Demand Later Trains!!
Thread started by Mr. Raymond at 11.1.06 - 7:08 pm

I've been hearing people talk about the trains not running late enough. We've got a lot of people coming from Long Beach, the Valley, the West Side, the East Side, everywhere. I know most people would rather not take their cars out to these rides.

The Valley is making a lot of noise and I'm sure we'll all be going out there more often, and if you're like me you don't want to take a bus! Whether its the Blue, Green, Red, or Gold line, they need to run later. A long ride home after a long ride, some partying, and alcohol can be painful.

customerrelations@metro.net

I've sent an email to show my concern for this issue, and I think you should too. Even if you don't ever ride any of these lines go ahead and send an email to help out a fellow rida.

The trains are fast, and actually kinda fun to ride on.

If the lines are there, why not USE THEM?! Other cities run their trains and subways later, so why not LA?

I'll second that. Here's what my email looked like:

Hello MTA,

I'm someone who is enjoying more of Greater Los Angeles becuase the Metro
subways and Orange Line get me there. Yes I can drive or sometimes ride a
bike, but the drunks are out on the road late at night and sometimes I'd
rather park in a Park and Ride lot than where the event is.

There is much to do into the late evening, but sometimes the events go past
1 AM. Would you consider Friday and Saturday night subway and Orange Line
service with general departures until 3 AM?

Thanks for your consideration

this is the response I got...

"Service on all lines was evaluated for passenger usage during the first half of 2005. The results were mixed. The Blue Line and the Red Line North Hollywood branch were performing at reasonable levels (in terms of passengers carried), while the Gold, Green and Red Wilshire/Western branch were not meeting reasonable expectations (some trips carrying less than 10 passengers total). Upon staff recommendation, the decision was made by the
Board of Directors to cut the night service on those three services, by the one hour that was extended in 2002, and maintain the one hour on the Blue and Red North Hollywood service. Certain lines run late and are available online www.metro.net.

At this time, there is no consideration for expanding services to 24 hours on the rail system. The topic of night service expansion may be re-visited in the future. For now, the only overnight service we offer is New Years Eve (all lines).
