the VOTE ride

I'm thinking of creating a vote ride. The intention is to get as many ridazz as possible out to vote and make the process fun.
The main difficulty is that voting booths are spread out and it would be hard I think to have a ride specifically going to each booth.....
What do y'all think? Can a ride encourage people to vote? How can it be done?

It could be complicated, but maybe we could coordinate small local rides to meet and vote then trickle and over to central meeting point where we roll and meet with other rides..... meh maybe its just a big ass ride that you can only go on if you have an "I voted" sticker.

ya, Juno is putting something together. I think it would be great if there were a few groups in different areas, and if we all converged after the polls closed for drinks & waiting for the results.

im a youngin and i turn 18 november 5th.
but apparently theres some weird exception...like if your birthday is within a week or so you can still vote...anybody know anything about this?
because im downnnnn.

I think it varies from precinct to precinct, but I've seen the ink-a-vote everytime I go for the last few years.

ok good. thanks. I'll re-register then. I usually vote by absentee ballot in the county where i'm registered, but this time I want to physically go to the polling place.
So yeah I'm down for a ride, too.... It would be cool to meet up with a bunch of riders and go vote.

the original plans were to get up early because it is tuesday, have everyone go to their individual polling places and meet up at 9 ride at 10.
and then rally everyone, ride for a whole day, and get everybody to get out there and vote.
i can make a route to cover as many precincts as listed, and post times at each destination so people can join us in the middle of it.

make spoke cards that are big copies of the 'i voted' sticker they give you.... call it the 'i voted' ride, since everyone is locked into voting with in their own district/area its hard to lock down meeting spot.
i'll prob take the day off, since its ma birfday that day too.

Cool idea Roadblock.
But I think we need a training ride before the VOTE RIDE.
THE REGISTER RIDE.
We could find the registrars office and set up a ride there. That way, anyone not currently registered could do it. Because you can't vote if you aren't registered, right? Once that's done, we could go somewhere cool(TBA). Hell we could try to lure random people we see to come with us. Sorta like friends of the friendless, only backwards.
Also, in the spirit of registering and voting and such, I post this.

HA HA HA, The man who doesn't mix politics with his bike riding is organizing the Vote Ride. I guess we can all change are minds. I do remember somebody starting a thread by saying they where going to volunteering for the Obama campaign if he won the primary. I think he changed his mind too.

Hmmmmm I wouldn't call it mixing bike riding with politics so much as I would call it mixing bike riding with civic duty.... or participating in society....
To be fair, I think it would be more of mixing bike riding and politics if I were to espouse a specific political message created a ride to endorse one candidate such as a vote for obama ride.....
Yeah, this is a civic duty kind of ride regardless of peoples politics....

So then there will be mini-rides depending on the area and the stops will consist of/include multiple precincts?

Are you organizing that for the Valley area?
Also, I believe it was mentioned above, but it would be great to have the rides meet up into one big ride after the voting is over.

I think there's a statement to be made here in addition to participating in the democratic process. Anytime a group mobilizes to get voters out, they are in essence saying "our votes and interests count; don't disregard us".
We need something that says something like, "We're cyclists and we vote!".

having regional rides, wont have the numbers we need. not everyone can take the whole day off, so it'll be interesting. but the plan was to have everyone goto their polling places early in the morning. after everyone that wants to get in on the ride, takes care of their ballots, we'll cruise the whole city left and right. with a few pickup and dropoff locations before/after lunch.
the idea is to have a set route, with set stopping points where we can have more people wait for us and regroup with us.
and then we'll take that final group to a big place where we can watch some teevee.
the thing is, there are some 600+ polling places in los angeles, and theres no way we can cover all of them.
but the goal is to get people INTO their polling places. so we just have to cover high foot traffic areas.

i dont know, do you guys think it'll be better to split things up?
i'd say realistically we'll about about 10 riders top in each sub-section of the city. if we all come together, i'm hoping 30.
i also don't plan on asking for the day off, i'm just calling in sick.
