bike lights

i had a planet bike super flash... for $25 you think you would get something made better

that thing popped off of its bracket or just opened up too many times

the last time it got run over by a car SQUASH!

any recommendations for a better light?

reply

the performance brand:

Viewpoint, which is knock off version of the super flash, is better in my opinion.

I own one, and they are nearly identical in performance, but I think the Viewpoint has more side visibility... and its less expensive.

Also, almost all tail lights mounted with the included hardware, are pretty much bound to fall off on Los Angeles streets (just too many f-ed up roads),

Good idea for new industry. Surgically implanted lights in your rear section. Very alt for all you body modification types, and you will never loose your light.

ive mentioned before on another thread about "Reelights".

http://www.reelight.com/

I have a set on my commuter, and they are very well worth the money. Google reviews if you want.

They are east to set up
They wont fall off your bike (unless you crash)
You dont have to worry about forgetting them
they dont use batteries
better for environment

There are draw backs

use on multiple bikes
Not as bright as other lights (but bright enough to be seen)
panniers can interfere

One thing to keep in mind, is that these lights work as long as the bike is being ridden. Which means, as we sometimes find ourselves... if you stayed at happy hour too long, and you have to ride at night... You have a set already mounted.

Worth checking out.... ive used them for over a year now... or maybe less than a year... anyhow...

The SL-120 (or better) are the way to go. get the set with the built in capacitor.

Other than that... learning how to make your own lights seems to be the way to go.

sorry...

just looked at the reelight site for the first time in a while...

they have a new version out

SL-500

which can mount to your handlebars or seatpost... seems dope.

peace

That's true, the SuperFlash has a tendency to fall apart. IMHO, it's still the best rear light out there but I just wrapped a small but tight rubber band around mine.

The Princeton Tec Swerve is way better than the Planet Bike super flash, IMO

Light is brighter, mount is better, and I like the switch because you can reach back and feel if the light is on....

Tape the lens dumbass. You want me to draw a picture?

hey rbi... the tape will obstruct the light and i'm not going to pay $25 for a light that needs to be taped because it's of poor quality; i'd rather just get a different light.

I would be interested in seeing how bright this light is. It has two 1/2 watt bulbs, which sounds awesome, but it seems to suffer from the same problem as the Superflash, the lens comes off.

There's only two reviews on this light at mtbr.com, and one of them saids in part,

The case - after changing the batteries for the first time it become too easy to open. This way, it's very easy to loose the light. Mounting system - I snaped the smaller rubber ring on first attempt to mount the light. I used the bigger one, witch made the light hard to keep in horizontal position. I now broke the bigger ring. This makes me think that the whole mounting system is crap.
