorts of ways to get a bulk of personnel and equipment to these out-of-the-way sites.
The youngsters managed to get up to Portland, surely a spot between here and Vegas is not that far out of the reach.
Well, rental of a Ford F-150 for bikes + 4 passengers and fuel comes out to $600 for everything.
Apparently, Hertz doesn't have cargo vans, but I'll keep my out.
This PDX jaunt sounds tight and I'm also wanting to take a look at PCC.
The process to becoming a paramedic up in Oregon seems slightly less neck-aching as down here.
Yeah we definitely need to bring him his pic we were chatting about awhile ago. I'll see if I can hit up a thrift store or two and find a picture frame.

Ok, after all the permits and toilet and firewood costs we've figured out we need $4000. At 100 people that's $40 each!!! Start saving up or if you have $40 please send it to "http://midnightridazz.com/viewProfile.php?userId=6650">Graham so we can start paying back people who have already fronted money.
THANK YOU!
If Graham doesn't have $1000 in his Paypal account by 11/10/09 at 8pm SALTON SEA IS CANCELED!!!!
i'm trying to figure it out by posting everywhere. it's f-ing annoying how excited people get for burning man and then it seems they forget about the best desert trip in the entire universe - salton sea.
i'm happy to help organize, i'm just trying to figure out how it happened last year. all we need are some porta potties, wood and a bunch of hell yeahs.
I know for sure Moth got many glass gifts at the end of WC2009. Hows about we bring him a beater bike with 10 water bottle cages full of tall-cans on it this year?

spam your own mini bike winter thread. I'll miss you at Bullhorn Brunch. I was hoping for a third year of fighting with Marino. you're denying me the opportunity to pull off the hat trick
bummer about this mini bike winter scheduling conflict... but Salton Sea is OUR mini bike winter. PDX is cool and all but it's no Salton Sea and not nearly as cheap and easy to please... taking your bike on the plane is a disaster and considering I just spent 36 hours in a van, the last thing I want to do is drive up to portland for 15 hours.
Salton Sea needs a long weekend! presidents weekend is perfect.
it cost $5
bullhorn brunch
the hot springs
slab city
moth
Salton Sea is great but it doesn't need more than two nights. 9 out of 10 people go Friday night and Saturday night and leave Sunday night.
It could be a chance to do something different and also have the people from PDX visit us later at Salton Sea.
As for taking your bike on the plane... No you won't. We'll have a few people go up with a truck or a van and carry all the bikes.
Anyway. You don't even have to go to Portland if you don't want to. All I'm saying is put the two events 2-6 weeks apart so that those of us who want to do both can do both.

i get what you're saying marino, but valentines/president's day weekend is the salton sea weekend.
not everyone has the money for portland - i know i'm never going there (or at least i don't plan on it anytime soon) - it's nothing against the pdxers, it just doesn't interest me right now.
maybe lets start some lists to get a better idea of who wants to go where on presidents day weekend?
Well Marino what can I say, I was stoked that the Salton Sea was becoming a tradition and was happening on a weekend that most everyone gets to take off from work....
I mean dont get me wrong, I love portland and the portland peeps but they have their community tradition and this is becoming ours... pdx has all kinds of events going on in the summer and a bunch of ridazz went up there last june... whats the weather like in feb in portland? cold and drizzly no?
i didn't meant to sound snobby about the portland idea, i just don't think we should cancel/postpone something that a lot of us are looking forward to and planning on.

Sound like a gas to watch people ride minibikes in the Portland winter.... but it's their tradition not ours. We have our own traditions. Go to Portland but don't do it by bashing our tradition that's lame.
I'm gonna spend presidents day in the desert celebrating midnight Ridazz 6 year anniversary!!
Hot Springs
niland critical mass
Bombay beach
slab city music jam
$2 beers at the only bar in niland
abandoned hotels and complete economic devastation for 30 mile radius
incredible starry night sky

