it's inevitable that threads will be derailed with music talk. You are rbi, destroyer of threads. Which is pretty much the best thing going on this website most days. Guitar Wolf > handlebars.
sexy,
Glam = yay! I get so happy when I'm at a bar and the New York Dolls are on the juke box.
My best juke box story: there was a bar in Long Beach that had Minor Threat Discography. My friend and I dumped $5 and selected the whole album, all 30 songs start to finish, and left as soon as the first song cued up. I hope there were fights.
(Not to mention the irony of listening to straight edge at a bar.)

With me, it's all about the tracks that get played on Sirius 35, Chill.
I would say they're essentially, a light form of electronica that you could either relax or exercise moderately to.
Such artists include:
BT, Air, Massive Attack, Chicane, Kaskade, Beth Orton, Ladytron, Rob Dougan, and a mass of others that are commonly blasted in my headphones.
In fact, I'm definitely getting myself one of those Sirius "Stilletto" units
to get my Satellite fix anywhere I ride.
I would say of all the money I pay every three months for service, I only listen to Chill 35 and RawDog 104 the most.
Any other Satellite subscribers in here??
Terrestrial, Clear-Channel, politically-backed, commercially-saturated FM radio is a thing of the past.
@sexy
LA Glam Rock, eh?
Is that similar to the likes of Gary Glitter, or some shit like that?
I could just picture someone bumping that "Leader of the Gang" shit on a ride one of these days.
My next bike will be my first non-Brooks bike, at least to start. I have a Turbo and a Concor just sitting around but I've always wanted a Rolls, they look really cool and are supposed to be really comfortable.
What I love most about Brooks and other tensioned leather saddles is that they look cooler with age. Other saddles just get worn out!
It's hard for me to really pin down a favorite genre or era. I really do enjoy everything, it's just a matter of what I'm feeling at the moment.
Brooks Saddles, please.
It's all about the duct-tape holdin' down the bulgin', foam from the weathered, cheap-seat.
Hipsters and hipstee's try to look poor by spending money.
Myself, I look cool by spending money, two years ago!!
Hey I was just picking dem by the hit count. How was I to know it was racist. Funny thing was that no one really got their panties in a bunch over this when it came out!
Back when i was a kid in jr. high, i was never really into music because i was a total bookworm. Then someone gave me an audio cassette of some Led Zep and i became a tapeworm.
PC, I don't know what that comment meant, but when you like glam rock and sport the style, all Glam rock is good Glam rock. It was not the easiest thing, walking around like that. There was definitely a comradery that everybody who dressed the style had with one another. Another thing about Glam rock, is there wasn't lots of bands around, so whatever another band came around, you pretty much would like it by default, of being happy to find another Glam Band. The NYDolls are the fathers of that genre of music, as far as I remember everybody thinking about it. I still rock the dolls when it feasible. I will especially put them on if Mr."I know everything, I so smart" is in the room.
That picture of what hardcore is today, looks like what Glam did with a lot Glam rockers in the 90's.
the "shes probably hitting at your friends, and everyone elses friends behind your back." comment, that describes my GF to a tee. Just like in the glam rock days, still can't shake off that part of those day.
Racist?
Not hardly.
On the contrary Mel Brooks was blasting the hypocritical racist movie industry/ and american society in general.
Watch it closely with a keen eye and you'll see that the white racists in that movie are portrayed total douche bags. The people who are racists of convenience quickly change their tune when they realize that the black guy is gonna save them. And the Sheriff, assumed by the racist villians, to be too stupid to save the town because he is black, is actually the smartest player in the whole movie.
Of course in 70's the wake of Black Panther hysteria and a society just a few years past government sanctioned racisim people would have crapped their pants to deal with this kind of critique head on, so Brooks' use of absurd comedy brilliantly makes the point and even the most uptightest of crackers laughed through the whole thing.
This is like Dave Chapelle 30 years early.
Of course when I was a kid the only thing I could remember was the epic fart scene.
