what do you guys thinks of their internal hubs. a single speed look with gears.
is it reliable?

I prefer the Alfine from Shimano.
Nexus Red label are good too.
Archers are a little more clunky and do not have the crisp feel of the Shimano's.

If you really want to be kewl you should check out the Stormy SX3 a 3 speed fixed hub. or go old school. They brought back the 2 speed kick back coaster hub....

infinitely more reliable than a normal derailleur setup. i have a 40 year old sturmey archer that works perfectly. the only maintenance or adjustment it needs is a little oil squirted in its hole.

A single speed what?

Vintage 3-speeds can work forever. I don't know about the new shit. My oldest 3-speed hub is a 1960. I ride a 1969 all the time and my tallbike has a 1978. All AW-3, the most common sturmey archer.

Bummer if that little chain breaks. Oil port is a great feature.

It's not Sturmey, but if you wanna see the magic stuff inside hub gears, here you go: http://www.sram.com/_media/pdf/sram/dealers/SRAM_Sparepartscatalog_ghs_MY07.pdf

Try figuring out what the parts do just by looking at them and come back with your brain intact.