$5 porta potty fee or none if Marino decides not to help
Marino I know you aren't going but could you still at least help us get the porta potties?
Everything else are just particulars that aren't affected by any authority or governing organization or individual.
So continue with your plans, like transportation, food and shelter. Start saving for gas and food, and be ready to pay the 5 bucks and possibly bring extra firewood, just in case.
Laharr knows how to build a geodesic dome, BUT, his dome -which is only 6.5' at the center and about 16' across took him about 40 hours to make the custom parts. It took him about a 1.5 hours to build it. The dome that Deathguild uses as their Thunderdome needs a crane to build and a flatbed truck to haul the parts. Not discouraging you, just giving you an idea of what it entails. Otherwise, AWESOME - Make it happen.
I'm hearing that Salton Sea planning is being done on Facebook. I appreciate the enthusiasm and excitement, but it's in the works!
You have all the information you need, nothing has changed. Just start saving for transportation and food, and be ready to pay the $5 bucks when whatever collecting plan gets set up.
1. There aren't any "organizers" for this event, it's a DIY event.
2. The only "organizing" will be a couple rides that are basically the same rides before (Bombay Beach and Niland Critical Mass) and
3. $5 being collected, per person, for community fire and potties.
4. This isn't burning man, people live there, so realize that it's not a war-zone that we can trash. It's a place that welcomes us, and we need to be just as respectful.
5. We are 1-hour from the Mexican border, and there are Homeland Security everywhere - they WILL SEARCH YOU, YOUR TENT, YOUR VEHICLE.
6. Salton Sea is NOT A FREE FOR ALL, you can die, go to jail, or get injured if you do something stupid. Don't do something stupid.
There are more principles that people need to abide by, it's pretty simple really, be nice or leave.
Hey DAK I think people started freeking out because it seemed like the organizers were backing out. I for one am completely STOKED to see that it's still being planned. The facebook page is not a planning area except for rides sharing to the event. everyone is excited and I'm trying to sway crabby ass Marino to stop being such a sourpuss turncoat and come join the fun!

I think people are used to a heavy level of structure and organization, things I don't think are needed. All anyone really needs to know is where and when to be. The $5, which is a ridiculously minimal cost, which will guarantee some basic levels of comfort that I think everyone can agree we will need, fire and a place to poop. Everyone else is responsible for everything else, including FOOD/WATER/FUN.
The thing that REALLY needs to be emphasized is keeping things cool with the locals. I've been hearing rumors of a serious sound system being brought, which leads me to believe that someone is thinking of turning our Bike/Camping trip into a RAVE. Seriously? A rave? I fucking hope not. But then again, do whatever the fuck you want - AS WILL I.
Um, so... what else? ... don't get me fucking arrested with your stupidity and lack of discretion or I will kill you. You don't run around the city screaming "Weee, I'm on Shrooms!!!" Do you? fucking morons, then don't do that shit at Salton Sea. Keep that shit on the DOWN-LOW.
40 Mile Ride to NOWHERE, bitches! Get ready, it's UNSUPPORTED.
This means TRASH. Don't fucking let it hit the ground.
There will NOT be a community trashcan.
There will NOT be a community recycling bin.
Any trash you bring, or create, YOU BRING IT HOME WITH YOU.
Even if you borrow a kitchen, you take the trash and scraps that you create.
If you bring drinks, even recyclable bottles and cans, no one is going to sort that shit for you, so YOU BRING IT HOME WITH YOU.
This includes CIGARETTE BUTTS.
This includes "BIODEGRADABLE" shit.
We police our own. No one is going to feel sorry for you if another one of us catches you littering and tears you a new one. You've been warned. Some of you may have witnessed my patience and temper tested. You will lose, because when it comes to trash, I will be right.
is this thing like burningman? ive been to burningman the last four years and its been awesome, but man its getting expensve. so anyways, can you just expalin what the restrictions are?
This is Midnight Ridazz's Annual Camping Trip to Salton Sea, Salton Sea for short.
1st, and foremost, it's a series of BIKE RIDES in the middle of NOWHERE.
2nd, the Camping at Slab City is pretty much incidental and it's "organization" is circumstantial.
3rd, you are there on your own free will, and responsible for your own actions.
It's no coincidence that it is being run like Burning Man. I, personally, have been going to Burning Man before I was doing Midnight Ridazz, and quite frankly a lot of it's principles are the same principles I apply to pretty much everything I ever do, such as LEAVE NO TRACE and Radical Self-Expression, Radical Self-Reliance and Do-Acracy.
Several rides will be posted soon, the start of these rides will be at Ridazz Camp, which will be within the borders of SLAB CITY, which is also an autonomously planned, organized and policed community. We will be guests there, and they like us. They DON'T like the Ravers that come once in a while. They don't like the tweakers and off-roaders that come and fuck the place up. We don't want to be THOSE people.
SLAB CITY is a DANGEROUS PLACE. You will die there if you fuck up. The locals carry guns, and there are folks that will fuck you up, steal your shit, and drink your blood - I am NOT exaggerating. But there are also some beautiful and sacred places such as Salvation Mountain and the Library. We have friends there, such as MOTH who lives in the water tower, and Charlie Chasterus, who lives in East Jesus (population 1). So don't fuck things up, or I'll fuck you up.
With that said, get ready for an amazing adventure and get ready to get your mind blown.
I wouldn't dream of bringing confetti to Salton Sea. I know my limits...I didn't bring Confetti to Santa Cruz Forests and it's not ganna happen at the Sea.
But there will be hugs and awesome moments of reunion and of foot messages and riding and eating canned food......
@omwemwaer, No. It's not. And we don't want it to be like Burning Man. Mind you, this response is coming from someone who absolutely loves Burning Man and has been a part of Ridazz Camp. We are trying to do something different. Our own thing. So if you're looking for Burning Man, this isn't for you. This is for the bike community by the bike community, and so has a different approach / feel / etc.

