BIKE Stolen at Unemployed Ride
Thread started by davidco at 02.10.08 - 3:43 am

MY BIKE WAS STOLEN at the Unemployed ride. I pulled off early to take care of a drunken rider.

I used to ride a 60 cm 2006 redline 925 fixed gear with Bullhorn bars and tektro brakes on the ends and without fenders. Its a black bike with REDLINE going down the down tube.

If you see anything about this on those websites or on the streets please email me at

thelimitedcircleispure@gmail.com

I'm having a shitty day.

I hate when this happens to anyone.
I like the code of the west, when they used to hang horse thieves.
Hang all bike swippers!
I am on craigs list daily looking for a job. I always cruise the bike listings, of course.
I will be on the lookout for your bike.

dude! that sucks! after all you did for us. i hung around until there were about five people lingering and your bike was still next to the electrical box. last i remember, you were walking toward you bike and i just assumed you were going to get it since the drunk dude's bike was already locked up.

man. who steals bikes? that sucks. I would never feel good about myself if I stole a bike. I mean Wallmart I can accept, but some persons special bike... does not compute.

I locked my bike up next to his but due to circumstances I had to do a rush job, I cabled my bike and u-locked his. I meant to go back to U-lock both of them to the pole, but that slipped my mind and after sobering Fernando up at Astro burger we got back to melrose and the cable was cut and my bike was gone. Shit man...

Is it just me, or has this shit been going on more frequently?
The perp obviously had to be some bike-nut if they were aware of the type of bike.
So, despite the loss, keep the head up and don't look down.
It couldn't have gotten that far from downtown.
With a little luck and detective work, you could spot it and take it back, at will.

That's why you never use a cable.

FWIW, when we were in Vegas last summer, we saw a couple of methed-out guys walking the strip with bolt cutters riding two bikes that looked far far too nice for them.

Always u-lock, no matter what.

@kyber
Cable's just a quickie, IMHO.
If anything, a cable should be strictly to keep your wheels from getting snatched.

Is there a pic posted somewhere so we know what to look for?

hey User1, Thanks for your concern sadly, I have no pics of the bike, Didn't get around to that... Anyhow its like the pic above except no fenders, and bullhorns with Tektro brakes. I also used a chain and innter tube to secure the seat to the bike. (The chain under the seat was wrapped in red duct tape.)

HUH? HOW AND WHY? ( I'm curious that way )

Bolt cutters can cut chains, locks and cables.
So I suggest a U-Lock, which can only be defeated with a sledgehammer or a cutting torch. I use both a cable and a U-lock. Since time is of the essence to a thief, such a combination will take too long and the risk of being discovered to great.

We are experiencing more thefts of bikes. The bad economy, the rising price of gasoline and the upward pressure on the price of a good bike are all contributing factors.

It is important to write down the serial number of your bike as well as take pictures. Also the LAPD has the mug shots of habitual bike thieves, maybe we should post some of them up here. A little back alley justice might be in order.
