Commutazz

ok this idea has been thrown around here and there on this site, and someone even tried doing a mass commute ride a while back. but why dont we see if we can do it? lets start a Commutazz ride. that is, morning and evening, north south east west routes that meet at a specified time with the goal of grouping 5-15 (or more) cyclists to work where they would normally be driving. we can start with one day a week. see if there is any interest. my suggestion would be to plan it along a street that has reasonable aamounts of bicycle infrastructure like SM blvd..... a group of 3-8 cyclists rolling along at avg15mph would get you east to west in about an hour. 15minutes longer than by car.... it would be safer and more motivating than going it alone. lets plan this out!
I know a lot of people from the east work on the west side. how about setting up a route that would act like a bus, you just hop on the morning Commutazz ride.
gimme some start points and destinations. I bet a lot of people would hit santa monica over to 24th. start at 8.30 get you there by 9.30
any west siders work on the east side or downtown?

I normally go from down town to the far east (Duarte). But I'll follow folks anywhere as to show solidarity as fellow commutazz for a few days.

wow downtown to duarte? map your route and post it here. you never know. there might be others who roll roughly the same direction. to all Ridazz lets post any and all work routes that you have. from there we can haze together the most common routes and solidify some Commutazz routes. eventually I'll make a section for it on the site as a way for people to group up on their commute rides. even though my work route consists of a 4 block ride... I still wish I had some fellow commutazz to keep me company. :)

This is my route from East Hollywood to Westchester every Monday night.
I usually leave the Hollywood area about 5 pm and make the return trip around 10 pm.
If anybody works a 9 to 5er and needs to go from Hollywoodish to Culver City, Westchester, Marina del Rey, etc. hit me up.
.....
Great idea RB!

I'm down for a north/south route. I commute from San Pedro to downtown LA (80%-90% of the time by bus). If anyone's interested I would definitely join them to commute 1 or 2 days a week by bike. We could hook up on any of those major arteries running parallel to the 110 freeway (Vermont, Figueroa, Main/Broadway, Western ...). Unfortunately I have to be in at 8:00 am so my morning commute would have to start pretty damn early....

Rad idea. I'm going just once a week, on Fridays, but it would be great to have company.
I normally from the top of Silver Lake to Sunset to Fountain then stairstep down to Wilshire and Santa Monica and take the 720 Rapid to Bundy and Wilshire. Today I took 4SBB, met a friend for breakfast at Doughboys, then took Gregory to Wilshire and Santa Monica.

Totally rad! I'm soooooooo into this.
I would love to ride to work and start the day out with endorphins instead of the freakin stress hormones I get from driving my car.
And the main reason I don't bike to work is because I'm afraid to get hit by bleary-eyed drivers that aren't expecting cyclist on the rode in the morn.
I am Silverlake to Mid Wilshire/Miracle mile.

I love the idea of a group commute. Trouble is our spread out grid of a basin. I bike 4 times a week from East Long Beach to Anaheim. Anyone who works at Disneyland up for this??? I don't toil at the mouse house, but close by.
I'm rolling east on Ball Road from 6:50 to 7:30am M,Tu,Thr & F most weeks. Going home the same route mostly, 5:20 to 6:00pm, but I'm flexable. Hey, if someone wants to bike pool, I have a tandem!!!

I'll be amazed, if there is two people that will be able to connect on a ride like this
Prove me wrong and throw it in my face.
Suggestion, since I won't be participating;,
post your route, time and day, see who shows up.
Don't worry about responses, or waiting for people.
Happen stance by chance rolls much smoother.

Awesome idea. I don't have much a commute, so I should be riding to work more than twice a week. If anyone knows a safer route or if you travel in the same direction, hit me up!

well, i don't commute anywhere near that area, but I do know the area, if you take kenmore down to monroe or melrose, you could avoid santa monica (even if you are only riding it for 3 or four blocks, and virgil's not that bad of a ride.

i go from culver city to downtown every day after work just straight down venice, man it sure gets hairy at certain portions of it, riding in a group always feels much safer, will be checking this spot for more info if it happens, thanks!

I take Sunset Bl from Hollywood/Los Feliz to DTLA every morning and back again in the evenings. It'd be great to hook up with others.
In response to the Bike Talk Bike Bus discussion someone created a Google spreadsheet for people to enter their routes. I entered mine.

RIDAZZ,
The BIKE BUS will be doing a beta launch July 11-15. The more people who participate, the better.
Here's the link to the BIKE BUS DATABASE -
http://goo.gl/96iP5
You don't have to put down your personal info, just include your commute route details and possibly some way to contact you so we can try this baby step of an idea that can grow into something bigger in the future.
If you can't join the Bike Bus project, at least try to commute to work these days if you don't do so already!
