Bicycle Building UBER INFO thread of awesomness

This thread is being started as a way to consolidate the plethora of information available on the internet about bikes, freak bikes, metal working, tools and (of course) the elusive Los Angelope. Please feel free to add any information you have, most likely this will never be a complete list, but at least we can try!!!!
Welding tips/tricks:
Most of us right now are using a MIG welder, so that's probably the best place to start....

DIY MIG Welding UK site with a lot of infomation, check out the "gasless welding tutorial" right now we're not using extra gas for welding (sloppy and harder to master, but cheeper)

in case you didn't read the links and are interested in your personal helth when welding;
DO NOT WELD GALVANIZED STEEL. It creates toxic fumes enough of which could send you to the hospital.

does anyone know where I can get really small road bike wheels/ tires / tubes? I don't want to give too much away... but yes, "mini" road bike wheels! donde?

Oh boy, are you in luck!
Bike Nashbar has these 12" tires at $4 and there rated at 60 psi! Quality tire at a blow out price!

E-rock, you don't want to weld galvi without some sort of ventilation because galvi contains zinc, basically, there's a list of cerain base metals you don't want to weld without preperation. Zinc kinda tops off that lsit for quick toxicity, and produces a yellow ish brownish greenish smoke when overheated, not something you want to breathe, but then again, all welding gives off ozone (that welding smell) which is not something you want to be breathing TOO much of... so wherever welding is done should eb well ventilated.

You can also buy a welding respirator (sort of like a high level dust mask) that will help protect you from those nasty fumes. I almost always weld outdoors, just be careful not to start any fires kids.
While we're on the subject of welding, if you can dig up the scratch for an auto-darkening helmet you will instantly become a happier and better welder; trust me.

you know, I've used both auto darkening and regular helmets, I actually prefer regular.
