Anyone here old enough to remember Odyssey? or 321? or even Oskos? or better yet White Trash a go go?
bonus points to anyone who remembers the circumstances why Odyssey closed.

Hapihaus was cooler than all of the aforementioned clubs put together.

Madame Wong's East you forgot....never went to the anti club, starwood or club 88 (now liquid kitty)....saw a bunch of bands at raji's...KING KING was always my favorite. Red Devils, Jump with Joey, and Royal Crown Revue when the Stern Brothers were in the band.
Saw Black Flag and Saint Vitus at a matinee show at the Music Machine around 1982 - 1984.

that's what i thought he was referring to. i only went to east once to see my friends band play there. 2 other people showed up for them. from what i recall it was upstairs and very dark.

Yes, the one in Chinatown ("East") was the original Madame Wong's where they started having punk rock and new wave music in 1978 at the behest of Paul Greenstein (that's another story). It was upstairs in the plaza just off Broadway. The building is still there, last time I looked nothing was going on in there but it appeared they might have been remodeling.
Madame Wong's West opened slightly later, but I never went there.