Reminds me of an Imperial Butt Wizards show at Al's Bar when I was lifted to the ceiling in one of the couches there and promptly dropped on my ass. Still, that was much mellower than everyone beating on each other with mops at Hell's Gate for the Wizards' International Janitor's Union show.
It's the last song John Lennon ever played gituar on.
This was a song that Lennon heard and pushed Yoko to make as a club single. Knowing that I find it fucking errie to listen to the lyrics and vocals. To hear Ono's voice, it sounds like she is already mourning his loss.
really CH, other people can see this, you two are not the only ones who can sign on and read this thread? I'm glad you let me know that, I think I will re think the way I post. Geez you are so smart, I see why you are referred to as Numskull.
I have a suggestion.
Ride your bike to Amoeba
pick up a copy of Rock For Light
Listen to track 2 - 10 times (will take 11.2 minutes)
then go back for your 7 day 75% back purchace protection, pick something you like better and do me a favor, stop arguing like a bunch of little bitches.
do you have a crush on my Girlfriend David? You have seem to take great offense to my humor. I can't figure out why, what I say about my girl, causes you to get your panties in such a bind.
Yes, when our eyes met on the Halloween ride, my heart fluttered, my knees faltered, my vision grew blurry, and I careened into a row of garbage cans set out for morning pickup.
RBI started this thread so we would quit jacking other threads. Only fitting that this thread itself would be jacked.
I got an e-mail about this band The Saggiatarians playing tonight: former members of Trail of Dead and Pleasure Forever. Also according to myspace, Vietnam is playing too. May have to check that out.
Maybe its my limited supply of Hardcore but BB is up there with all the stuff I like: Minor Threat, The Kennedy's IGWT, and um Bad Brains.
maybe I'm forgetting something but by my count they are my #3 Hardcore Band.
I like the reggae stuff. For American Reggae, and definately compared to all that over polished stuff that was coming out around the same time it deffinately stands out.
And of course on a Bad Brains record it works brilliantly and a little break from the blistering 1-2 minute songs that fill the rest of the record (rock for light).
But up against the volumes of brilliant roots reggae from the islands ...
I just doesn't stand out to me as being totally mind blowing.
I did see HR playing reggae solo before he completely lost it. Playing on the beach in Mexico and it was pretty amazing as I remembered it (and no I was not stoned).
Ameoba affected the market but didn't destroy it.
For a second AArons tried to get their shit together but it was too little too late.
i ge the sense that record business used to be pretty easy but .mp3, web stores, Wallmart, oil prices, slipping economy, rising rents, and to some degree Amoeba changed that.
Honestly, i think a lot of little indys failed in the last few years because they didn't work hard enough or smart enough to weather the new economy.
Look at Long Beach. Virgin Mega Store is dead and Fingerprints, Baggatelle, tape and, and even velvet underground still live.
blacklisting former employees who list working there on their resumes after they quit due to unethical business practices or something like that. i really dont want to muckrake so ill shut up.
i have never actually heard ghost. i had an lp by MASAKI BATOH who is/was a member of ghost, and it sounded like the black dice record "beaches and canyons" only recorded on a boombox.
maybe 8 months ago three guys from acid mothers temple did a jap-sych festival thing at the smell. 6 or 7 acts but with the same three guys.
i threw in a cdr of the flower travellin band for you. have you heard them?
I just e-mailed Drag City to see if they are going to vinyl repress any Ghost shit. I try to avoid paying collector prices for originals. I'd go broke in a heartbeat.
"Flower Travelling Band was Japan's answer to Led Zeppelin meeting Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath at the Ash Ra Temple. Simply put, they played grand, spacey, tripped-out hard rock with a riffy base that was only two steps removed from the blues, but their manner of interpreting those steps came from an acid trip."
The dirt on Fingerprints:
Its pretty well known that fingerprints pays their empoyees shit.
Still for all the complaints i have heard, plenty of musicians seem willing to slog away for $7 or $8 an hour + first dibbs on trade ins I h for a long time before getting completely fed up.
I've heard of stupidity there, of terrible pay, but not much worse than that.
