Back when i was a kid in jr. high, i was never really into music because i was a total bookworm. Then someone gave me an audio cassette of some Led Zep and i became a tapeworm.
PC, I don't know what that comment meant, but when you like glam rock and sport the style, all Glam rock is good Glam rock. It was not the easiest thing, walking around like that. There was definitely a comradery that everybody who dressed the style had with one another. Another thing about Glam rock, is there wasn't lots of bands around, so whatever another band came around, you pretty much would like it by default, of being happy to find another Glam Band. The NYDolls are the fathers of that genre of music, as far as I remember everybody thinking about it. I still rock the dolls when it feasible. I will especially put them on if Mr."I know everything, I so smart" is in the room.
That picture of what hardcore is today, looks like what Glam did with a lot Glam rockers in the 90's.

Watch it closely with a keen eye and you'll see that the white racists in that movie are portrayed total douche bags. The people who are racists of convenience quickly change their tune when they realize that the black guy is gonna save them. And the Sheriff, assumed by the racist villians, to be too stupid to save the town because he is black, is actually the smartest player in the whole movie.
Of course in 70's the wake of Black Panther hysteria and a society just a few years past government sanctioned racisim people would have crapped their pants to deal with this kind of critique head on, so Brooks' use of absurd comedy brilliantly makes the point and even the most uptightest of crackers laughed through the whole thing.

Maybe its my limited supply of Hardcore but BB is up there with all the stuff I like: Minor Threat, The Kennedy's IGWT, and um Bad Brains.
maybe I'm forgetting something but by my count they are my #3 Hardcore Band.
I like the reggae stuff. For American Reggae, and definately compared to all that over polished stuff that was coming out around the same time it deffinately stands out.
And of course on a Bad Brains record it works brilliantly and a little break from the blistering 1-2 minute songs that fill the rest of the record (rock for light).
But up against the volumes of brilliant roots reggae from the islands ...
I just doesn't stand out to me as being totally mind blowing.
I did see HR playing reggae solo before he completely lost it. Playing on the beach in Mexico and it was pretty amazing as I remembered it (and no I was not stoned).

Shitting wages at a record store is nothing new. It's been like that probably ever since there were record stores. You got to hand it to Fingerprints though. When other independent record stores were falling by the way side, Fingerprints managed to expand their shop! And for the most part they are very well liked by the customers and the musicians that come there to play.
Ever been to She Sells CDs by the Sea Shore in Long Beach? Wierdest place ever. I played there with my band a few months ago. Completely disorganised, "by appointment only" and the owner doesn't seem to actually know all that much about music.

That's all I know: it's a by-appoinment only record store run by a middle-aged guy who didn't appear to know all that much about music. All the music was used, and, from a perusal of two or three stacks of discs, pretty crappy. Most of it was the kind of stuff you'd expect to find in $0.99 bins -- think boy band albums from a decade ago.
While we were setting up for our show, he asked what we play, so we informed him we play folky music, which drew a blank stare. And he was playing David Gray White Ladder as the house music.

This thread's existence was the culmination of a veritable plague of music-talk thread jacking. Music talk was threatening the existence of the Midnight Ridazz community, and ruinedbyidiots, in a moment of THC-induced inspiration, realized the only way to save MR was to contain the music talk and quarantine it into it's own thread. You're in over your head Borfo. You can't fight the lowest common denominator. It's like trying to give foreign aid money to Africa. It will consume you and your posts. Peel Box is so good... it kinda pissed me off because when I got it I was like "goddammit, now I don't need these 15 individual albums any more." Although the bonus disc on the Live At the Witch Trials CD repress makes that purchase completely worth it.

Oh yeah, the show I was at was great considering his new band had had only 2 days to rehearse after Pritchard, Trafford, and Birtwistle quit at their previous show in Phoenix. They had some obnoxious VJ manipulating and looping videos of Streisand, Michael Jackson, Queen, and other major bands as an opener for 45 minutes with the band coming on towards the end of the VJ set. The VJ was interesting for about 5 minutes and then people started throwing shit.
At one time I had close to all their vinyl up until "Bend Sinister" but then lost interest after that. "The Real New Fall LP" is what renewed my interest.

Although Dianno was great, and "Wraithchild" is probably my favorite Maiden song, I gotta go with Somewhere in Time. I must have spent hours staring at all the hidden shit in that album cover when I was a kid.
I had to move my record collection the other day. Thought I would post a pic of it against the wall. This collection represents over 2000 rare imports from the post punk era. The boxes are 12" singles. Some of the last vinyl I collected was the two 10" picture disc from Tool. This was from the Enema Album. All my vinyl is in mint condition and most all of them were only played 3 times or less.

Fad Gadget aka Frank Tovey, and was one of my fav! I have alot of releases as Fad Gadget and some 12" singles. The dude was incredible for being a one man band! I saw him as Frank Tovey in the early 90s in Amsterdam. I would have loved to have seen him in his early career.
Musicians could learn a thing or two from this dude. The stuff is still fresh today!
Yeah there's been a big renewed interest in post punk. I had a pissy attitude about it because I figured all that shit out on my own a few years ago, and now all of a sudden everyone knows who Gang of Four is. BLAH. I had a radio show in the early 2000s and had to hunt far and wide for Post Punk and No Wave.

