Hey guys and gals,
Ive been thinking about taking one of the many ride posted up here but i got a few questions.
1. How long does the average ride last? I consider myself in good shape but i am not used to long rides.
2. How fast do i need to go to keep up with the group? (on average)
Thanks.

Lizzard,
What you need to question is your liver going to survive our rides!?!?!?
Naw seriously there's all levels of rides. The party type rides are 15-20 miles and is a chilled pace. If you can do 15-20 miles at about 15 mph, you shouldn't have any trouble with the social rides.

15mph ???
Alan, did you mean 1.5mph ?
At the crankmob yesterday we did 10 miles in 6 hours.
But I woke up with the worst hangover.
People kept handing me beers all night.
Original poster,
when a ride is fast it's spelled out in its description.
If something is too fast for you to handle, you'll know in the first 2-3 miles and can just turn back.

Or, if you're at a social ride and find yourself riding circles around the bulk of the ridazz, then a fast one might be up your alley.
I found this out on the Haunted Ride when I kept switching positions from "front-to-back-to-center.
Or, keeping up on a fast-paced ride with a 26" MTB, while everyone else was sporting 700c's

Marino,
I didn't necessarily mean that we roll at 15 mph. It's just a standard that if most people can do 15-20 miles at around 15 mph, then they should be able to do the vast majority of the rides posted.
Yeah CRANK MOB was off the hook last night!!!

try the smaller rides first if you have doubts...
Don't go to the Choppercabras events, they are brutal, people bleed.

If you want a good beginner ride, go to the Toys & Mittens ride on Dec. 1st, or any of the rides sponsored by C.I.C.L.E (Ciclists Inciting Change through Live Exchange).
Toys & Mittens Ride:

This will kick of their Bikes in the City: Urban Expeditions ride series. Bikes in the City: Urban Expeditions, is a new series of monthly encouragement rides, sponsored by REI, aimed at getting people out of their cars and onto their bikes for a cleaner, greener city.
Their rides are the most beginner friendly of the rides I've been on in Los Angeles.

i'd suggest starting off with social rides. the midnight ridazz rides are a great start. pretty soon 10 miles will feel like 5, 15 like 10 and so on and so forth.
after that if you feel like you want a step up, there are other medium-fast paced rides that happen late at night through out southern california. just takes research on your part.
enjoy discovering.