Shitting wages at a record store is nothing new. It's been like that probably ever since there were record stores. You got to hand it to Fingerprints though. When other independent record stores were falling by the way side, Fingerprints managed to expand their shop! And for the most part they are very well liked by the customers and the musicians that come there to play.
Ever been to She Sells CDs by the Sea Shore in Long Beach? Wierdest place ever. I played there with my band a few months ago. Completely disorganised, "by appointment only" and the owner doesn't seem to actually know all that much about music.
isis / pig destroyer - split 7"
celestial 2x12" first press black
oceanic 2x12" first press clear
panopticon 2x12" first press black
live2 2x12" black
oceanic remixes 1-4 clear vinyl
and BTW, this one had some good moments, but it's not as good as I had hoped for. It's a lot of Eno - esque quirky lyrics and song structures, with generally pleasant guitar, piano, percussive musical backdrop. Mileage will vary, of course.
"Blank frank is the messenger of your doom and your destruction
Yes, he is the one who will set you up as nothing
And he is one who will look at you sideways
His particular skill is leaving bombs in peoples driveways."
Yeah, I used to walk past She Sells CDs By The Seashore almost every night on my lunch break and try to figure out what the hell the story was with this place. So...what the hell is the story with this place?
Pres was teh awesome. Angel in Heavy Syrup & Flower Travellin Band blowed my mind. I gotta get in the right mood to work through that metal comp you made. Thanks so much man, I owe you more money and lotsa beer.
PC:
That's all I know: it's a by-appoinment only record store run by a middle-aged guy who didn't appear to know all that much about music. All the music was used, and, from a perusal of two or three stacks of discs, pretty crappy. Most of it was the kind of stuff you'd expect to find in $0.99 bins -- think boy band albums from a decade ago.
While we were setting up for our show, he asked what we play, so we informed him we play folky music, which drew a blank stare. And he was playing David Gray White Ladder as the house music.
other than space ritual, you should consider the following
in search of space
doremi faso latido
hall of the mountain grill
warrior on the edge of time
space ritual is two shows spliced together to sound like one long one. i think it was a two night event. anyway, theres also a space ritual volume 2 that is a recording of one of the nights from start to finish.
for more random "i wouldnt expect someone from motorhead to play this sort of shit" check out this record. guess who that is on the far left.
rbi you missed some major ridiculousness. A band from Ojai opened, I think they were called Charred Man or something, and a pack of 16-19 year old Ojai groupies showed up drunk as hell and zipping on acid and they tore the place up. Your peeps?
Guy Blakeslee, and everyone else, was sort of watching in confusion at the mosh pit. (A mosh pit during an Entrance set would be like ravers & glo-stix during an Air set.)
CHAR-MAN! i went to high school with those guys (sans the drummer, i dont know who that guy is)
named after the ghost of a dude that was burned alive in a car crash who haunts a bridge out in the woods. the 16 year old skate/surf rats love them for some reason. i think its the liberal use of cowbell.
im sort of mad i didnt go with you guys now. we didnt even go bowling. we just got drunk and watched its always sunny in philadelphia until 3am.
Ha, yeah that was them, Char Man. Ojai surf rats FTW. One skinny tall guy with long blonde hair (think stacey peralta c.1975) came up to my buddy Karl and said "You're the first black guy who's ever come here! I've been waiting for you! I love you! This is my friend Kyla, isn't she pretty?" Acid. Yay for that.
And yeah duh, of course you should have come. For future reference, blowing off plans with me is choosing to lose at life.
I would, but babysitting sexy is enough work for this lad. I'm pooped!
ruinedbyidiots:
Bone Out, huh? That was the sonic equivalent of getting called "!@#$?" by a hillbilly. Kinda rad. Plan another Shangri La showdown around a day they are playing a show, and let's check 'em out!
