I bought a four-wheeler
Thread started by bentstrider at 05.20.08 - 6:59 am

So, after 2.5 years of not owning a motor-vehicle, I finally made a purchase on an '05, Ford Escape on Sunday.
Aside from occassional, down-the-hill trips, I didn't really purchase it for myself.
Apparently, my mother never fully understood the reason why, and how I managed to live without a car for that long.
But, the fact of the matter is that I myself have doubts to whether she could pull that off at her age.
So, this is essentially for her, that way she could get to medical appointments, take care of citizenship/legality issues(been in the US since I was born, but still maintains permanent-residence status), and other errands.

So, despite the good intentions, I feel like my guilty-conscience dragged me back into a realm I managed to wean myself off of.

But, at the same time, I don't see myself becoming addicted to it like I might've become.

awww mama strider! she should be so proud of you! =)

so you could be on 2, 4, or 16 wheels at any given time... maybe you need a pair of roller skates! or a tricycle?

Sadly, I still don't know how to blade, or skate.
But, a tadpole-trike is in the works for the near-future.

the DMV will cancel your registration if you don't keep an insurance policy on your vehicle. if you're not using the car, why not sell it?

He can register it for a very small yearly fee as non-operational. Like your brain! Ha, ha, ha!

I am kidding you, because we are friends!

it's a 1973 vw thing....never breaks down. had it for over 15 years now. convertible. never gonna sell it.

to keep the policy active for when i want to drive again, i'm paying $8/year for "comprehensive".

for those who ride more than you drive, i'd recommend telling your insurance how many miles you actually drive. i was rated at 1000 miles/year (minimum for 21st century) and i was paying $290/year. now it's $8/year until i wanna drive. most people are rated at 1000 miles/month (12,000/year) and that's why people are paying so much. If you drive 1/2 as much as you used to, you should pay accordingly. you may have to give them odometer readings periodically if they ask.

I just got quoted $1300/year for the Escape I just got.
I actually thought it was going to be a little more, but that relieved me a bit.
However, the pay I'll be getting from driving a truck will help out a whole lot.
I'll be able to take care of that, and pay for pizza/alcohol when requested.
