Reducing body fat

So, does anyone have any good ideas for reducing body fat other than riding a lot and not eating too much crap?

I've noticed that since joining C.R.U.T.C.H. MOB I've... err... expanded into new markets. I'm not as hungry as I was, so eating less, but still, I've probably put on a good ten pound o' bloat in the last few months.

Oh yeah, the catch is, I can't ride, run or even really walk practically right now. Is waiting til I can ride hard again (probably another month) my only option? Or should I try something like eating 3/4 the usual amount of food or something.

I dunno, I know I gotta burn more calories than I eat, it's just trickier when ya ain't riding.

Don't worry about it and let your self go. Better than being stressed out about it.

Drink massive amounts of heavy beer, like Guinness to really put on the pounds, and to help you not care about what your doing.

When you can ride/exercise again, just do situp's all day and ride 10~15 miles on the bike.

Then you'll look like Lance in a month.

The best thing to do is eat 5-6 small meals a day (small being b/t 250-400 calories)

Avoid banannas, soda (stick to water), added sugars and hydrogenated oils.

Try to eat as many foods fromt he earth as possible, preferrbly greens.

Also, allow yourself 3 hours between ur last meal and sleep.

That's what I've been doing (I'm also a vegan) and it has been working. My acupuncturist also recommended I drink dandelion root tea in the morning and evening.

PLUS DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER

this is easier said then done, but the more you drink the less you will want to eat, and it will help the fat fall off.. I have seen it done, It just take a little discipline.

Don't worry about it while you're healing. Exercise is key to loosing weight. If you can't, then just try not to pig out too much while you're down, and in a month's time you'll be back on the bike.

I actually got back into riding years back when I was recovering from a bad knee surgery / staff infection. Months and months before I could even run, I was out already on the road bike doing easy spins.

other than the accurate info already posted, simply AVOID processed and fast food. if it's wrapped or bottled in plastic, stay away. if it has a drive through window attached, stay away. it's that simple and that difficult.

fat is only burnt during cycling when you're working at around 70%. Above 80% (don't shoot me if my numbers are a bit off, i don't have my reference materials on hand) you're doing an aerobic workout and only burning glycemic sugars. Less than 70%, you're not really doing much of anything. so, if you look toward cycling as a weight loosing tool, consider getting a polar heart monitor.

weight training is great for loosing fat. unlike cycling which burns fat only during the exercise itself, lifting weights continues to burn fat after the workout as your metabolism adjusts to repair and grow muscle.

i avoid sugar (except on rides), wheat, and most dairy. and even then i have a hard battle.

-Try low-impact exercises like the easier yoga poses. Just do something, don't feel like you need the perfect workout.

-Eat like a diabetic. Keep the refined sugars way down, have sensible portions of stuff like pasta. Eat brown bread with lots of whole grains and seeds in it. Drink water instead of soda. Don't prohibit stuff, just cut way down.

-Eat smaller amounts of very satisfying food. Embrace the law of diminishing returns: that first sip of beer and the that first bite of ice cream is the best, it's all downhill from there.

-This might be blasphemy, but just cut down on booze. Don't drink a case every night. Have good, slightly more expensive draft beers that you can savor instead of chug.

Cribbed from Michael Pollan: Eat from the outside aisles in a market. The shit in the middle is all processed. Don't anything that your grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. Watch out for corn derivatives, like high fructose corn syrup. Avoid that shit like the plague.

Eat a lot of pizza when super hungry. Do all kinds of rides, whether critical masseses, social rides, or fast paced rides. One 30-40 mile ride should burn pretty much any extra calories you're ingesting.

Do not take the bus to work more than 4 times a week. Never ever drive (a car). Dips, pullups, lightweight curls once or twice a week. Maybe swim or run once a week on top of all the cycling.

And only drink Hite beer.

More protein + more lifting weights. (Nutribiotic Brown Rice Protein is awesome if you're vegan.)

The more muscle mass you have, the faster your metabolism is, so the more extra fat you burn.

It's about 70-80% diet / 20-30% exercise though.