You are mistaken, Borfo. Music talk is the destroyer of all threads, a black hole of internet discussion. This thread's existence was the culmination of a veritable plague of music-talk thread jacking. Music talk was threatening the existence of the Midnight Ridazz community, and ruinedbyidiots, in a moment of THC-induced inspiration, realized the only way to save MR was to contain the music talk and quarantine it into it's own thread. You're in over your head Borfo. You can't fight the lowest common denominator. It's like trying to give foreign aid money to Africa. It will consume you and your posts. And all the while, the music thread will only grow longer.
Peel Box is so good... it kinda pissed me off because when I got it I was like "goddammit, now I don't need these 15 individual albums any more." Although the bonus disc on the Live At the Witch Trials CD repress makes that purchase completely worth it.
I missed those K.F. shows. Was it any good? M. Smith is looking pretty haggard these days. I'll try to catch 'em next time they come around.
"I missed those K.F. shows. Was it any good? M. Smith is looking pretty haggard these days. I'll try to catch 'em next time they come around."
Oh yeah, the show I was at was great considering his new band had had only 2 days to rehearse after Pritchard, Trafford, and Birtwistle quit at their previous show in Phoenix. They had some obnoxious VJ manipulating and looping videos of Streisand, Michael Jackson, Queen, and other major bands as an opener for 45 minutes with the band coming on towards the end of the VJ set. The VJ was interesting for about 5 minutes and then people started throwing shit.
At one time I had close to all their vinyl up until "Bend Sinister" but then lost interest after that. "The Real New Fall LP" is what renewed my interest.
the drummer of that band the wallflowers went to my high school. you calling me one of those is homage to that guy, right? i was too busy staring at the beautiful woman shrieking into the microphone over blast beats. check out LANDMINE MARATHON.
RBI, I just saw your post in the other thread, which said "go get this album." So I was like "OK", and I went to Amazon right away and bought a copy for $20.
Does that make me your bitch?
And tell dave to stop crying about me making fun of him on LAfixed. It's not very becoming of a lad to carry on that way.
yes you are my bitch. if you end up loving that record (which i know you will) then you need to get a copy of their lp called SPLIT. those are the only two groundhogs records really worth owning.
no, i didnt like that one. remember, if i hate it that means youll love it. but if i love it, then its super fucking good.
if you are into ts mcphees fuzzy guitar tone, try to look out for records by GEORGE BRIGMAN. he was obsessed with mcphee and tried to be him as much as possible.
the jungle rot lp is killer, but it isnt mastered very well. i am ok with shitty boombox sounding recordings and i think it fits.
the ants dancin lp is cleaner sounding, but isnt nearly as good as the first one.
Hells bells! When will you be in LA next? Cuz that will probably be sooner than the next time I'm in the 805.
I ran into Baxter at that Earthless/Sea of Air show on Saturday. You know you're doing the right thing when you run into Baxter and he's dressed like a Civil War deserter. Good times.
shurly. Or the Alley Cat that same day? I'll be in the mix.
We probably shouldn't stay on this topic too long, for the risk of attracting overweight suburban 14 yr olds is great, but what's your favorite Maiden album? Me = Powerslave.
ill be at both probably, yeah. ill give you a call.
as for maiden, i gotta go with the self titled lp. dianno or nothing at all. although there is a cassette of the number of the beast under the seats in my car somewhere.
*****************************************************************
End of Maiden talk. Go back to Arcadia, 14 year old.
*****************************************************************
Although Dianno was great, and "Wraithchild" is probably my favorite Maiden song, I gotta go with Somewhere in Time. I must have spent hours staring at all the hidden shit in that album cover when I was a kid.
I had to move my record collection the other day. Thought I would post a pic of it against the wall. This collection represents over 2000 rare imports from the post punk era. The boxes are 12" singles. Some of the last vinyl I collected was the two 10" picture disc from Tool. This was from the Enema Album. All my vinyl is in mint condition and most all of them were only played 3 times or less.
heres my shit

i havent bought a 7" in i dont know how long.
Fad Gadget aka Frank Tovey, and was one of my fav! I have alot of releases as Fad Gadget and some 12" singles. The dude was incredible for being a one man band! I saw him as Frank Tovey in the early 90s in Amsterdam. I would have loved to have seen him in his early career.
