The Watts Towers or Towers of Simon Rodia in the Watts district of Los Angeles, California, is a collection of 17 interconnected structures, two of which reach heights of over 99 feet (30 m). The Towers were built by Italian immigrant construction worker Sabato ("Sam" or "Simon") Rodia in his spare time over a period of 33 years, from 1921 to 1954. The work is a superb example of non-traditional vernacular architecture and American Naïve art. The Towers are located near (and visible from) the 103rd Street-Kenneth Hahn Station of the Metro Rail LACMTA Blue Line.
They were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990.

Oh man, Mingus is my favorite jazz musician of all time, and I know the son-of-a-bitch would come back from the dead to punch me in the mouth if I didn't go to this.

I'm in!

Just got back from printing the spoke cards.
They are worth doing the ride for alone.
But wait! There's more!!
Free jazz music, free art show and the stunning Watts Towers.

I made 30 cards, so don't be late.

How did this ride go? I was hoping I would have some energy to make it to this today, but I was bit drained from the weekend.

Turn out was light, but we had a good afternoon.
Jambalaya and lemonade, good music, art and the Towers.
People watching was cool too. That community really knows how to dress for the occasion!
I know the time of day was a challange, but we had to roll when the music was playing.
We'll do it again next year.

Next time I'm taking my bongos to play in the drum circle.

I left around 3 pm. I noticed that Mr. Rollers and Julian had already left. I had a great time.