Do you know how much SHIT some of us had to pick up from around the fire pits last year after all you fuckers left? And I know who exactly left some of the shit and have some good ideas of who may have left the rest. I swear, if I see people leaving shit around I will grab you and rub your noses in it like you're a puppy who shit on the carpet. As you can tell, I'm grouchy about it. I was pissed off enough last year to still be angry today. Don't fucking rely on other people to pick up your stupid mess. If you want to sit and around and giggle and eat mushrooms and be love all day, keep your wits about you enough to clean your shit up.
ok well i totally understand not wanting to get your land fucked by off roaders and i know how sketch tweekers are, but how does ravers fit in with these guys? aren't they pretty much like us if they follow the same ethnos as we do? whos is doing the discriminating too? the people above, the people at slab city, or both?
omwemwaer responding to a comment by the reverend dak
01.7.10 - 1:39 pm
yes. I discriminate against all kind of people based on their values and you do too... do you like racists? do you like people who trash other peoples homes? do you like people who hit women? do you like people who rob people? do you like hit and run drivers? all of these people live by values that I personally dont agree with and in fact I will discriminate against them based on their fucked up values quite often... but dont get caught up in semantics. basically people are working hard to make sure that we are always going to have the Salton Sea as our yearly refuge and that means excluding people who disrespect the environment. dont get all butt hurt about the ravers comment. it's not tht serious. just dont fuck up the place and you are fine.

discriminating against a hit and driver and a raver is quite a bit different, dont you think? its hard to tell where ur going with this. are justifying ur discrimination of ravers? i was just wondering how someone could hate on someone that following the same ethics as you do. i did make that point above if you missed it.
omwemwaer responding to a comment by Roadblock