Musicians could learn a thing or two from this dude. The stuff is still fresh today!
Yeah there's been a big renewed interest in post punk. I had a pissy attitude about it because I figured all that shit out on my own a few years ago, and now all of a sudden everyone knows who Gang of Four is. BLAH. I had a radio show in the early 2000s and had to hunt far and wide for Post Punk and No Wave.
@RBI: you have more records than that, don't you? And is that a 13th Floor Elevators album peeking out in the first pic?
i had alot more but i sold like half of them a few years ago for about $750. now i just keep the essentials and weed out the trash. good eye on the 13th floor elevators. its a mono pressing! but i dont know if its legit or a bootleg because theres no date on the cover or the inner labels.
$100 for three mile pilots "chief assassin to the sinister" lp on blue vinyl with the burlap sack
$90 for pentagrams "day of reckoning" lp with the mausoleum cover.
$50 for the first queens of the stone age lp
everything else was under $30.
"Post up a list with prices, you may have a few interested parties here."
This first small batch is going to be bargain basement, cheap to free, I'll make a list tonight. I just don't want to leave them on the sidewalk somewhere.
One thing that's guaranteed is that if Jon is involved there is no way you can't have fun. Can't wait for the next time the Waco Brother's (the mekons will probably be a little longer since they were just in Calif last Oct) are in town. Last time they practically blew up Spaceland and it was classic to be enthusiastically thanked by Jon, Dean, and Tracey at the exit for spasmodically jumping up and down during their set.
FYI, hold on to your copies of this guy. Apparently it's now out of print, and used CDs are selling for $50 on amazon. I bought mine a few years ago for $10 new... what the hell?
ALL GOVERNMENTS ARE LIARS AND MURDERERS (*sound of applause*)
Um, tell us more about this Secret Service thing please. How did they know about your anti-war rally past?
PC
01.30.08 - 7:34 pm
The secret service guy was actually not bad in an uncomfortable sort of way because he came escorted with a torrance police officer and asked me while smoking a cigarette outside (not on the balcony, on the parking lot) if I knew the balcony is shut down til the secret service notifies us (which was two hours after bush left). He did notice my time's up pin from the NYC republican convention and warned me not to go outside and then just took off. I found out outside, there's snipers pointing at the office window on the floor I work at from other buildings to protect the president.
Crass(stations of the crass),the pillows(runnershigh)and buzzcocks are always good to get me pumped up on a ride,But noth'n beats gramrabbit when you're cycling through the middle of nowhere at midnight 8^D
oh yeah, and slipknot is good for when you're runn'n from the cops
Slipknot = good for suburban teens with no life experience. Ha.
Gram Rabbit... I can't decide if I like them or not. I've seen 'em play a few times and each time I couldn't decide. The got the sexy front woman, so it's not all bad. I saw them at the echo, and some guy in the bathroom said "Nobody actually likes this band, they just wanna fuck the singer."
are we talking about slipknot the nu metal band or slipknot that released a 7" on revelation records in the early 90s?
the 3mp record isnt even supposed to exist on vinyl. they were pressed and then for some reason geffen decided to destroy them all. the band stole some and handmade some retarded packaging and old them at a few shows. theres a copy on the wall at amoeba for $200, so i dont think i overpaid at all. the only lp of theirs that im missing is the star.control.out 12'. but i dont really care enough about them any more to go out and look for it. the footage of their "reunion" at touch and go fest was terrible.
I was referring to slip knot the nu metal band(can't help it,I like the drumz)
and yeah, gram rabbit aint exactly that good Until you listen to there shit in the middle of the dessert in the middle of the night,it just fits.Like cheep mexican beer and chorizo
It's......It's......Well,it just is..some times it feels like you're stuck in bum fuck Egypt, other times it's like you're the center of the universe for psychos, criminals and degenerates, most of the time though is relaxing and slow,if you're into that sort of thing.Lots of marines, lots of tweakers, lots of low end losers ,lots crazy rockers and shakers, lots have half dead has beens and then you have you're Ye oldie desert rats ,retired airo space ,rednecks and last but not least, random reclusive LA artist's.right now thou,it's just cold, and windy
Assault with a deadly weapon? Oh noes! Look out rbi!
