The Gypsies are coming to Los Angeles, and they're gonna have a party.
Saturday, April 8th
Gather at 7 PM
Roll at 8 PM
I'll be towing music behind my bike and will roll into various locations between Pasadena and Downtown to have impromtu parties, complete with dancing and costumes.
Bring a bike, gypsy attire, drinks, snacks, face paint, drums and/or other gypsy party paraphernalia.
The locations will not be announced ahead of time, but may include strip mall parking lots, parks, plazas, alleys and metro stations. Your welcome to post your location ideas or email them to me. They should be roughly between Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles.
We'll meet at the Von's parking lot, close to California Blvd
155 W California Blvd
Pasdena, CA 91105

This sounds like fun. It will only be that much more of a good time depending upon how much people get involved with the theme.
Since we have a couple of weeks, I hope everybody takes the time to put something together and not come in their everyday clothes.

Here's some ideas for activities at the Gypsy Caravan Dance Party.
Clothes Grab Bag
Bring one or more interesting or silly articles of clothing to put in the clothes grab bag. Then the bag is passed around, and everyone takes out an article of clothing from the bag without looking, and wears the choosen article(s). The bag is passed around until it is empty.
GypsyRidazz Fire Dance
Once dancer tucks a paper napkin into her/his back pocket or waistband leaving a short tail hanging out. A second dancer will follow behind with a lit candle/match/lighter trying to set the tail on fire. The first dancer must move his or her hips vigorously to prevent the paper tail from catching fire.
GypsyRidazz Challenge
A prize will be given to the winner of this to-be-announced challenge. Strong legs and any sense of rythm will help you win.
Drum Circle
Bring a drum, tamborine or other noise maker.

Don't forget to plan your costume for the Gypsy Caravan ahead of time. The event is April 7th, 7:00 PM.
I've added costume ideas and pictures to the event page.

Post your costume, activity or stopping location ideas.
The route will be going from Pasadena through South Pasadena, Highland Park and Chinatown to downtown.
If you arrive late, we'll leave some route slips at the south edge of the parking lot - directly south of the Vons main entrance. Catching up should be no problem as we will be stopping along the way.

I shortened the route a bit so we have more time to party.

There will be 3 stops along the way (5 counting the start and end locations) - one in South Pasadena, one in Highland Park, and one along Main St. If we get chased out of any of the stops, we'll continue to an alternate stop.

about evenly between and just east of the fillmore and del mar stations although fillmore is probably half a block closer.

the closest stop is the Sierra Madre Villa. it's either off of Sierra Madre Blvd. or Madre. That is where i told people to get off for my ride (the pill ride) which met up in the same location.

one thing we can always count on at this fourm, is Joe Borfos words of fluff. Saying something, but saying nothing all at the same time

t.bone, you're thinking of a different Vons. Sierra Madre Villa is 5 stops too far.
Get off at Filmore, go west, Right on Fair Oaks, Left on California. If you miss Filmore, the Del Mar stop is close enough as well (go s, rt on Del Mar, lft on Fair Oaks, rt on California)

it;s not usually this bad. After we got kicked out of the secluded parking lot we found, I went and sat at the bus stop, as I sat there, I realized i was seeing a boatload of cops around, I wonder what was up, or if it was something to do with the holiday weekend?
but still, public spaces shouldn't close.

There was a march in Downtown yesterday to protest President Bush's immigration plan. The cops may have been leftover from that.

I know we had the sheriff deputy who came to the goldline chinatown stop. The sheriffs got the contract for the gold line security. He didn't have metro stickers on his car, but they could of just called out a local car, when they saw us on security cameras.
It was private security that was all over. Friday night, a few of us where hanging on 12th and broadway. The private security kept on checking on us, and stop to say hi. LAPD rolled by, looked, but didn't stop.
Last night was mostly private security also. We where in a different part of downtown Sat, the Fri. I stopped over at a "all night" Chinese resturant, to let my girl use the restroom and private security stopped, I talked with them, they asked where the rest of the crew was, I said that everybody went home. The one dude said they where checking to make sure nobody was writing on the walls. I really think that the increase of real estate price in downtown, with the "clean up downtown"(genterfication) program, is why there was so much security to not let people hang out (lotier) in public spaces.
Any extra cops for protest, are usually sent back to where they came from, after the event is over. I don't think it had anything to do with that.

Sexy, I was talking about the early hours, after you left.
I was sitting at the bus stop for an hour waiting for my bus, form there I can see all of the roads that cross over the 101 in downtown, there was a cop crossing each one almost every 30 seconds, whereas usually I don't see a single one for however long I am there.
I think maybe they were out to catch DUI's or something what with the holiday and all, whatever it was, there was a much higher police presence than normal.

Thank you to everyone that helped make this a great event: co-organizer pipi, big dan and eddie who brought sound system trailers, and all of you that came in costumes, the dozens of people that danced, and everyone who showed up.
I hope someone will post pictures from this event - there were a number of people taking pictures and I'd love to see those great costumes again.
If anyone is interested in helping at a similar event in the future, let me know eric (a t) einem.us. We could use more volunteers to coordinate some of the activities along the way.