No one is saying a Raver can't go. Knock yourself out, please come. But don't forget your candy bracelets and your pacifier. No one really don't care what you listen to, or how you look. There is no discrimination happening here.
BUT, a lot of us are saying NO to bringing a huge sound system and turning our BIKE rides into a FUCKING STUPID RAVE.
There IS a big difference between a band putting on a show and a DJ spinning mindless techno.
I dont mind ravers and I actually dig techno. no one is hating on ravers (except maybe DAK) the main point is dont come with a huge sound system that carries a bunch of noise (no matter what kind of music) into the other camp grounds nearby and disturbs the residents and their good time. lets drop the raver discussion and get back to planning.
we're gonna have to figure out the best way to collect the funds for the porta potties...
Roadblock responding to a comment by omwemwaer
01.7.10 - 2:37 pm
@omwemwaer What Rev. Dak was saying it that the residents of Slab City don't like some ravers. This is because there have been groups who have come through and disrespected the community by partying and trashing the place. We are staying right near Slab City - we can and should consider ourselves to be staying IN Slab City - which is a community. We need to make sure to respect that. People who roll through and party like crazy and leave a shithole behind do not sit well with the residents, understandably.
And, frankly, if you look at the MOOP maps every year after Burning Man, the areas that are the most fucked up are the giant dance camps. Why? Because weekend warriors who go there just to dance show up, trash the fuck out the place, don't care because they're all fucked out of their minds, and then leave. If rave/partying is someone's only purpose for going somewhere, then there's a likelihood that person will not consider the environment around them, the people around them, the community around them. And that shit is just not acceptable on a Ridazz trip.
THE THEME FOR MIDNIGHT RIDAZZ : SALTON SEA - 2010...
A long, long time ago, the Salton Sink was about as desolate of a place you can possibly go. It was as low as Death Valley, just as hot, but much larger. One day it was accidently filled with water to became the Salton Sea, the largest body of water in California.
Its water was fresh, its surface was calm and as smooth as glass. Cities started to pop up along its banks. Speed-boat records were being broken, and water skiing was flourishing. It was a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert.
Then things started to die.
The pristene lake began to dry up, dead birds floated on its surface, and the putrid smell of rotting fish filled the scalding air. This forced the people leave, leaving all they built behind.
Now a land of death and decay, nature has taken over. Leaving behind a clean slate, or literally blank slabs, in its place. This is our future. This is the opportunity to create our refuge:
did you overlook my point made that the ravers follow the same ethics as others here? sure you can find ravers that thrash a place. just as you can find bikers that thrash the place. just read up on some of the posts after a big ride if you need first hand accounts.
from what ive read slab city isnt owned by anyone, they're out there squatting. they got little say so as to who goes out there. sure they can get pissed, but they wont be getting pissed over the ravers!
n finally i was just wondering how someone could manage to lump toether offroaders, tweeters, and ravers as most unwanted campers there, thats all.
omwemwaer responding to a comment by Ms. Stephanie
01.7.10 - 3:02 pm
AGAIN, it's nothing against RAVERS or RAVER lifestyle, in fact I have many "raver" friends, and love them dearly. Salton Sea is NOT Ibiza or Burning Man, it's not a RAVE. My words may have been harsh against Ravers, lumping them with off-roaders and tweakers, there are obvious differences. But it is not me who is lumping them together, it's Charlie Chasterus, it's Builder Bill, it's Moth, it's the people at the Lizard Tree Library who have expressed their dislike of the Raves that happen there on occasion. The people there LOVE us, and many of us don't want to change that. Please respect that, and please step off with the drama. If you don't like it, don't go.
Should we LIMIT the numbers we allow at camp? I realize that the practicality of enforcing this is pretty much impossible. It's more of a logistical problem, to make sure we have a FIRE BIG ENOUGH and to make sure we have ENOUGH PORTA-POTTIES without wasting money. If we limit, say to 100 or 150, we will know exactly how much wood to get and how many porta-potties to order. Unfortunately it will be a headache, and pretty much impossible to order more potties if the numbers increase at the last minute.
Some people will coming in an RV, they're not an issue. Some people will bring extra wood to burn, awesome. But no one will be able to bring a pottie, that's just not happening. Poop will get out of hand quickly if we fuck this up (remember AT's MOUF?)
we need to get the $5 from everybody asap to sign up for this.... thats just the way it has to be. we need expenses to be prepaid. no one suffers a hit.
btw Steph did it work out with the house? did you get the deposit back?
Roadblock responding to a comment by the reverend dak
01.7.10 - 3:54 pm
yeah I think you have to pay $5.55 if you do paypal. That's SO CHEAP for wood (it gets cold!) and the porta potties are ESSENTIAL for warding off the cops. When they drive near, they see the porta potties and instantly recognize that we are not just a bunch of bums shitting in holes and defiling the land. they get the impression that we are responsible people and they just drive on by.
After seen AT's Mouf last year I think I may just choose option B) dig a hole, take a poop, then cover it up. Or I might just buy one of these (see fig. 1A)
Fig. 1A
I'm thinking about bringing at least $50 worth of fire wood/burning logs besides what I'll contribute to the community. I think this should be enough. I also want to head up the SMORES CAMP (I had smores for the first time during the san diego trip a few months back and haven't stopped thinking about them! nom nom nom)

It seems to be lawless but there are laws, written and unwritten. For example the two local "music venues" shut down by 10pm . We'll be much further away but the locals are known to call the sheriff for noise and the sheriff is known to come.
The other thing is that we are friends with some locals and it would make their life miserable to be known in their community as the ones who invite these [insert expletive]. They all depend on each other to survive there.
It doesn't mean we gotta be hush hush by 10pm . It just means we gotta be respectful and aware of the environment. That's all.

see this is where i believe you guys really come up short and fall flat on ur faces. instead of telling someone that saids, "did you get fucked in the ass one too many times as a child?" to stfu, or someone that equates ravers, tweekers, and offroaders as one of the same, to stfu, you go and tell someone that joins your group to stfu. and all you manage to do is build up animosity towards you guys and create an us vs them confrontation. NICE JOB! keep this up and you'll have more than motorists calling the cops on ur ass!
as i said, im going to talk to my people about going out there and meeting with them. just needed to find out where the resistance was at. you guys are turning out to be quite the prize though.
For the purpose of constituting an adverse possession by a
person claiming title, not founded upon a written instrument,
judgment, or decree, land is deemed to have been possessed and
occupied in the following cases only:
First--Where it has been protected by a substantial inclosure.
Second--Where it has been usually cultivated or improved.
Provided, however, that in no case shall adverse possession be
considered established under the provision of any section or sections
of this Code, unless it shall be shown that the land has been

the party or persons, their predecessors and grantors, have paid all
the taxes, State, county, or municipal, which have been levied and

...basically, if you claim the land, keep it pretty, and pay your taxes for 5 years, it's yours.
its entirely possible they own the land we camp on. who knows how long month has squatted there or the squatters before them. you may claim the title to the land after only 5 years if you pay the property taxes.