Groundhogs = super good rock album. Thanks for the recommendation. Folk? Rock? Good! Rich Man, Poor Man has the killer sound.
Dead Meadow is playing tonight at the Echo. CD release show for the new album. But pitchfork hasn't reviewed it yet, so I haven't been told whether I should like it or not.
queens of the stone age / the desert sessions do really good versions of eccentric man. but yeah, that record is fucking killer. theres no such thing as a bad power trio.
RBI, do you really think Feathers is a crappy record? Don't give me some answer about it being too much like their other stuff or mention rich kids and Orange amps. Straight up, do you really think those are lousy songs?
The one thing I DON'T care for about Dead Meadow is when the singer sounds too nasally on live recordings. Other than that I'm down with D.M.
Damn, the normally tepid All Music Guide was uncharacteristically nasty to the Groundhogs:
"The Groundhogs were not British blues at their most creative; nor were they British blues at their most generic. They were emblematic of some of the genre's most visible strengths and weaknesses. They were prone to jam too long on basic riffs, they couldn't hold a candle to American blues singers in terms of vocal presence, and their songwriting wasn't so hot."
I was looking for release dates and instead they kicked me in the balls.
Can anyone (read: ruinedbyidiots) make any recommendations for the Japanese label PSF records? I know there's gotta be some gold in there, I just don't have the time/patience to wade through all the experimental garbage. High Rise? White Heaven?
I'm pissed cuz I dropped $25 on a Fushitsusha record that sounds like someone knocks over a guitar every few minutes and yells something inaudible.
Invariably described by critics as a "sprawling" "epic," this is the most ambitious and probably the best project ever to spring from the mind of Sean O'Hagan, who may be better known at this point for his work with Stereolab (and, more recently, Super Furry Animals). Musically O'Hagan wears his influences proudly as usual--in this case, mostly Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson--while his impressionistic lyrics trace themes of American manifest destiny and tourism. Basically a kind of suite of conflicted love songs to America from a bemused outsider.
Ten years later, I think it's safe to say that Hawaii was the product of a moment in time when Sean O'Hagan's creativity and his access to record company money were both at their peak. So on this album his vision was fully realized in a way that it wasn't before, and hasn't been since, on his other projects, occasionally brilliant though some of them are.
So just go and listen to the thing, and if you don't like it I will kick you in the balls.
something to check out if you're keen on the sounds of panda bear and/or my morning jacket. it's like pop/new wave/prog-rock/psych with a dash of daydream flying, fresh meadows, and warm summer lakes and a hint of dance floor feet.
This album isn't as good as I want it to be. Frickin' Swedes, their rock always turns out sounding way too pop. With a name like "witchcraft" you'd expect things to be weird & metal.
witchcraft started out as a pentagram cover band. now, i love pentagram. and when i say love, i mean LOVE. like, favorite band ever status (next to motorhead and thin lizzy). i have the first two lps and they sound alot better than the alchemist. if you want i can sell.
Hmm... that's a pretty solid review right there for their other albums. i was really expecting to like these guys, the Alchemist is a bummer. Anyway, How much are you looking for say, their first one?
By the way, how is Velvet Cacoon Genevive? I've seen that record around a lot.
first witchcraft lp is super good! firewood is alright, but not as good as s/t.
i forgot to call you back about the velvet cacoon lp. i already own it. its got fucking velvet on the lp jacket. if you like your black metal to sound like my bloody valentine is playing it, BUY EVERY VELVET CACOON RECORD. do you want me to burn you vc cds to go with your new earth cdr? are you coming to crank mob? can you pick up a dvd from 333 since the both of you live in k-town? holla back.
I'm going to be out of town this 3-day weekend, but I look forward to whatever you got when I see ya.
