Midnight Ridazz May 11th

what up Ridazz.... I'm personally not going to be available to plan May's 2nd friday ride. there are plenty of organizers out there who might want to take the horns.... anyone got ideas/initiative/bicycle love let it be known on this thread.

"no more movie themes for this year."???
Are you going to let the ridazz organize this thing, or what? Do I have a witness?!
seriously, though... themes are easy.
what we need are ideas for rides! new and interesting routes. Not just routes, but cool stops and ending points. Games have proven to be fun for the vets. Less complicated and easier rides for the newbies. Midnight RIdazz IS the premier night bike ride in LA, if not the world. So we should always consider that there will be tourists on the rides. We already have the small drunk rides (Sins*Sprockets, Cruzz with Us, etc). We have the hardcore go-as-fast-as-you-can rides (Wolfpack, Badger Song, Cubpack, etc). We have tons of rides all month, with Club & Gang rides, RideArc, Critical Mass, etc. Plus all the Alleycat & Messenger Races... rides for days...
Let's think outside the box. Don't listen to Roadblock (jk, not really) because he isn't going to be on the ride anyway.
Ideas! ideas!? Anyone?

Ride Ideas!!! God Damn It!
Themes are easy, and Roadblock is going to pick the theme regardless of what you want it to be. But, armed with the knowledge that he can't organize it, we should come up with ride IDEAS! as in where to go, what to do, who to blow, what to eat, where to piss, and what-not.

How about:
THE PHOTO OP RIDE
We roll though spots that work well for photo and video eithier because of lighting, vantage point, background, or fantastic spectacle.
Photographers and Videographers will help design the ride.
Anybody with a camera gets a special routslip that has shortcuts so that the shooters can get ahead of the ride and into position.
This ride will happen eventually and I would love for it to be a Ridazz ride.. If there is interest in doing this for the next 2nd friday ride, I'll commit to coordinating with photographers and help design and test the route.
trickmilla04.17.07 - 3:43 pm
reply
That's cool Trick.
How does the idea work for ALL of the Ridazz? What if we incorporate the Photo Op Idea for those shotting and those who aren't can bring to it the Spectacle? Unless you are just hoping the spectacle be a generic bike ride. I mean, what if Ridazz were encouraged to let their freak flag fly and also prepareit in areas for the best Photo Op conditions?
What do you say?
Joe Borfo04.17.07 - 3:55 pm

How about an East L.A. route that goes from Union Station east to LA Community College and back?
I'm sure you've got plenty of ideas for a Mexican or Chicano theme.
thinkpeace04.17.07 - 4:19 pm
reply
so far, in my opinion, the best rides proposed are:
the DADA ride -my personal favorite
the Tourist ride
the Photo Op ride- could incorporate the tourist ride (most of the tourist spots are great photo ops)
the Chicano/a ride
these are all great ideas, and should probably be done at some time or another, but hey we have an assload of rides ahead of us in the future, so they should end up happening anyway.
and I think what trickmilla was saying for the photo op ride is that those with cameras get an abbreviated route so they can get from point to point faster so they can set up their gear and/or lighting or whatever.
for that route, as awesome as it is, I would suggest avoiding the building downtown, the 100 building I think it is, the security there nearly shat bricks (they were getting on the phone to call the cops) when we stopped in there on the last LACM to take the group picture... and there was maybe what 40 of us?

Good points borfo ...
i don't think the Ridazz need more than a gental nudging to get freaky and create spectacle.
My main inspirations are:
a) Its a pain in the ass to get good shots when you are trying to keep up with the ride.
b) I'm guessing that the mass media will catch on to MR any day now and before they do, it would be great to create some situations where we can represent ourselves with epic, graphic, and iconic images that really show what we do beyond the typical on-the-fly ride shots and the hanging out at 7-11 shots.
Of course that will include some ridazz hamming it up for the camera and acting like freaks

Hey, just to let you know we have been doing a 3 race series and will be having our final event on May 11th which will be a relay race with teams on an undecided amount of riders. It would be awsome to show some love to your L.A. courriers and riders alike and try and coordinate something with riders this night. In addition we are going to have an afterparty for this race as well. The flyer is above for race #2 which will be held on April 27th. Also check these links below to future races and bike events!