Dear omwemwaer you stepped on the wrong thread. They are good peeps but they are all about tradition. They gang up on noobs. They like everything to be exactly like last year. You were not there last year and they are freaking out.
Now if you post a picture and they see you are hawt they may change their minds.
As for me, I know you are hot. <3<3<3

Stop trolling this thread. People grouped tweakers, offroaders and ravers together simply for the common fact that these people have come to these "squatters'" land before and made a mess of things. Those same people could easily clump us in with them and that's all we're trying to do. Just bring a good attitude, some fun and some fire wood and you'll see that everyone in this thread are really accepting and inclusive of outsiders. Hope to meet you soon.
PS. It takes some time to get used to the boards. People say inflammatory stuff that unless you've been here more than 1 day you'd probably get offended by.

I have to admit that I was beyond ignorant to what had happened at the Salton Sea. I didn't realize that it was once such a thriving and even ideal desert community and to have seen what I've seen... well, it's extremely sad. I've gained a new appreciation and my respect has increased even more so for both the site and it's inhabitants.
If and when the sound system is broughten, it won't be a huge funkiton system. It's just speakers meant to be played.
If there is an issue while there, where people feel it's too loud, it won't be just completely ignored. We aren't assholes (not ridiculously huge assholes). Plus when we go, we are friends, not chumchummy fuck buddies, but people who recognize in one another shared interest and choose to mingle with each other.
ATTN: Anyone who cannot get their funds to Borfo and doesn't want to pay the extra change on pay pal

Thanks - the site was just designed to help.
Any serious questions should be sent to Rev. Dak.
I noticed Tomato has posted some of this info on facebook and we appreciate the help.
Honestly, I am still uncertain if I am able to make this trip.
I am currently trying to organize the poopers situation. Would anyone like to coordinate with me and help be a "Point Person" for the port-o-potties situation in case I can not be there?
slab city is small but all the roads are paved or hard packed dirt and anywhere else we ride will be on the road. the only place skinny tires are hard to ride on is in camp. everyone told us last year to bring beach cruisers and man after 20 miles to bombay beach on the highway i was wishing i had my track bike.

"Bike - We do most of our exploration excursions by bicycle. Optional 10-150 miles. Thick tires (26mm+ width) are suggested. Also bring tubes and tools in case you get a flat! You don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere."
Louis, I appreciate the thought, but in my humble opinion I dont think people should be coming to Salton Sea to sell anything. The local stores and economy benefits when we go there and they are in desperate need of business. Please bring what you need, give and share if you can but leave the commerce here in LA and there in Niland to the locals. I know people are saying this isnt burning man but it does have similarities to burning man and I feel that the gift and share culture is where it's at.
also lets be careful with the wood as spiral says. it's awesome that you are working to get wood, lets just make sure its not treated wood that will make people sick.

Last year we got a 'full' cord although it didn't seem so 'full' to me.
With $5 each you'll probably be able to swing 1 full cord and poopers but with the amount of people I'm thinking you should have at least 1 1/2 cord's.
More wood = Longer nights.
Yeah yeah yeah.

So I was doing some research on firewood delivery places, and stumbled upon this littlle gem...not sure if anyone's posted it before, but when it gets to Travel Report #19: Slab City, Day 6 [not that far in], it's pretty neat-o...

well, I guess that probably would depend on how far they had to come & how awesome they were, no? Realistically, it'd be cheaper if we brought the wood ourselves, I'm sure.

it might be cheaper, but there's nothing like having a ton of wood delivered all at once by a truck rather than dealing with delivering and blah blah. some things are worth paying for, and $5 is NOTHING for everyone to chip in and make it happen.

Totally. I'm for whatever works & whatever is best. 100%. That's kinda why I was looking around online tonight to see if there was any kind of firewood delivery service I could find w/decent prices. But all I really found was that fun travel journal/article and a bunch of places that wanted to give me BBQ wood for restaurants. Maybe I needed to spend more time.