FYI, hold on to your copies of this guy. Apparently it's now out of print, and used CDs are selling for $50 on amazon. I bought mine a few years ago for $10 new... what the hell?

The secret service guy was actually not bad in an uncomfortable sort of way because he came escorted with a torrance police officer and asked me while smoking a cigarette outside (not on the balcony, on the parking lot) if I knew the balcony is shut down til the secret service notifies us (which was two hours after bush left). He did notice my time's up pin from the NYC republican convention and warned me not to go outside and then just took off. I found out outside, there's snipers pointing at the office window on the floor I work at from other buildings to protect the president.

the 3mp record isnt even supposed to exist on vinyl. they were pressed and then for some reason geffen decided to destroy them all. the band stole some and handmade some retarded packaging and old them at a few shows. theres a copy on the wall at amoeba for $200, so i dont think i overpaid at all. the only lp of theirs that im missing is the star.control.out 12'. but i dont really care enough about them any more to go out and look for it. the footage of their "reunion" at touch and go fest was terrible.

queens of the stone age / the desert sessions do really good versions of eccentric man. but yeah, that record is fucking killer. theres no such thing as a bad power trio.

Damn, the normally tepid All Music Guide was uncharacteristically nasty to the Groundhogs:

I'm pissed cuz I dropped $25 on a Fushitsusha record that sounds like someone knocks over a guitar every few minutes and yells something inaudible.
Invariably described by critics as a "sprawling" "epic," this is the most ambitious and probably the best project ever to spring from the mind of Sean O'Hagan, who may be better known at this point for his work with Stereolab (and, more recently, Super Furry Animals). Musically O'Hagan wears his influences proudly as usual--in this case, mostly Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson--while his impressionistic lyrics trace themes of American manifest destiny and tourism. Basically a kind of suite of conflicted love songs to America from a bemused outsider.
Ten years later, I think it's safe to say that Hawaii was the product of a moment in time when Sean O'Hagan's creativity and his access to record company money were both at their peak. So on this album his vision was fully realized in a way that it wasn't before, and hasn't been since, on his other projects, occasionally brilliant though some of them are.
So just go and listen to the thing, and if you don't like it I will kick you in the balls.
something to check out if you're keen on the sounds of panda bear and/or my morning jacket. it's like pop/new wave/prog-rock/psych with a dash of daydream flying, fresh meadows, and warm summer lakes and a hint of dance floor feet.
This album isn't as good as I want it to be. Frickin' Swedes, their rock always turns out sounding way too pop. With a name like "witchcraft" you'd expect things to be weird & metal.
witchcraft started out as a pentagram cover band. now, i love pentagram. and when i say love, i mean LOVE. like, favorite band ever status (next to motorhead and thin lizzy). i have the first two lps and they sound alot better than the alchemist. if you want i can sell.

Proto-punks from Phoenix in 1977, the Consumers combined wonderfully mean-spirited, irreverent and mordantly funny lyrics with high powered stop-start buzzsaw rock, and the result was...well, a bunch of harrowing live gigs and an album that didn't actually get released for almost twenty years.
Phoenix being (to put it mildly) a dead end for an ambitious young punk rock band in the late seventies, the Consumers moved to LA, did a lot of drugs, and fell apart. Guitarist Paul Cutler took his considerable skills (and a bunch of the songs on this album) with him to a little band you may have heard of called 45 Grave. David Wiley went on to become a founding member of Human Hands, a reconstituted version of which played at the Ann Summa reception at Track 16 that some of you attended (but without Wiley--he died some time in the eighties).

and BTW, this one had some good moments, but it's not as good as I had hoped for. It's a lot of Eno - esque quirky lyrics and song structures, with generally pleasant guitar, piano, percussive musical backdrop. Mileage will vary, of course.
This is pretty much the best record of all time.

Peel Box is so good... it kinda pissed me off because when I got it I was like "goddammit, now I don't need these 15 individual albums any more." Although the bonus disc on the Live At the Witch Trials CD repress makes that purchase completely worth it.

I had to move my record collection the other day. Thought I would post a pic of it against the wall. This collection represents over 2000 rare imports from the post punk era. The boxes are 12" singles. Some of the last vinyl I collected was the two 10" picture disc from Tool. This was from the Enema Album. All my vinyl is in mint condition and most all of them were only played 3 times or less.
Yeah there's been a big renewed interest in post punk. I had a pissy attitude about it because I figured all that shit out on my own a few years ago, and now all of a sudden everyone knows who Gang of Four is. BLAH. I had a radio show in the early 2000s and had to hunt far and wide for Post Punk and No Wave.
Damn, good call, I haven't listened to the Mekons in a long time... I'm gonna play this when I get home.
FYI, hold on to your copies of this guy. Apparently it's now out of print, and used CDs are selling for $50 on amazon. I bought mine a few years ago for $10 new... what the hell?
This album isn't as good as I want it to be. Frickin' Swedes, their rock always turns out sounding way too pop. With a name like "witchcraft" you'd expect things to be weird & metal.