Apparently 333 is pissed at me. Joey tried to get him to come to Venice on Tues, but he was like "is bingo gonna be there? Nah, I don't wanna ride with that fool." Ha ha, what a baby.
Cool, I'll grab that Velvet Cacoon disc then. I need some good stuff to make up for the Fushitsusha loss. And I'm embarassed to admit it, but I also got burned on an Orange Goblin purchase on the same day.
@meandmybluebike: yeah, so you're down some hearing, but you'll never see anybody rip a guitar like that ever again. At least until the next time we go see Entrance. ---> Worth it. (Forged hand stamps for the win!!)
ill try to rip a bunch of these sketchy psych cassettes ive got to cd. its hard to tell when one song stops and another one starts though, so it might get mislabeled. but you dont care.
Proto-punks from Phoenix in 1977, the Consumers combined wonderfully mean-spirited, irreverent and mordantly funny lyrics with high powered stop-start buzzsaw rock, and the result was...well, a bunch of harrowing live gigs and an album that didn't actually get released for almost twenty years.
Phoenix being (to put it mildly) a dead end for an ambitious young punk rock band in the late seventies, the Consumers moved to LA, did a lot of drugs, and fell apart. Guitarist Paul Cutler took his considerable skills (and a bunch of the songs on this album) with him to a little band you may have heard of called 45 Grave. David Wiley went on to become a founding member of Human Hands, a reconstituted version of which played at the Ann Summa reception at Track 16 that some of you attended (but without Wiley--he died some time in the eighties).
genevieve and northsuite? good call. other recommendations? i dunno, i really dont listen to that much black metal.
immortal - diabolical fullmoon mysticism
darkthrone - transilvanian hunger
mayhem - de mysteriis dom sathanas
venom - black metal (i think possessed is the best, but black metal is a classic)
anateus - cut your flesh and worship satan
funeral mist - salvation
There's some black metal bands playing at the Mountain Bar tonight in Chinatown. My friend Pete's band is playing. He has Sunn's "O)))" logo tattooed on the back of his neck. He's so cool. I'm going to go, and try to get Cole to come with (shhh... he doesn't know yet)
I'll be like "let's go get a beer in Chinatown"
And then "Oh look, black metal bands. Let's stay and listen"
And he'll be like "fuck that, I'm out."
And I'll be like "sorry dude I locked my bike to yours, you're staying"
Speaking of Sunn, if the term "druid metal" hasn't been coined yet, I'm coining it, bitches. druid metal = coined!
Yeah, there is some good stuff in music thread 2. Who knew Borfo likes Beefheart and The Fall? That's cool. But my place is here.
I finally listened to RBI's Nigheist upload last night. I love the last handful of songs on that album rather than the overproduced shit at the beginning.
"Fuck the world
fuck you all
you ain't shit
you're gonna fall"
But, turrican, I do have better musical taste than any of you, and I can't show it off to maximum advantage if this shit is going to be all spread out between two threads.
weve imbedded so much stuff that it wont load on my computer at home.
any boris fans wear a small tshirt? ive got one with gold ink ripping off the venom logo id sell you for $20.
turrican: OK, you're obviously hell bent on having this stupid conversation, so fine, let's have it:
"Eh, this thread or the other thread, nobody really gives a shit anyways. They're either:
a. nostalgic.
b. jackoffery about how you know about a more obscure band than the one mentioned in a previous post. "
I give a shit, that's why I post here, others give a shit, that's why they post here, and you give a shit, that's why you're throwing this dumb little tantrum here.
a. Nostalgia: we're talking about music we like, past and present, old and current. Furthermore PC, RBI, and others have introduced me to a dozen new bands I really like. How exactly is discovering a new band you've never heard of nostalgic?
b. Jackoffery: how exactly is asking other people for recommendations jackoffery?
Now that I've disposed of your dumbass statements, what about you? You either:
a. are legitimately bothered by this music discussion, which makes you a crybaby with an inferiority complex.
b. think it's funny to troll post, which puts you on par with Knittens (i.e. an annoyance which makes this site not fun.)
