Pasadena Vintage Lightweight Ride
Thread started by NixonTwin at 12.3.07 - 1:08 pm

Does anybody here have any info on this ride? It is listed in the Bikeboom calendar for the first Sunday of every month, starting from the Rose Bowl. I rode down there yesterday morning to do the ride, and I couldn't find anybody for that ride (there were lots of spandexers in this years' carbo-titanium Bianchis, but no groups of riders and no older bikes).

If the ride has fizzled out, I'd be interested in starting it up again. The idea was a pre-1985 bike (the "vintage" part) on an easy Sunday morning ride of 15 to 25 miles (the "lightweight" part), ending with breakfast after. Obviously, you could ride any bike (no Ridazz turned away for bringing modern hardware).

Any interest in this kind of ride?

dave -

Thanks for the info - that's a cool site. Do you know if they still do the ride? The starting point listed on the retro site is different than what bikeoom had.

They meet in the parking lot next to the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center and roll out at 11 a.m. sharp.

I try to go to this every month. The route is nice and so are the bikes and the riders. They know tons but in general are not snobs at all. It's mostly older dudes, but they are very strong riders. If you can keep up with them up Sierra Madre, props!

I get via the Gold Line.

How old is considered vintage? Does an old '83 12-speed qualify? Pasadena is pretty close to where I live. I would be interested in something like this. I would love to break out my first "real" bike. That is if it's still at my folk's house!

Everyone is encouraged to bring and ride a 1985 or earlier bicycle, but feel free to ride anything you have.

The guy who makes the bike knickers that I am wearing right now hosts this ride....http://www.bicyclefixation.com.

Richard is a 15+(?) year veteran of a car free life.

Check out his website:

I'm interested in doing this ride too. Anybody know Chuck Schmidt? I was told that he is one of the organizers...

Which Goldline exit?

While the bicycle fixation guy (and his knickers, available at O20, and website) are great, the vintage ride is a chuck schmidt presentation.

Oops--I am mistaken about the guy who organizes this ride...
