PANTS!!!
Thread started by jonnyboy at 07.29.08 - 12:33 am

PANTS PANTS PANTS!!!!@@!!!

I need bike pants for commuting!!!!

Knickerpants!!!

I have found that jeans suck during the summer. I see a lot of 3 quarter length pants goin on everywhere and they look like a good blend of form & function. Is there a good solution pricewise or do I really need to pay 80 buckaroos for these PANTS from O20?

Did I mention screaming PANTS is fun not only over the interwebs but also in person?

SMASH PANTS GOOSE!!!!

I got some from H&M for like $28.

Or just take some old pants that you are board of and cut off the bottom 1/4.

Long ago and far away, I had a friend named Will, and Will had a theory: The three funniest words in the English language are monkey, bacon, and pants.

He would regularly shout PANTS for no ostensible reason other than it was the most shoutable of the three funniest words in the English language. He would occasionally shout MONKEY, and BACON too, usually at vegetarians, such as the patrons we served in our vegetarian restaurant, god bless him. But PANTS was the top shout-earner by a landslide.

I hope you find the pants you're looking for. When you do, you can be sure you will hear a chorus of people shouting PANTS as you bike by. And by "a chorus of people" I mean "me." In honor of Will Capel, may he rest in peace.

This has got to be the longest and most-involved "bump" in the history of "bumps." It also references a dead guy. Do I get some kind of credit for that? Comic book store credit would be ideal, but I'm not so picky.

I need to meet this friend of yours named Will.

Long long ago in the city of Columbus Ohio I discovered (with the help of a fellow employee at a lame interactive company) that shouting the word "PANTS" in combination with other words was not only extremely satisfying but strangely entertaining.

Your bump has the utmost validity. There is just something about the way that it rolls off the tongue. I don't know what it is. Screaming PANTS is seriously contagious when you have the right company.

I prefer to add "SMASH", "GOOSE", "RASH", "BLISTERING", or "BASH" before a good PANTS

The true key to its success is having someone to bounce the core word back at you.

My college girlfriend also found the words pants to be extremely amusing. But, when asked for an explanation, all she would offer was, "Pants sounds like fancy."

You can't argue with logic like that.

a.) theroyalacademy, that image is amazing.
b.) I fully intent to respond to the best and most serious of my abilities, even at this late hour, on the topic of pants. Carhartt's. I swear tomatoes was wearing a pair of short, fitted Carhartt's at brunch on Sunday. At least they looked like Carhartt's. Also, Jesse K. is forever in short pants (PANTS), and he's a nice dude. He'll probably let you in on his PANTS secrets if you ask. (But he's not on the forum.)
c.) You can't meet Will. I wasn't kidding about the "may he rest in peace." Will died in 2005. The world's loss.
d.) theroyalacademy, you really can't argue with logic like that. But then when you're talking about the merits of the word PANTS in relation to other shoutable words, I tend to put logic underneath some furniture. Just for a while.

I think the British have it right re: pants. It is best used as an adjective, roughly interchangeable with rubbish (which is also an awesome adjective).

Try it:

--The MR forum threads lately have been totally pants.

--Indeed. Not to mention all the rubbish ideas that people are proposing for ride themes...

--Shall we have some tea, then?

--Yes. Let's.

Dude, we just watched that episode of X-Files with the inbred family with the mother on the cart under the bed and, let me tell you, it is not a good idea to put your logic under that family's furniture, because the scary inbred mother will EAT IT. And what will you do when you need your logic then? Nothing! That's what. You'll just have to ask the inbred mother. And she doesn't have any feet, let alone logical answers to your questions. She'll just keep jibber-jabbering about family values. FAMILY VALUES, I TELLS YA! So, alls I'm saying is you best keep your logic in your pocket, or in a mason jar on the shelf, and leave the spaces under furniture for inbred mothers and the like.

I've been wearing a pair of cut off dress pants I got at Salvation Army last year. They cost 1.50 and you can wear them for a few months straight without any tearing. They are nice and light and if you want you can reinforce and experiment with little risk. This is the most economical option, Kyber has fancy pants perhaps he could give you a review.

I'm a good test bed for clothing since once it goes on it doesn't come off for a good amount of time.

I look for nylon or light cotton PANTS in thrift stores, and cut off the legs, hem the ends and run a thin shoe string through the hems. Buy a "cinch thingy" at a soprts store to clinch the shoe string (now drawstring) below the knee.
This pair cost $3 including the "cinch thingy".
Look for cargo pants, with pockets on the side of the leg. They work best for carrying stuff while cycling.
During the summer, I switch to light weight shorts (with cargo pocket) I find in the same thrift shops.
For winter night riding, I have a pair of nylon cargo pants which I did not cut off. Just roll up the legs, and roll them down when it gets cold.

Holy crap this is the BEST THREAD IN WEEKS I tell you!
Although I must say, I really thought somebody on the ALC team would have started it, since PANTS was a big thing with us. We use the word interchangeably with the word 'excited'... and I believe it's because i have a habit of saying 'excited pants' which just turned into plain 'pants'. But close to the AIDS LifeCycle ride we'd have strings of gmail threads that were nothing but the word PANTS in different colors and sizes.
Why is that word so unanimously entertaining?

What kind of fool would pay $80 for a pair of pants?!?!?

I don't get how manpris are any better than jeans. When I sweat (which happens a lot in summer), even shorts tend to ride down as they grip on your sweaty legs. I'm thinking short shorts are the way to go. Or maybe a kilt.

canadienne, my sister used to add "pants" to words! And "head," as in "Rad-head!" This was in "Reality Bites"-era 1990s. Now, she dated Will, the guy who shouted PANTS, which is how I came to open up a vegetarian restaurant with his bacon-loving self, which is how I came to know all this.

PANTS.

The rest of the time since, I've been wearing normal-sized Dickies and denim with those cool belts with the stenciled buckles.

Hell, I've been thinking of getting two more so I could wear my initials on my belt.

While it is sometimes not the best place for pants (since they don't have a dressing room and you just have to guess if things will fit you; unless you're willing to just try on pants in the aisle, as I've seen people do), the best thrift store I've found in town is VALLEY THRIFT at the corner of Lankershim and San Fernando.

theroyalacademy

One way to check if PANTS will fit your waist is to wrap the waist of the PANTS around your neck. The circumference of your neck is just about half that of your waist, & since the circumference of the waist of the PANTS is halved when the button's done up, it's a good way to check without taking off your PANTS.

Turns out your neck's a little less than half, so if you can overlap about an inch or so of fabric, they should fit. You look insane doing it, but it works.

This might only work for chicks. Any confirmation of this trick from a dude?

Don't wear pants, ever. We are in Southern California. Just wear shorts and rock leg/knee warmers underneath. When you get into discussing capris or whatever you'd call just-below-the-knee pants, you might as well turn to spandex for the lower half of the leg.

Some leg warmers come in awesome materials like 3M Illuminite and they make you more visible at night. If I didn't have a full time job, I'd put all my effort into marketing the next generation of leg and arm warmers, making them all stylish and stuff.