So go play with your poo poo somewhere else.
Oh look at that, it's 5:30, I'm off work. See y'all Monday!
@City Hobgoblin: "turrican: OK, you're obviously hell bent on having this stupid conversation"
I didn't know it was supposed to end up as a conversation - but if you insist...
"I give a shit,"
That much is obvious.
"others give a shit, that's why they post here,"
Right, can't argue with that.
"and you give a shit,"
Ehhh, not really. Some, though. Mostly, I was just trying to weed out people who just post obscure bands in order to be obscure (believe me, I'm ALL about obscure and rare - you don't even know!)
"that's why you're throwing this dumb little tantrum here."
That's incorrect. Calling what I post a "dumb little tantrum" implies two things:
1. You're offended by what I have to say (which seems to be the case)
2. That I give a shit about anyone's musical taste (which, really, I don't)
"a. Nostalgia: we're talking about music we like, past and present, old and current."
Cool! Ask anyone who knows me - I'm *all* about nostalgia, good stuff, and sharing it with others. In fact, check my earlier post, the one with the Eero Saarinen pic? I'm a total fanboy. And the a-ha one? A funny pic, but it's troof - my favorite band (please, don't get me started about the various atrocious covers of "Take On Me"...)
"Furthermore PC, RBI, and others have introduced me to a dozen new bands I really like."
Again, cool! I don't know why anything I say/said would diminish any of that. Did it?
"How exactly is discovering a new band you've never heard of nostalgic?"
Did I say that? I missed it, maybe you could quote me?
"b. Jackoffery: how exactly is asking other people for recommendations jackoffery?"
Again, could you refer me to the part where I said asking for recommendations is jackoffery?
"Now that I've disposed of your dumbass statements,"
Did you?
"You either: a. are legitimately bothered by this music discussion"
Not really. I'm just bored on a Friday afternoon.
"which makes you a crybaby with an inferiority complex."
I guess this doesn't apply - but still - if I were bothered by this discussion, it seems you're implying that it would be because the opinions in it are superior to mine..?
"b. think it's funny to troll post,"
I don't troll post. I simply state what I'm thinking at the time. It *is* different.
"which puts you on par with Knittens (i.e. an annoyance which makes this site not fun.)"
No, it doesn't. My posts are relatively on-topic. And again, just because my statements pissed you off - that doesn't make me a troll.
"Oh look at that, it's 5:30, I'm off work. See y'all Monday!"
I certainly hope you never complain about your pay rate.
Don't know where it is, I mentioned it in some random thread and MR uploaded it. Yes, it has "Walking Down the Street". I'll put it up later if MR doesn't.
One of the bands I saw at the aforementioned show on Friday was Indian, from Chicago. Freakin intense.
(Now THAT's a badass album cover ---> )
@turrican:
your rebuttal is so weak, I'm content not to take this any further. But I don't appreciate you insinuating that I'm spoiled or whatever you are trying to accomplish with this little ad hominem:
"I certainly hope you never complain about your pay rate."
Take it easy on the personal attacks. It creates bad vibes.

I'm finally doing what most of you probably did over a decade ago... ripping my CD's and selling them!!! Amoeba is picky about the cases not being scratched and books not being jizzed on... so I am offering Ridazz first dibs on my rejected CD's! (er...2nd dibs, after amoeba... oh yeah and maybe penny lane. ;) Anyhoo. It's good stuff... then again I <3 NKOTB! for reals....
So basically you will be offering a bunch of garbage that Amoeba and Penny Lane deemed not worth the shelf space. Gee thanks. I can't wait to pick through those titles.
Ohhh CH.... there is some garbage, yes, but you might like at least two CDs....
TO SEE DEEZ NUTS!!!
jajajajaja
man oh man... I am embarrassed that I had to drag you into that.
I cannot say why, besides the cracked jewel cases, and faded booklets, they would not want my Babes in Toyland CD's or a Decade of Steely Dan... or Dolly Parton... I just don't know. :/ I even got most of them FROM Amoeba! whats up w/ that!?
