1. Q: Where does the money go?
A: Shitters, unless you like pooping in a hole or like holding
that shit in, you will need to poop.
2. Q: What about the $0.57?
A: Paypal charges 4.9% + $0.30 in service charges. Lame, I know, but until someone finds a cheaper ONLINE alternative, this is it.
3. Q: What about any money left over?
A: We're burning it. Literally. There won't be much but the rest
will go towards gas & wood. Then beer. Then bacon.

By the way, for people who are still wondering - the scouting trip is happening this coming weekend. The plan is still to get the directions / coordinates of the camp site to people who have paid. Those directions / coordinates will be ready after the scouting trip.

Seriously Allen? Do I have to explain this all to you?
I know it wouldn't seem fair to to have to pay a ton of money in gas, to bring your own pooper, and still have to pay $5. Would it?
But on the same note, it wouldn't seem fair to others that paid the $5, to see someone use their pooper, when you have your own.
And some people poop more than others! So how do you break down those costs without it getting all granular with pennies and change?
Some would say that figuring out those costs would waste more time, and cost more money to figure out, than to say, throw out a round number that is well within the means of someone that already has to spend a bit more than $5 to get across the desert.
The money is going to more than just potties. Whatever is left is going to wood, and fuel to get some things that EVERYONE can use (even those with their own food, fire-pits, wood & potties.)
It's not like any of us are getting rich from this, in fact most of us have spent a lot of time and money to put together a trip for you, and our friends. $5 isn't going to cover all the wood and transportation. But it's going to cover the costs of the Potties, for sure ... or at least.
So, to keep things simple and affordable, a flat fee of $5 is all we're asking. Feel free to criticize it. Feel free to do whatever you want. No one is going to stop you.
Or, keep it simple, and pay the $5 and have fun at the Salton Sea with all your friends.
I wish you would quit trying to make it a bigger deal that it really is.

$5 per person to camp with us, whether you bring a pooper or not. People are putting a lot of time into organizing this, scouting it, reserving things such as porta potties, etc... It's not too much to ask. Let's just pay up and not complain about the $5.

The $5 is for more than just potties.
If you can't afford the $5, you should really re-consider coming on this trip. It's as simple as that. Basically this trip costs a LOT MORE THAN $5 a person.
If you can't pay the $5, fine. Shit in a hole. I don't care, just not near me. But that the only thing I will feel justified in enforcing - no shitting in hole near me.
Others will see things differently. Some will call you a cheapskate. Some will call you a free-loader. That's their prerogative.
I'll just state my own opinion. I have to pay this $5 too. I'm not exempt from this. I still have to pay for my gas, buy some wood, and some food. I'm also going to help set up the camp, and tear it down on Monday. I'm going to help keep this camp clean, and keep the fire going at night. I'm even going to make you some breakfast on Sunday.
All I've ever asked for is some help and $5 to pay for some wood and a place to shit. Is it really that big of a deal? I hope not.
That's all I'm going to say about this.

The shitter list is a good way to see who all that is coming. And personally I would post up a list of the people that paid and blaster that on the shitter. This way we know who the freeloaders are. But then again, that's just me.