I really appreciate Midnight Ridazz getting invited to the race. I'm thinking we should make the May 11th ride centered on the race. It will introduce some new RIdazz to the messenger community and the races. If nothing else, it will unify the bicycle community in general. Imagine the amount of bicycle spectators lining the streets, in support of the race. Then after the race, we ALL saddle up, ride loops around downtown, and all end up at the afterparty. I think it'd be awesome.
that is just an idea.

I'm not proposing this for the 11th, but one of these days I want to put on:
The CUSS LIKE A LONGSHOREMAN RIDE.
This would be my small way of paying back all the LA/Hollywood/Valley/Highland Park/Whatever riders for showing me their neighborhoods on all the rides I've attended. The ride would start in Long Beach and take everybody on a tour of the parts of the huge Los Angeles/Long Beach mega-port complex that are accessible to bicycles (i.e., through Wilmington and my home town of San PEEEdro). Expect lots of giant hissing refinery steampipes, eerily quiet piers and docks, ginormous containerships, unused warehouses, active warehouses, tractor-trailer trucks, railroad tracks, actual trains, fishing boats, fishing nets, and people on bicycles (that's you).
The ride would start kind of early and end up back in Long Beach in time for people to catch the last Blue Line back to LA. This is to encourage people to come down here for the ride without having to drive. Ridazz would be encouraged to dress like longshoremen (traditional or modern), sailors, pirates, or fishermen, or just cuss a lot. Anybody interested? Hmm?

Well, this won't really be a Long Beach ride; I'm just starting and ending it in LB so that people from LA who don't want to ride or drive can take the Blue Line there and back. This will be a straight up waterfront ride, all harbor all the time.
Anyway, I agree with the good reverend Borfo that the May 11th ride should be downtown so that people can crash the street race. The CUSS LIKE A LONGSHOREMAN RIDE will be on some other date.
But if you're wondering what the ride in Long Beach is like, please note that an "I <3 Long Beach" ride has been posted for tonight (Wednesday the 18th). I have no idea who's running it, but it's a bike ride, with bikes and riding.

Am I the only Pastafarian?
The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) Missouri State University Chapter is having their Noodlefest 2007 on May 9th, 2007! Now, most ridazz won't be able to observe our Holy Noodleness fest on a Wednesday night--however I'm sure His Noodleness will bless us if we do a Friday night ride. Such as May 11th.....
Now if you have no idea what I'm talking about--I suggest you go to venganza.org and read up.
I suggest the ride would consist of the following:
1.) Dressing up like his Noodleness. Although pasta shouldn't be used unless you plan on eatting it or sharing with others. I would suggest fun-do-noodles...you know, those things you use in the pool.
2.) Spreading the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (although do not disobey his Noodly Goodness eight 'I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts' like acting like a sanctimonious holier-than-thou ass.
3.) Dressing up like pirates to fight global warming.
And that's all I have at the moment.
Let me know what you think. Peace and noodles.

Reach out ride,
One of our very own, Richtotheie, is doing the AIDS ride in June. Why don't we just say fuck the costumes and everybody kick down $5 or whatever they can afford and send one of our own to participate. This would be a great chance to "expose ourselves" to the larger community. I think we could drum up interest from people who would't normally join us.
From About Us:
What Midnight Ridazz is:
-Fun
-Friendships
-Non Confrontational
-Family
-Compassionate
-Open - Minded
-Multi-cultural
I think that would just about hit the nail on the head. It's not really hip or iroinc, though I'd like to see us break our record for biggest ride. we could meet by the fountain by Griffith Park and just blast through there, much less traffic for the newbs to deal with and people get lost, they just head downhill until they find Los Feliz blvd.
To participate in the Aids ride you must raise $2500; I bet we could hit that in one nigjht if we told enough people. Maybe have 4 mini-rides and charge $1 each for spoke cards. Most of us could afford a couple bucks. We would need to have a cool route, though...

Samhain ... I appreciate the spirit and i think its a good idea ... but if we were to use a MR ride to rase funds why not direct the money to one of our own in need?
In the past few months we have seen several of our own ridazz face medical, legal, and bike repair expenses from run ins with cars, the law, or just plain 'ol cycling accidents.
I think it is a terrific idea to do a fundraiser to send 1 or more ridazz to rep us on the Aids ride.
However, in my humble opinion I think that if an OFFICIAL MR ride was to be used to raise money that money should use to directly help out one of or more of our own suffering from a bike related financial, medical, or legal crisis.
